An old married couple.. That was a funny way to be describing them. But it really wasn't that far a stretch either. They KNEW the other and sometimes a little too well. [b "Well that's not very nice. And maybe I can still shock you."] Rae said with a wink as she was still in a playful and teasing mood.
It had been TOO long since she had felt this light and free. God she didn't know when she would again and she wanted to enjoy it. And soon they had done the rides and were heading for food.
[b "So now we can have the treats, darlin'?"] Rae asked as she leaned in and kissed her cheek. After she had, the woman pulled back, eyes sparkling. [b "You're it!"] And she scampered off just a little ways, seeing if Em would give chase.
"I don't know if I missed you, though," Emily laughed. "You can't shock me, Raquel Jackson. I mean we are an old married couple."
The old rides hadn't changed and neither had Rae. The fresh air without the stress felt wonderful as soon they went for the food. All jokes aside Emi didn't remember feeling this good for a long time.
Dark eyes fell on the other and she let out an indignant sound. [b "That wasn't very nice Em. I KNOW I've missed you."] She was still being a brat and she knew it. But this was her when she wasn't in model mode and when she legitly liked someone. Em she had loved sooo the woman knew this side of her.
A faint smirk crossed her lips and her eyes sparkled as she was dragged towards the old rickety ferris wheel. [b "Why? Don't want to be at the top again and looking out over the whole festival? Or scared I'll try and steal a kiss?"] Rae asked, teasing the other.
Emily shook her head.
"I think I missed you, but I'm not sure yet," Emily said and dragged her to the rides. "We'll get food after the spinning and wild rides, missy. Now let's do this and hope it doesn't get stuck again."
They held hands on the rickety, rented ferris wheel for the first time. She never forgot these moments.
It was funny when Emily put it like that. And if she was going to be honest, Raquel really hadn't learned a damn thing. She still loved food when she was off and she still gorged herself before rides. Emily remember that was amazing to say the very least. But then, she assumed the other would when she had thrown up all over her shoes and a couple of times in her lap. She was bad when it came to that sort of thing.
[b "Nope! Not learned anything after all this time. But fooood, Emi!"] Again she huffed and whined. She wasn't going to win and she knew that. But this was how they used to be. The upset to this.. Em put up with her bratty ass and just like they used to, the two looed good together. Always had and more than once had been teased about getting married or something BUT ONLY if one of them had been male. Religious views..had to love them.
"And you still don't over eat and then go on those spinning rides? I remember you always did that and you haven't changed at all." Emily raised an eyebrow at her. A smile still graced her lips. "Rides first, I know I'll throw up if you do."
At least they looked good together. They always had even before she knew that she didn't have a definite type.
Okay soo maybe she could have chosen something more "adult" to call Emily. But she had always thought of the other as cute, adorable, pretty, beautiful, and soo much more. Cutie had just been the word to slip her lips. Yet another bad habit of hers, certaintly.
Rae had a tendency to act like a child and the moment they were in now was NO exception. She now had a hold on Em's arm. [b "Buuut! We had been sixteen and that had been RIGHT after food. I learned eat and wait."] She huffed, still trying to drag the other for the candied apples. The woman really did have her heart set on the sticky treat.
"Ouch," Emi placed a hand over her heart. "Cute? And here I thought there would be some adult synonyms like: regal, beautiful, maybe even dashing."
She couldn't hold the laugh in as she took her arm. Rae only stood a little taller than her otherwise they stood close. "Nope, rides first, last time you threw up on my new shoes. That's not happening again."
What she wore now was considered "casual" in a big city. Nothing glamourous about it. But then she had to remember that nowadays it seemed she and Emily came from two very different worlds. Which in her mind was a damn shame because the other had been one of her most dear growing up. [b "You don't look bad yourself, darlin'. And I think I'm the lucky one that such a cutie like you agreed to this."] The young woman said, a soft purr to her words.
Em was the cute one, Rae was the one who had the "look" down as some would say. She had fallen into the true "model" life and had men and women falling at her feet. But today that didn't matter to her. Her attention was on Em. Well for the most part. Unless she found something they truly wanted and then she would flirt to get it. Sometimes she really had no shame.
[b "It's much bigger than it used to be. But still the same allures it's always had. Sooo bad food and then rides?"] She asked, her hand taken Em's as she all but dragged her to get candied apples.
"Wow, you look...amazing. What the hell are you doing here with me?" Emi laughed it off but the words rang true to her ears. She was small town and not glamorous while Rae had the look down and men and women still fell at her feet.
"Well, what do you think? Still the same but only larger and more bad foods for us."
It had been so long since she had lived in a small town. And as the days passed, the daily life swung back and forth like a pendulum. Slow yet..a little off? "Mr.Delicious" was around more and more. Had even managed to unearth some people who were willing to talk it seemed. The disgraced teacher they had had back in high school being one of them. And that had been a shock to Rae. But she never let that show.
The day of the festival, the young woman had settled on a white spaghetti strapped blouse and midthigh jean shorts along with strapped sandals. She had her keys, wallet, and phone in her mini backpack she had and her sunglasses on her head as her hair fell down her back in soft waves. [b "Sorry had to convince my father to let me use his car. I didn't mean to keep you waiting."] Came her words as she walked up to Em, eyes trailing over the other. She looked cute and so ready for the summer.
[b "Shall we?"] Rae asked and held an arm out to her ex, a smile gracing her lips. She REALLY had been looking forward to the festival since she had begged Emily for them to go. The bouncing she was doing was almost childish as she didn't want to stay still.
The town settled down after the funeral and life swung like a pendulum. Designer hung around more and more as if trying to make a point. The strange emergence was the disgraced teacher for questioning.
The day of the fair she wore a summer dress and strappy sandals. This wasn't a date but it felt like it while she waited on Rae.
She was hardly ever one to think out her choices or desires. Hence how she got into some of the situations she had found herself in. But really, what could be wrong with going to the festival with Emily? Besides, God only knew when she would be able to do something like this again..what was the saying again? Ah, yeah.. "seize the day".
Her cheeks turned the faintest of pinks when the other had kissed her cheek. Her heart fluttered as well. It had been too long and something in her still missed those feathery kisses. Buuut she had to get her head out of the clouds. They were exes...but still good friends.
[b "Hey, trouble's my middle name. But I guess I could try not to get into much for you."] Rae said, a soft purr to her words and giving a wink. God she couldn't help it and her teasing of the other woman. For just those moments, she wanted things to seem how they used to. A form of normalcy.
A voice told her to be careful and not get close.
Emi chose the second voice that said, have some fun!
Someone was getting screwed over and it was probably her.
Emi leaned up a little and kissed her cheek, she melted a little at the soft curve of her cheek. "We can go, Rae, I'll call you later. Don't get into too much trouble while I'm at work."
The conversation was depressing and happened to relive A LOT of things that Rae would have rathered to leave to their past. But the fact that now they had P.I. likely to try and talk with them, it was best to get their stories straight. The memories.
It wasn't a pleasant visit but she and Em did leave Jenna after the conversation. And they ended up back at Emily's work. Rae herself wouldn't be in town much longer, but when she saw the flyer, her eyes did sparkle. It had been YEARS since she had gotten the chance to do something like this. Or at least with people who REALLY meant something to her.
[b "We had plans for dinner. So, yeah. You'll see me later."] She said and stole a second flyer from Em and gripped her arm, a pleading and almost child-like gleam in her eyes. [b "We HAVE to go! Pleaseee, Em?!"] And just for that moment, she was acting EXACTLY like she used to when they had dated and she REALLY wanted Em to do something. It looked like some old habits really did die hard.
