I like the band - grew up to them and their kind of music. I can understand if they got upset about a fanfic that had them sleeping around with each other, raping, murdering, or doing drugs and such, but I'll never know what it was about so I can't say much about their judgment. It couldn't have been too ranchy, though, because the sight deletes at least the sexually extreme material anyway. Regardless, there are always going to be fanfics that the real-life people aren't going to like. I don't know why they singled this one out. I'm sure there are more on other sights, or even this one somewhere better hidden. They didn’t even clarify what was wrong with it. They just bullied you until you had no choice but to comply. And besides, it was obviously a fanfic and nothing else. I don't even have to know what it said to be sure of that.
I'm more focused on the people who contacted you about it. On one hand, I believe Skillet had a right to complain (provided the RP held an immoral air and possibly dragged their name and reputation through the mud). However, I believe shutting down the entire website as a sort of pre-punishment warning was crossing the line. I'm in no way educated in this area, but I do know that it can't have been a big enough deal to cause all this ruckus and even threaten to shut you down. I think they've become too overbearing in this area lately. There are a lot of people - myself included - who use this site for legitimately original stories as well. If they took it down, everything would be lost for everyone. Maybe they should Google ES in regards to that. LOL! Did you catch that sarcasm up there in that guy’s reply, by the way? I did. Passive aggression... uncalled for.
Anyway, they need to stop picking on the little guys! Typical of the rich and government-affiliated: create their own loop-holes so the little guys can be equally ignored and interfered with. Why don’t they do something about the bigger sites? Why don’t they attack fanfiction.net? (Not that I have anything against them.)
Opinions aside, it looks like the problem is taken care of. They might have sneaked up an punched you in the gut, but you’re still standing. And we're all glad you could take it.

PS) As a side suggestion in regards to user misuzu's last post below, would it be possible to create a simple link for the users to click that would add a needed fill-in-the-blank disclaimer or somesuch to the fanfic RPs created? Perhaps another (open parenthesis/type "disclaimer"/comma/type "Title and media"/comma/etc./close parenthesis). It would be easy to use, so people would have no excuse and no problems. (Also, many pleople don't know all the information needed in a disclaimer.) When posted, it could display the full disclaimer in the "Thread Description" - or wherever the writer puts it. If a problem like this happened again, it would be easy to add afterward (if they allow that). Not everyone would use it, but then it would be their fault if there is a problem with their thread and it needs to be deleted because of their negligence to follow copyright laws that they signed up for when signing up to the website. Even though there are disclaimers everywhere on the website itself (including the searching page, which they probably had to visit in order to find the RP), maybe there needs to be another user-created disclaimer.

Never did like these sorts of situations, they're usually caused by whiny little ninnies that love money and hate others, but I've met these guys, Skillet, and I wouldn't have thought them to get so angry at a bunch of kids like this, though I never said they wouldn't. Just goes to show that not all our favorite celebrities are as great as we think they are, they can't even leave a few kids to have a little fun with the things they leave out in the open and never breath a word that they don't want it touched. Well, they lose the respect of many fans, might we find a new band that isn't so touchy and then their profits will fall, their ninnyness might go down a bit as well.

What these people are saying is BOGUS..The parody law states tat "When producing parodies it is acceptable under US law to use bits of the original show to enhance the comedic nature of your new creation. This includes music and other identifying elements. It does not violate copyright law, as long as it doesn't damage or harm the reputation of the original or try to pose as the original."

Are we going to have to start doing things as they are done on youtube? If something such as a name or a rp idea based on a book, movie, anime ect is used are we going to have to put "This is a pardoy based off of ______ book. I do not own ________ and all names and ideas are credited to the author ___________" that way we dont have any problems with it.

I suggest they should now be referred to as 'the band who shall not be named'...but then I make a lot of silly suggestions.

Seriously though, it's so stupid that they even...bothered, as has been said before it's hardly like ES can be held responsible.

Well actually Hazel, I can see some logic behind Jimmy's trollishness. Posting pictures/fanfics/writings about Skillet should be 'ES illegal' for a little bit, so that he doesn't get them any more riled up.

I'm laughing my ass off at the ones that believed it's a bannable offense and that the Skillet band members had anything to do with this. xD

The claim itself shouldn't have been valid since the material on the site is taken as parody, and the images themselves aren't hosted on ES itself.

On a further note, was it actually the band who filed the claim, or someone acting on their behalf/being anal about copyright? I mean, I like some of their music, I don't know much about the members themselves or anything, but basically, this would mean using images of any copyrighted celebrities or even characters would cause a violation. And there's plenty of sites that do use those kinds of images and have had no issues put into light about it like this.
