By day, he is the most handsome young man in all of the small village. But by night, he is cursed to have the most hideous, gruesome face, and destined to be the "monster" of the village.
By day, he is a respectable young man, engaged to marry a beautiful and pure girl. The night before the wedding, the night of the wedding feasts of the village, his cursed face is revealed to all.
The villagers begin to hunt him down, swearing to kill the monster that has plagued them for so long. In shame, he kidnaps his love, and runs away with her deep into the forest, where he shall force her to love him again.
At least...that was the plan, until they ran into the Gypsies.
Mystified at the curse over him, the Gypsies capture the two of them, and create a circus show titled "The Devil's Wife", putting the two of them on display, and will beat the girl whenever "The devil" does not cooperate.
Becoming enraged and violent, to protect his love, what will he stop at to save them? And, what will he do to win her love, even though he is a monster?
Violence and language is a must.

Warm lips woke Lianna's sleeping soul. Her eyes fluttered open softly, and she gave a small tired groan. But as she felt his lips against hers, her eyes shot open, and she sat up straight, staring at him in shock.
In that moment, she realized that they had not kissed....since their first performance on stage. She was forced to kiss him....but as they stood in each other's embrace, it had become real....
Lianna's finger tips touched her lips and she blushed. Why is it so odd....He is..was...is? Your fiance'.....Is that what he still is? I suppose we just haven't been...intimate...since I found out about the curse....
Lianna gave him a tiny apologetic smile for being shocked. She was about to speak when she felt the tiny girl at her side begin to stir. She reached down and grabbed the girl, snuggling her to her chest. "Good morning beautiful..." she murmured to the child. Glancing up at Dimitri, she smiled elatedly. Good morning handsome... she mouthed to him, and resumed helping the child wake up.
"Alright...what's the plan?" she asked, her expression finally turning serious.
Dimitri turned his head slightly to watch Lianna and listen to the words she spoke in a low voice. He smiled at her choice of words to describe him. She was right, he would protect both Lianna and Adrianna from whatever troubles they faced ahead. He still didn't move when Lianna carried Adrianna towards him and settled down in front of him, making sure Adrianna was comfortable before laying her head against his shoulder. "Good night." He whispered softly, bending his head to kiss Lianna's cool cheek and Adrianna's warm head. Moving slowly to not wake them up, he grabbed a wool blanket resting on the ground beside them and draped it over them, making sure both girls where safely tucked inside it.
Dimitri awoke slowly, blinking several times to clear his blurry vision. He had only allowed himself a few short naps. He slept just long enough to keep himself alert and ready to move if a threat should appear. They had been lucky and yawning, he slowly sat up. Sometime in the early morning he had leaned against the tree trunk and the bark from the tree pulled at the wounds on his back. Flinching at the pain, he sat up fully and ran a hand through his tousled hair. Both Lianna and Adrianna were sleeping peacefully and he hated to wake them up. But they needed to keep moving. Bending his head slightly, he gently pressed his mouth against Lianna's, attempting to wake her. "Good morning sunshine." He whispered against her mouth.
Lianna clutched at the little girl as if her life depended on it. She held her so tightly in her arms, and her face was buried in her hair. Her tears turned warm, and she smiled in joy a little.
Bending down she kissed the girl on her nose. "We'll...learn together. I can tell you stories...sing lullabies... I can cook. I can take care of pets... I can clean. I can sew pretty dresses... Whatever your heart desires darling."
Lianna glanced up at Dimitri and smiled. Bending down to Adrianna's ear, she winked and pretended to whisper.
"You see him? He's hopeless! He can't even cook or clean! That's my job I suppose...But...he's a hunter...lover....fighter...protector... We'll be safe as long as we stay by his side. We're lucky you know...Lucky that he chose to love us. I can tell you...we are the safest girls in this entire world, as long as he's around..."
By then, Lianna had stood, lifted the girl who was about to fall asleep, and walked over towards Dimitri. Lianna positioned herself carefully in his arms, and Adrianna in between them. Resting her head on his shoulder, she found herself sleeping at last.
<You can time skip I suppose>
Dimitri watched silently as Adrianna wrapped her arms around Lianna’s neck and hugged her tightly, despite the cold wet dress that Lianna wore. “You be my ma now.” Dimitri smiled bent down beside the two girls, rubbing Adrianna’s back as he lightly kissed Lianna’s cheek. “That’s a yes if I ever saw one.” Smiling, he stood and took a few steps back from the glow of the lantern. Sitting down on the hard ground, he began slowly pulling the wet clothing from his arms, revealing the deep wounds caused by the whip.
The wounds would take some time to heal and he knew they would forever leave scars, both mentally and physically. Glancing up from his arm, he watched Lianna interact with the young child. She would make a great mother. He had always known she would be one day. Frowning slightly, he studied the wounds and scratches on Lianna’s skin that were illuminated by the glow of the lantern. It would take her some time to recover from her wounds as well.
Returning his gaze back to the wounds, he allowed himself a few moments to relax and gather his strength. He resisted the urge to lean back against the tree trunk he sat in front of. The deep lash wounds would protest even more if they came into contact with wood. Watching both Lianna and little Adrianna, Marcus knew they would have a rough road ahead of them in the coming months. The only way they could stay safe would be to travel to the largest city that was the closest. He didn’t even know for sure where they were. “First order of business in the morning…” He thought with a tired smile.
<sorry for the sudden disappearance. Had to take care of a few things>
Lianna winced in sheer terror. She hadn't even thought of the possibility of there being a child. How could she have, she didn't even know if she had been raped or not!
No...I don't want a baby...not his baby....And not now...not while we're running for our lives...what a horrible world to bring an innocent life into....And could I honestly hold a child....and not think about who the child's father is...was?
Lianna allowed his words to soothe her troubled soul for the time being. Her tears rolled silently down her face, and her sobs subsided. She still trembled from the cold, and was grateful at Dimitri gave her some warmth.
After a long time, she met his eyes. "I love you too Dimitri...I'm sorry...I'm so sorry..." she whispered. She cried in his arms then. She cried for the life that she and Dimitri should have had. She cried for the family and friends she would never see again. She cried for the pain they endured at the camp. She cried for Adrianna. She cried for the possible unborn child that may be growing in her. And she cried for Dimitri. And she cried for herself.
After staying in his embrace for a long time she finally managed to sit up, still shaking. "Adrianna....take me to her. I want her. I want our daughter." she murmured, climbing into Dimitri's arms as she was too weak to walk.
As Dimitri set her down, Lianna ran forward, and fell to her knees next to Adrianna. She pulled the girl into her arms and held her tightly to her chest, pressing her face into her hair. "Adrianna...I....I may not know much...I may not be good at it...but....I want to be your mother....If you'd allow me to try." she whispered to the girl, and glanced behind her at Dimitri with a look of fear, wondering if the girl would reject her.
The relief he felt was enormous as Lianna finally coughed up what seemed to be the entire contents of the river she had just jumped into. His angry scowl quickly disappeared at the words Lianna screamed at him. “Lianna, honey I couldn’t let you die. You mean everything to me.” He knew she wouldn’t listen to him. After studying her still form, he did the only thing he could do at the moment. Digging out the piece of paper that he assumed was what she had mentioned.
Bringing it close to his face, he quickly read her written words. Even after he had finished reading the note, he studied the words for several minutes before grasping the sides of the paper and tearing it into two pieces. Throwing them over his shoulder, he moved closer to Lianna and wrapped his arms around her, wrapping her shivering body against his own. His own body was cold, but least he could lend her some of his body heat. “Lianna…” He began in a low, comforting voice. “I don’t care that there is the possibility of your innocence no longer intact. There could be a child growing inside you within the coming months. I don’t care. I’m simply content to know that you are alive and mine. You belong to me in both heart and soul. No one can take that away.”
Marcus gently rested his cheek against her hair, inhaling her scent that made her so unique, his Lianna. “I belong to you in the same way. I love you Lianna. Please don’t think yourself unworthy of me.” Shifting sideways, he moved so that he could meet her eyes. “Not only do I need you Lianna, but Adrianna does as well. We have a daughter now.” He gave her a smile, his eyes warm.
I'm cold....Mommy....? Daddy...? Dimitri...? I'm cold...I'm so cold....And it's dark...and wet...I'm scared of the dark...I don't like the cold....I'm alone...I'm lonely...I don't like being alone...I can't breathe...There's no air....No sun....nothing....Just the dark....I'm cold....
Lianna's eyes flashed open and before she could stop herself, she screamed. It took her a few moments to adjust to the fact that she was laying on the ground. She was violently coughing, and her lungs were desperately sucking in air. Her breathing was heavy and faint, and her heart was struggling to stay alive.
"Hell.." she whispered after she coughed again. Her eyes began to shut again, but they opened once more, and she finally saw her surroundings. "I didn't die..why not...I...?" Her eyes finally found Dimitri who looked very angry at her.
She gasped for a second before she began to cry. "DAMN. Didn't you read the note...? Dimitri I CAN'T be here anymore...I'm not supposed to be here...I'm supposed to be dead....Why did you have to pull me out....Why...did I have to be born."
Lianna's body trembled in pain and shame as she cried. Trying to move away from Dimitri's arms, she found herself curling her arms around her as a protective shield. She curled herself into a tiny, quivering ball.
"Read the note."
Adrianna had awoken when Dimitri began to clean the thin wound on her face. She whimpered lightly. “It’s alright little one. I’m cleaning your wounds so they don’t get infected.” He gave her a warm smile, reaching out to touch her face with the cool, wet cloth. Suddenly, the girl jumped up and wrapped her thin arms around his neck. “Hey now…” He smiled and patted her hair. “Your safe now.” Dimitri heard the sound of soft footsteps and turned. He gave Lianna a warm smile, hoping she would join them. His smile frowned as he studied he dark face and dull eyes. Something was wrong, he could feel it.
“Lianna…?” He asked, his voice low. He shook his head at her words, but she had already turned and quickly walked away. Sensing her pain, Dimitri reached up and gently pulled Adrianna’s hands away from his neck. “I’m going to make sure Lianna is ok. You wait here and I’ll bring her back. Maybe she can tell you a story?” Adrianna nodded her head, reaching up to rub her tired eyes. Smiling, Dimtiri kissed her forehead and stood up, quickly running towards the part of the forest that Lianna had disappeared into.
“Lianna!” He called out, not caring if someone heard him. He was concerned about Lianna. She looked as if she was about to attempt something that would danger her life. He hadn’t spent many years with her and not learn everything there was to know about her. He picked up his pace, now running, Calling Lianna’s name once more. He didn’t notice the tree stump until it was too late and tripped over it, landing hard on his stomach. “Ohmp..” Dimitri grunted as he staggered onto his feet. Noticing a piece of paper, he picked it up and continued running. He could hear the sound of running water now.
Finally! He spotted her, standing on the edge of what appeared to be a cliff. The icy cold water below. “Lianna! No!” He hadn’t made it in time. Lianna had jumped into the freezing cold water. He couldn’t stop her from jumping, but he would keep her alive. With a shout, fear making him move, he didn’t even hesitate, jumping in after her. “Lianna! Hold on!” The current was strong and he was easily pulled underneath the water. Breaking the surface, he gasped for breath, swimming with the current. He had to get to Lianna.
With a shout, he reached out and grabbed her arm, pulling her cold body against his own. “Don’t you ever do that again! I can’t live without you Lianna!” Only then did he realize that she was unconscious, the cold water taking away any body warmth that she had. Noticing a fallen tree, he grabbed one of the branches and pulled himself and Lianna out of the water, slowly, he pulled himself onto the ground. Gasping, he pulled Lianna onto the bank and pressing on her chest, tried to expel the water from her lungs. “Don’t die on me Lianna! Adrianna needs you..I need you!” Bending down, he kissed her blue lips, forcing oxygen into her lungs. “Breathe damn it!”
Lianna couldn't look at Dimitri. She couldn't. She knew if she did, he would easily see through her and what she was about to do. So she stayed silent as he embraced her, spoke to her, and attempted to help her wounds.
Though her mouth did twitch as if she was going to smile when he mentioned the child. But for the rest, her face was blank, and her eyes were already dead...the sparkle gone.
As he was tending to Adrianna, Lianna stood up blankly. "I think there's a stream near by...I'm going to go wash up." she announced with out emotion, and her face was dark. She stared at the two of them a long time before turning and walking away, deeper into these woods.
Once she was away from the two of them, she reached inside of her pocket and pulled out a piece of paper and a pencil, and began to write. Once the note was written, she dropped it on the ground and continued walking.
Adrianna...I'm so sorry about all you've had to go through in your short life. But...Dimitri will take care of you now. He'll pour all of his love out on you, and he'll never let you starve or get hurt. Make sure to take care of him, too......Dimitri...I'm so sorry....This is all my fault.....We've known each other since I was a baby....I should have known about your curse...I should have protected you...But I didn't know...I've failed you. And now...I may not even be pure anymore. Now I have truly betrayed and failed you....I cannot breathe this air anymore...I don't deserve it....I deserve the same fate as Caron... I deserve worse. Dimitri...stay safe. Take care of Adrianna. Keep running...Keep moving...Without me. You don't need me....You never did. You're strong enough on your own...Unlike me. I'm sorry for how I acted when I first found out of the curse....it just shows you what a worthless being I am. I don't deserve to love you...yet I do with all my heart and soul. Don't come looking for me...I won't be on this world for much longer. Forget...that I was ever born.
To Lianna's surprise, she actually did come to a body of water. It was a large river filled with rushing water. She knew the rapid flow of the water would drown her the second she set foot into it.
Standing on the edge, she began to cry. Her body shook with fear, and her tears fell into the river. "I'm...s-sorry....so...sorry..." she sobbed softly. Glancing down at her reflection in the water briefly, she closed her eyes and jumped.
