Aurora smiled the moment she heard Jay's voice and it didn't take Harrison long to climb over her and straight into Jay's arms which warmed her heart she rolled over and watched the two for a moment until Jay met her eyes and announced that they needed to talk. She nodded, knowing that he wanted to talk about Mitchell and who he was.
"Harrison, can you be a good boy and go read your book for a little while? We won't be long but as soon as we are down we will take you to see Gabriel okay?" He smiled widely at that and nodded but before he climbed over Jay to get out of bed, he placed a kiss on both of their cheeks. Aurora chuckled shd watched him leave and then sat up in bed and sighed.
"You want to know how I knew him." It wasn't a question.
Jay woke slowly to the sound of Harrison and Aurora speaking quietly. A small smile came to his face when he finally looked over at them.
"You sure it ain't gonna be a girl?" he asked sleepily, announcing he was awake. Harrison instantly crawled over his mother to wrap his arms around Jay and Jay hugged him back, pulling him under the covers and tickling him with his beard. Harrison giggled and squirmed until he stopped.
"You know you've been really good lately. While your mom and I deal with things. Jack and Monica both say so." Harrison gave him a bashful smile. "We might need you to keep that up, is that alright? Just like Jack has to fix the cars and Scarlett has to help the doctor. You have to just keep being a good boy, alright? That's your one job."
"I can do that, easy, Dad!" Harrison said with a smile.
Jay smiled back. "Good," he said softly and turned his attention to Aurora. "We need to talk..." By the look in her eyes she knew what about. He needed to know who the man was. And if he was important enough to change the fate of all of his group. "Then we'll talk to King again."
Aurora nodded at his words and kissed his cheek before cuddling back up to him so they could sleep. She slept well in his arms as she always did but she still had that worry in the back of her mind about Mitchell. That worry remained when she woke up the next morning. She needed to talk to Jay to make sure that he was clued in with who he was and she had no idea whether she planned in telling Harrison.
She looked at Jay's sleeping form and ran her hand down his arm gently before looking up at the sound of the bedroom door opening.
"Come on in honey." She whispered as she rolled over and lifted the covers for him to climb in. The moment she did she hugged him close. "How are you doing kiddo?"
"I'm okay. I thought they were going to hurt Jay."
"I wouldn't let that happen." He nodded and hugged her tighter and then put his hand on her stomach.
"Morning little brother." Aurora chuckled and rolled her eyes.
Jay nodded. He appreciated her words. But there was still an entire childhood of abuse he had yet to overcome.
"I wish I could believe that," he said quietly. "But you were there. When this all started. When Scarlett asked me to kill him. I did without hesitation. Without regret. Maybe that just means he meant that little to me. Or maybe it just means I have enough of him in me that I..." he trailed off.
"It doesn't matter. You're right, anyway. I'd never hurt them. Or you. I'd kill myself first." He looked her in the eyes so she knew it was true. "We should sleep," he added softly and smoothed her hair. "I love you."
Aurora blushed slightly at his compliment. It had been a long time she felt remotely close to being beautiful but when she saw the look on his face she believed his words completely. She chuckled at the way that he buried his face in the pillow and she smiled happily for a moment until his smile started to fade.
Things were serious then. Aurora placed her hand on his cheek and shook her head. "I promise I will...but that's not going to happen. I...don't know much about your past but I can tell that your father wasn't the best. You are not him do you hear? I see the way you are with Harrison. You couldn't be that way."
Jay shook his head at her question. "It's good. That we have something to be happy about in this world," he said softly, moving a piece of hair from her face. "If it is a girl, I bet she's gonna be a beautiful as her mom," he said with a little smirk, knowing how cheesy it sounded.
Her next words made him swallow hard and she shook his head against the pillow before burying his face in it momentarily, mumbling incoherently about how she had to be wrong. But when he emerged his face was blushed slightly and he had a smile on his face. It faded a bit. "I don't ever want to be like my dad was..." he said. "If i ever... ever start showing signs of-of... you know... i just... i want you to talk to me. Promise me..."
Aurora chuckled a little and shrugged. "It's just a feeling that's all. I had a similar feeling that Harrison would be a boy. It's just intuition I guess." She said sleepily. She pulled back from him a little then so that she could look at him, wanting to look him in the eye for a moment.
"Is it wrong that I am excited about us having a baby together?" She asked. Of course she had her fears but recently her excitement was overshadowing that, although of course having Mitchell here would cause some complications if he was allowed out and around their home after King decided what to do with him.
"I think you are going to be such an amazing father."
Jay sighed softly at her kisses. He still could not wrap his head around how he had managed to obtain the love of such a woman, but he was not about to look a gift horse in the mouth. Not again. He smiled softly as she nuzzled herself into him and he kept his arms tight around her.
"I know," he finally whispered, kissing the top of her head. "That's twice now you've saved me."
He let those words hand in the air for a moment. Then he spoke again. "You keep calling the baby a girl. You're so sure...?" His thumb traced small circles over his shirt on her stomach. She had grown even more over the last couple months and he couldn't ignore his fear. His fear that something might happen to Aurora or the baby. His fear that he wouldn't make a good father... but there was excitement as well.
Aurora smiled towards him when he turned towards her and pulled her close. She wrapped her arms around him as best as she could before he spoke. She shook her head a little.
"I would never have survived if I didn't change. Finding out I was carrying your baby...and I didn't know if I was ever going to get you back...I had to be for her." She said as she placed her hand over his on her stomach. "I want to be able to protect our family as much as you do Jay. I can do it, I know I can."
Aurora kissed him softly and then trailed a few gentle kisses down his jaw and stopped when she got to his neck before nuzzling into him. "I will protect you always, we will protect each other."
Jay laid down immediately. He didn't even kick off his shoes. A part of him wanted to be ready in case something else happened. The other half was just that tired. His eyes closed before Aurora even climbed into bed, but when she did he turned onto his side to face her. "I love you, too," he whispered.
The look on her face told him it was safe for now. He wanted to be with her. He hadn't just simply been there in bed with Aurora for days and he craved that. So he finally kicked off his boots and pulled the covers up. He pulled her close and closed his eyes.
"I was hoping I could protect you," he said softly. "I was hoping i could take on the brunt of the force and you could get by without having to change much. But... I was wrong." He opened his eyes again and looked into hers. "Whatever happened when I was away... it made you strong." His hand found her belly then.
When she finally left Harrison to sleep peacefully she placed the living room for a little while, unable go get her head around the events of the evening. Of course she was glad that everyone was safe but it was certainly unexpected and seeing Mitchell again made her blood boil.
When Jay came home she looked up at him, smiling back. She knew that she had a lot she needed to talk to him about. He was probably expecting her to tell him how she knew Mitchell because their conversation would have made it obvious to everyone that they didn't know each other. She watched for a moment as he went to see Harrison and then he was moving back towards her and taking her hand.
She listened to him with her eyes closed as she rested her forehead against his and she nodded. Aurora allowed him to tug her towards the bedroom and she started to undress so that she was more comfortable for bed and when she was ready she climbed under the sheets.
"I love you Jay."
It turns out that King was just as conflicted about what to do as he was. They weren't killers. At least not cold blooded ones. They killed when they had to. Jay argued that this would only come back to haunt them if they didn't just end it here and now, but he understood King's hesitancy. Once they gave up their morals, who were they?
Jay made his way back to the apartment after the long, yet unproductive talk. He knew it would take time to come up with something, but he had a feeling they didn't have much time to work with. He stepped inside just as the sun was rising. He had been up all night. Most of them had. Aurora had already put Harrison to sleep and he gave her a half-hearted smile when he saw her. He had to poke his head into Harrison's room just to see him alive again before closing the door slowly once more. He turned back towards Aurora.
"King has more men than even I think is necessary on those guys... so we should be alright for now." He took her hand and slowly drew her near. He rested his forehead against her own. "Come on," he said softly. "I don't want to talk about it anymore. I don't wanna gear about that man you knew or any of it... not right now. Just..." he tugged on her arm gently. "Come nap with me. It's been a long night."
Aurora leaned into his touch and was more than happy to return his soft kiss as he placed his lips at the corner of her mouth. She sighed and shook her head, glad that for now, this was over.
When Scarlett and Monica arrived she hugged them both with Harrison still in her arms and then nodded when Jay asked her to make sure everyone was going back to their apartments and staying together. She squeezed his hand gently and made her way outside, holding Harrison close still.
"Are you okay baby?" He nodded and rested his head on her shoulder.
"I was scared. I didn't know where you were."
"I'm sorry sweetheart. I'm here. I'm okay." He nodded again and wrapped his arms around her neck and whilst holding onto him in this way she gathered most people and got them back to their apartments as Jay had asked and before long she was going back to her own apartment and settling Harrison in bed. She spent the best part of thirty minutes sat on his bead stroking his face until he fell asleep before she leaned over and kissed him gently.
She didn't know what the hell she was going to do about Mitchell. She hated that he was here and that he hadn't stayed in San Francisco.
Jay moved a hand to the side of her face. "I was afraid they got you," he said, barely over a whisper. "When I didn't see you with the others." He leaned in to kiss the corner of her mouth.
Monica and Scarlett found them only moments later, all exchanging hugs of relief.
"What are we going to do with them?" Scarlett asked. "We can't just keep them here."
"We can't let them go, either. They'll just come right back," Jay said. "We need to hear what King says. For now, just have everyone go back to their apartments. Make sure everyone is staying in groups," he looked to Aurora then, asking her to take on this task. "They're heavily guarded but I'd still prefer we not spread people out too far just in case something goes wrong. I'll go talk to King."
It wasn't long before someone came and took Mitchell from her which she was glad about because she was closer to hitting him again, just because she hated the fact that he was here and that he had acted like he could have them when they didn't need saving..
Aurora looked to Jay and nodded when he offered his hands and she tooka the place from his hand and used it to cut the rope in order to free his hands entirely. Aurora took him in her arms but was soon interrupted by Jack and Harrison, not that she minded.
Aurora held Harrison a little closer than intended, mostly because Mitchell's presence here had shaken her a little. She kissed his head several times and looked back to Jay. "I wasn't going to let him do anything to our family or our home."
