Alyce held on a bit tighter when the two started to bicker so she didn't fall off when Zoro stood up straighter.
Sanji felt the impact with his head and winced before rubbing the back of his head. "Namiiii but he's not treating her right!" Sanji retorted.
When asked where she wanted to be put down she looked around then pointed at the lawn chair. "u-Uhm, there's fine."
"Just focus on letting your leg heal," Zoro replied. When they reached the deck his ears were assaulted by Sanji's voice, and his face soured even more. "Mind your own business Eyebrows! I'm just doing what I'm told. And stop comparing her to food!"
The two argued for a bit before Nami sighed in annoyance and hit them both on the head. "Enough! Zoro, just put her down. Sanji, stop picking fights."
Zoro grumbled, "Where," he glanced back to Alyce.
Alyce grimaced at Zoro's voice and sighed. "L-Look I'm not happy about this either Grumpy." She took the pills then carefully slid off the bed onto Zoro's back. "God this is embarrassing..." She mumbled under her breath.
As they headed back to the main deck Sanji was picking up Nami and Robin's dishes from their drinks. As he lifted his head he smiled but then his smile faded when he saw how Zoro was holding Alyce. "MOSSHEAD! Do you even know how to treat a woman?! First you throw her on your shoulder like a sack of flour then you put her on your back like shes a basket of potatoes!" He groaned. "Treat her like a woman for gods sake!"
Zoro grumbled a bit under his breath as he watched Chopper hand Alyce some pills to take care of pain and swelling. [i Even Luffy isn't this much of a pain.] Once she had taken the pills, he crouched down in front of the bed, back facing Alyce. "Get on."
Chopper did his best to keep a straight face at the clear annoyance on Zoro's face as well as his current obedience. "As long as you follow doctors orders, you should be better in no time and then you wont have to be buddies anymore."
"W-Wait what do you mean buddy system? I'll be fine!"
"Last time you said that as well and your leg got infected."
Alyce opened her mouth to reply but knew he was right. "Aren't there like... crutches or something I could use. I already bother you guys enough. I don't need to have a babysitter to be a bother even more..." She brushed the wisps of hair to the side that were falling in her face. "I'll be more careful this time..."
Chopper shook his head. "No, as your doctor this is what is best for you. You will follow the buddy system. If Zoro is not available then someone else will help you. You basically only have one leg at the moment."
"Gods dammit this sucks..."
"You can thank Luffy for that," Zoro replied.
While the two continued to talk, Chopper finished up with Alyce's leg and stitched it back up. For added measure and to prevent reopening the wound, he bandaged it up. "You'll want to stay off it for a few hours. It will likely swell a little since we had to irritate it further to drain it. Until your leg is fully healed, as your doctor I am ordering you to utilize the buddy system."
"Yes," Chopper nodded, "and since you're here Zoro, you will be her buddy."
"What?! No way!"
Alyce rubbed the back of her head. "Anytime my Gran had to get a surgery she would get really sick afterwards... I was always there to take care of her so she would get better for a little while. But I don't want to get sick because I have to take care of her."
When Chopper told Zoro to keep talking she chuckled. "You suck at small talk. But I'll play along. The ship is amazing. It's definitely not what I would imagine a pirate ship to be. And your guys log book. It's got the most amazing stories I've ever read. They almost seem unreal. Scratch that, they do seem unreal. But I believe every word."
Zoro scowled, "What's your deal with surgeries?"
Chopper began to prepare everything to drain the wound and reclean it. He ignored the two as they talked, almost glad Zoro was there to distract Alyce. Once he reopened the wound, he made a slightly bigger incision, then gently squeezed to force the puss out. This took a few attempts before he he was able to get back in the wound and disinfect it again. "This may hurt a little," he glanced over at Zoro, "Keep talking."
"You're distracting her. Keep talking."
Zoro huffed them looked back at Alyce, "Uh, so," he frowned, "How do you like it here so far?"
Alyce glared at the green haired man but gasped when he threw her over his shoulder. "H-Hey! Put me down!" But as he spoke she frowned knowing he was right. She would only put them in more danger.
She stayed silent as he carried her to the sick bay.
When Zoro and Alyce entered the sick bay Chopper turned around in his chair. "Zoro? Alyce?" When Zoro explained the situation Chopper immediately turned to Alyce. "Leg up please."
Alyce sighed and turned so she was laying on the bed. "Yessir."
When Chopper removed the bandage the wound looked more inflamed than before. "I knew it... it is infected... but how... I'm always careful."
Alyce sighed. "It's not your fault Chopper... My body unfortunately gets infections easily... I'm not surprised a bullet wound got infected.
"Well we're going to fix this. I wouldn't be much of a doctor if I couldn't help with infections."
Alyce froze. "I-I won't have to get a surgery will I?"
Chopper shook his head. "No it's not that dire yet. We'll get this fixed before then."
"Stubborn woman," Zoro grumbled as he stood up, "You'll need surgery if you don't get that looked at."
"What are your doing Mosshead," Sanji asked with a scowl.
"Taking her to Chopper." Zoro threw Alyce over his shoulder and kicked the door open. "If we get into trouble she'll slow us down. The sooner her leg is healed the better."
"So your idea of getting her better is to manhandle her?"
"Better than you treating her like she's breakable." Zoro pushed by Sanji and left the kitchen with Alyce still over his shoulder. "You're about as much trouble as Luffy." Once they reached sick bay, he sat her down on the bed and looked at Chopper. "She hit the table when the ship was hit."
Alyce chuckled. “I am reading from the beginning Grumps. I’ve read quite a few books and heard lots of stories but this log book. This book is my favorite yet.” She smiled softly but her smile faded for a moment. [i I wonder if Ace had a logbook...]
Lost in her thoughts for a moment a huge wave hit the ship causing Alyce to stumble forward into the table where the corner hit her directly in the wound. Her face turned red as she held back a yelp of pain as she held onto the wall for balance.
Sanji rushed over to her seeing her expression. “Alyce! Are you alright?”
Alyce waved her hand and shook her head. “I-I’m fine... j-just give me a moment...”
Robin frowned. “I’ll go get Chopper.”
When everyone looked at her with raised brows she scratched the back of her head.
“ I-It’s fine...”
Robin sighed. “It won’t be fine if your wound is infected.”
“But... I don’t want surgery...” She mumbled under her breath.
"Well," Nami smiled, "The only difference between fairytales and our adventures is that we usually end up in the news."
"And not in a good way," Usopp added.
Zoro leaned back in his chair, "Your should start from the beginning of you're going to read that." He glanced at Nami and chuckled, "There was a time when Nami used us as a means to an end. Turns out she only did it to save her home."
"He kept her prisoner," Luffy said point blank.
Alyce saw the look on Chopper’s face and raised her eyebrow. “Chopper don’t worry so much I’m fine.” She smiles softly. After Chopper rebandaged her leg she gave a small wave before heading to find a new spot to read more of the log book.
Later that night Alyce bursted into the kitchen with her eyes wide. “Y-You guys... you guys actually flew up into the sky wow this ship is incredible.”
Robin chuckled looking up from her book. “Actually that was a different shop. The ship you’re reading about right now is the Going Merry. But the ship you’re currently standing on is the Thousand Sunny.”
Alyce looked around and grinned. “You guys are amazing. These stories seem like they’re straight out of a fairytale and yet I believe every word.”
"Is there any specific location where its sore the most?" Chopper removed the bandages once Alyce was situated. He proceeded to clean around the outside of it then began examining it. He couldn't find anything wrong with it but he was concerned about the bright red skin that surrounded the wound itself. [i It can't be infected, can it?]
Nami looked down at her pose then looked up a the sky. It was still clear but she had the feeling there would be a storm coming soon. [i We aren't far from the next island but that storm will probably hit us before we reach it.]
Alyce glanced at Robin then back to the two bickering men. "They've always been like this huh? It's even logged in the books that they argued back then too."
Robin nodded. "I didn't join the crew until after their journey in Alabasta but yes since I've been with the crew they've always argued. And Nami said even before that as well."
Alyce chuckled softly. "It's kinda amusing." She looked at Chopper and nodded. "Sure, you can check my leg. I think it's getting a lot better it doesn't really hurt anymore its just sore."
