"Just tell her man, it's going to be a difficult thing to understand and accept anyways." Ashtyn said, sticking his hand out for the cat to sniff cautiously.
Conor sighs and runs a hand through his shaggy hair. "Please let me finish telling you everything and then I will answer any questions that you have." he says.
"I have reason to believe that you are a member of the Garde. Nine of us, along with our guardians, or Cepans, were sent to Earth after our planet, Lorien, was attacked by the Mogs. We are the last remaining survivors of our planet. Unfortunately, the Mogs followed us here. Numbers One, Two and Three have been killed in the hunt. Number Four I'm assuming is the young man I've seen on tv for the past few weeks that has caused quite a stir in some small town." he pauses and waits to see her reaction to everything so far.
"I am Number Nine and our friend here is Number Eight. We all have special legacies, or powers, to do things that should be impossible. From what I saw in that field, you appear to have legacies of your own. The only problem is that without your memory, it's difficult to convince you of this." his eyes stray to the necklace around her neck.
"May I see that?" he asks, pointing to it.
It had been drawing his attention as he was feeling familiar with it. Flashes quickly pass through his head in which he remembers a smaller girl wearing it as they were being hurried away from their families.
Ariadne had slowed down and allowed them to pass her up so that she could set Slick down. "Alright, Slick, this hotel doesn't allow pets so you have to be extra sneaky so that we don't get kicked out." She scratched behind the black cat's ear and smiled at him. "See you soon." She stood back up and raced to catch up with the other two. She waited while Conor got the key to the room then followed him and Ashtyn to the second floor then to their room.
She stopped Conor before he could lock the door and allowed Slick to slip in before her got locked out. She was happy that he was able to sneak in without getting caught and picked him up. She kissed his forehead, "Good job." She walked over to the free bed and set the cat down on it then turned her attention to Conor. "I'll be the judge of that." She said, outloud. But with everything that was happening, she couldn't really tell what was real and what was fake now. What was the truth and what was a lie.
Conor leaves them standing in the lobby while he walks up to the desk to get their room. He hands over cash for the night and grabs the room key as its slid across the counter to him. "Thank you." he says to the woman behind the desk.
He motions for them to follow him, leading them up to the second floor. He stops at their door and opens it, letting them enter first. He closes the door behind them and locks it, adding the chain as well. He hurriedly closes the curtains as Ashtyn flops down on one of the beds. "Feels so good to sleep on an actual matress." he sighs, burying his face in to a pillow.
"I'm happy for you." Conor says dryly, grabbing a pillow from the other side and tossing it on the chair in the corner of the room.
As Ashtyn reaches for the remote to turn on the tv, Conor grabs it from him with a blank stare. "You expect me to explain everything to her while you're catching up on whatever reality show you're currently obsessed with?" he asks.
Ashtyn shrugs. "Whatever dude." he slumps back on the bed.
Conor motions for Ariadne to sit down on the other free bed. He sits on the low dresser across from her, unsure of how to start. "Before I say anything, I want you to know that I'm telling the truth. We're not crazy."
Ariadne listened to Ashtyn as he tried to explain what a guardian was but he never got to finish because Conor had pushed him. She looked at Conor, wishing someone would tell her what was going on already, instead of avoiding it till later. She didn't want to wait till later but had no choice. "As soon as we get a hotel room, you will tell me." She left no room for question as she started to walk ahead.
They were in a downtown area and had to pass a series of stores to get to the hotel. Her eyes wondered to the windows, at all of the clothes that were on display. She then looked down at the jogging suit that she had to constently wear, every day. "Must be nice to dress like an actual girl." She muttered to Slick as she glued her eyes on the hotel ahead so that she wouldn't get distracted. She really wanted to dress like an actual girl but didn't have the money and probably wouldn't dress like one for a while. Or have money for a while.
"A Cepan is a gua-" Ashtyn is cut off by Conor giving him a shove.
"I promise I will explain everything when we get to a secure location. I can't risk informing you out in the open because it may be dangerous." he tells her.
He listens to her explanation about her time at the lab and he frowns. "I guess I can't say I'm surprised. People like that are well known for keeping the truth from their victims." he sighs.
Now we have basically nothing to go off of he thinks to himself.
They walk in silence for a little while with Conor trying to think of a way to explain everything to her. When they come to the edge of the woods, he can see the lights of a small town nearby. "Alright, I think we can get a hotel room there somewhere. Once we're inside, I'll tell you everything that I know." he looks at her.
Ariandne looks at Ashtyn, confused. "Cepan? What is a Cepan?" She asks, now looking at Conor. The word seemed so familiar but she couldn't place it. She then shook her head. "They really didn't have much to say as they were sticking me with needles and things of that sort." She said, anger filling her voice.
Those people could have tooken her from her bed and brought her there, she couldn't remember though. She hated them, she hated them all. She was glaring at the floor, watching where she stepped before looking at Conor for a spilt second. She wanted to know, she really did. But was it worth it? Her freedom was so close. She could spare a few more minutes to hear what he had to say. "I'll listen. I want to know everything."
"Ask her where her Cepan is, they might be able to help." Ashtyn calls to them, stumbling over a tree root.
Conor turns around and glares at him. "Keep quiet or we'll be heard. And now is not the time for that. We can discuss it later." his voice leaves no room for argument.
He turns back to Ariadne with a slightly confused expression. "They never told you where they found you or if you were found with anything?" he presses, wanting to see how much she knows before he fills her in on things.
He steps over a fallen tree branch, smirking slightly when he hears Ashtyn trip on that as well. "You know, I would have thought you'd be a little more sturdy on your feet." he taunts, earning a stick being thrown at him.
"I don't mean to frighten you or worry you. I just want to know if you will listen to what I have to say when we get to a hotel room. It's of the utmost importance that I speak with you about this." he says to her, looking to see if she hesitates.
Ariadne stayed still and quiet as the Germans passed. She didn't want to draw any attention to them and end up getting them all caught. She let out a relieved sigh when they all passed by without noticing the three at all. She looked at Conor as he motioned for them to follow him and did so. She held onto Slick, tightly but not to tight as to harm him.
She looked over at Conor as he asked her a question. She bite her bottom lip and tried to think. "I don't know. I actually have no memory of anything at all." She pushed her bangs out of the way to reveal a scar on her forehead. "I had hit my head and was knocked out. I woke up in the lab, not knowing who I was or how I had gotten there."
She really wished she could remember everything but it was no use. She tried to think of how she had gotten there, how she had hit her head. But all it did was bring her a huge headache. Whenever she tried to remember something but couldn't, she got a headache. Whenever she didn't try and did, she got a major nosebleed.
