So once the papers were filled out, and Bradley and Rosie were on their own, it felt like a weight had been lifted off of his shoulders. There was nothing that could make her feel any less awkward than she did now. She felt a tremendous amount of guilt for pulling him out here in the first place and she was sure that his feelings towards the whole situation were not about to change simply because she was scared about what might have happened to her if she didn’t insist on Bradley’s help. However, if Andrew had told her that the reason he was not able to work was because he had a young child, she might have managed to find another way around the whole situation.
Roslyn forced a smile towards Bradley as he spoke about his daughter. It was refreshing to see so much unconditional love towards another human being, especially a child. It was something she had missed out on and even now she was saddened by the loss of her child all those years ago. She knew deep down that it was better this way, knowing that her child never had to know the pain her ex had caused and knowing that he could not hurt a child as well as her, but that didn’t mean she no longer felt the pain of the loss.
Roslyn looked out towards Rosie and found her forced smile replaced with a genuine one as she watched the young girl playing in the water. She continued to look out towards the water, even when Bradley started to speak to her again, apologising for the way he had acted towards him. Her gaze fell to the floor and she shook her head just before Rosie had run up to them.
[b “You have nothing to apologise for. I understand and I want you to know how sorry I am.”] Her words were cut short by the arrival of the young girl and she smiled back at her as she watched her grinning face near them. She couldn’t help but laugh at their exchange and embrace and watched as she ran back out to the water.
[b “Of course. I will bring her in soon.”] She said as she took a deep breath and watched him walk away. She placed her hands on the ground and pushed herself up. She was wearing shorts and could go into the water so far without getting completely soaked but it didn’t matter if she did, she could always change later. For the next fifteen minutes to two got to know each other a little bit and as it turned out, she would need to change, mostly because Rosie apparently liked water fights and had absolutely soaked her through.
Laughing, Roslyn turned to the young girl and held out her hand. [b “Come on, I promised your Dad that I would take you in so you can have time to prepare for dinner.”] The young girl took hold of her hand, but not before splashing her again, soaking her hair even more. She used her free hand to brush the hair back from her face and sighed happily as they walked up to the porch to grab her towel. Roslyn wrapped it around the girl and walked into the house and found the Bradley cooking.
[b “Delivered on time, as promised.”] She said with a smile and the young girl next to her giggled and shook her head. [b “I’m going to have to get changed myself. I’ll be back down shortly.”] She said as she made her way to her bedroom so she could get out of her dripping clothes. When she found something more suitable she placed her clothes in the bathroom and changed into something dry and towel-dried her hair, pulling it back into a braid so that it was out of her way before returning to the kitchen where they would sit and eat.
When the male heard her voice, he looked towards her and watched as she lowered herself into the sand beside him. [b "Thank you. She's my pride and joy pretty much. I can't think of a life where I wasn't happy. Even though she's still young, she's captured my heart, and those around her as well"] he said lightly. He didn't know why he was opening up to this woman, about his daughter but it felt good talking about her. His eyes moved back to the child in the water, and his heart swelled a little bit at the sight.
[b "I do want to apologize to you. I wasn't meaning to be such a hard ass, but I wasn't expecting you to insist on having me. When Andrew told you no, I thought you would have left it at that. But I can tell you are a really stubborn woman, and I am sorry for treating you like a piece of shit. It wasn't intended, but when it comes to my daughter's safety I will do anything to protect her"] he told her. He then looked towards her slowly, and took in the sight of her. She was a beautiful woman.
He took a breath, and started talking again. [b "I can understand where you are coming from with wanting me to protect you. I was the best at my job, but I had a life. A life I was happy with. I wasn't having to deal with this kind of thing. Just knowing that my daughter is now in harms way, is eating me up inside. I can't wrap my head around why you insisted like you did. I'm not meaning to be an asshole, just being honesty right now"] he stopped again when Rosie ran up to them.
Her hair was plastered to her head, and she had a huge grin on her face. Her eyes darted to the woman, and then back to her father. [#ff00ff "Daddy, when's dinner going to be ready? I'm getting hungry.."] she pouted. The male smiled and opened his arms to the wet child. [b "I'll be heading inside to get it started right now then"] he said. The child grinned and hugged her father tightly, before running back towards the water. He shook his head, and laughed a bit. She was a little spit fire, and he loved it. He then looked back at the woman beside him.
[b "Mind keeping an eye on her while I start dinner?"] he asked. He stood and brushed the sand off the back of his jeans, and looked towards the water again. [b "She likes you, you know. I can tell. She's just being shy around you, because you are still a stranger. All she knows is that I have to protect you too. She'll warm up to you sooner or later though, and when that time comes, make sure you are ready for a little ball of energy"] he said lightly.
He then looked towards the horizon and noticed the sun was starting to set. [b "Bring her inside in about fifteen minutes. I'll get the burgers grilling, and then I'll give her a quick bath before I finish"] he told her. He then turned and headed back into the cabin. He started hunting down everything he would need. He placed the patties on the counter, and found the grill he would need to use. He went about getting everything ready, trusting Rosyln with his daughter. He had no other choice in the matter, he had to trust her, and that's just what he was doing.
Roslyn nodded as the man spoke. She supposed that it made sense for her to take the room he suggested so that it meant she could have some more privacy. The last thing any of them needed was to figure out how to avoid each other if they were sharing the same bathroom. She picked up her things and turned away from Bradley and his daughter without saying another word. She had detected his frustration and did not want to do more to further it. She sighed as she made her way up the stairs, poking her head around two doors before finding the room with the en-suite.
Roslyn made her way into the room, leaving the door open as she started to explore her room. It was a nice size, slightly bigger than her own and it was modest too. Perhaps when she settled she would personalise it with some of her own drawings. For now, it would do nicely. She ran her fingers over the soft mattress and moved towards the chest of drawers and pulled the top one open. They were of a good size and she moved towards the case she had placed near the door and placed it on the bed and opened it gently so that she could unpack her things.
As she moved around she could hear the muffled voices of Bradley and Rosie but couldn’t quite make out what they were saying, not that it mattered all that much. She wasn’t about to intrude on their privacy and their relationship. She sighed as she placed the last of her things in the drawer she made her way to the bed and she settled onto it quickly. She was only permitted a few moments of peace and she sat up instantly when she heard a tap on her door, startled by the sound. She blinked a few times after realising that her eyes had almost allowed her to drift off into sleep.
Roslyn smiled towards him lightly as he relayed his plans to her. [b “Hamburgers sound fine to me.”] She said as he began to walk out of the door and left her alone once more. Perhaps going outside would be a good idea since it had been some time since she last got some fresh air. Ever since she had received the phone call she hadn’t stepped foot outside, not even to make a simple trip to the shops out of fear that he might get to her. At least here she was safe.
Roslyn went through the drawers to find something suitable for the weather outside. She certainly did not bring a swimsuit with her, but she had some shorts and a tank top that would allow the sun to grace her skin. The last thing Roslyn had expected was to be near the sea, so she had not considered packing such clothing. When she was changed she made her outside to where Bradley was sat watching his child and she couldn’t help but smile at the sight of the two of them.
[b “She’s beautiful.”] She said as she lowered herself to the ground next to Bradley, making sure there was enough distance between them so her presence did not frustrate him too much.
The male looked towards her and he shrugged his shoulders a bit. [b "Honestly, you have your choice in room's. The master bedroom is slightly bigger than the other's, and I figured you'd want that one, because it has it's own bathroom attached to it. If you don't want that one, then the bathroom is in the hall across from one of the others"] he said lightly. He honestly didn't care what room she chose. He just kind of wanted her to hurry up at the moment, so he could get his things into a spare bedroom. He then turned back to Rosie.
[b "We can go swimming, let's get you changed, and let Rosyln get comfortable"] he said lightly. The little girl broke out into a grin, and nodded lightly. [#FF00FF "Okay daddy"] she said. The male grabbed her bag, along with her hand and led her to her room. [b "This is your room baby girl"] he said. She looked around the room, and giggled a little. [#FF00FF "It looks like my other one"] she said. The male looked down at her and nodded. [b "It's supposed to baby"] he said as he closed the door behind him.
He placed her bag onto the floor, and opened it up. He found her swim suit, and he helped her put it on. [#FF00FF "Daddy, when can we go back to our house? I miss my toys, and my bed.."] she said. The sound of her voice broke his heart. [b "We can't go home for a while baby. That lady out there, she needs daddy's help, and I have no choice but to help her"] he told her. [#FF00FF "You could have said no.. I want to go home.."] she said her voice cracking on the last words, before breaking down into tears.
He pulled her into his arms, and rocked her back and forth. [b "I know you do baby, believe me I know you do. Right now I can't tell her no. She's in a lot of danger, and I'm the only one who knows how to protect her. I promise you, when this is all over, you and I will go home, and I will make it up to you"] he said. He could feel her little body shaking in his arms, as she wrapped her hands around his neck. [#FF00FF "I don't like it here.."]
He knew she didn't like it here. She was too young to fully understand what was going on. He couldn't explain it any better than he already had. [b "I know, let's go out and play in the water though, before we get some dinner"] he said. She stepped back and looked up at him nodding lightly. [#FF00FF "Will you make your hamburgers for dinner?"] she asked, as she hiccuped a little bit. [b "Of course I will baby"] he promised. He kissed her cheek, and helped her get into her swim suit. When he was done, he grabbed her a towel.
He made sure she had her pool toys, and then walked out. He went and found the woman, and he tapped on the open door. [b "Rosie and I are heading outside. If you feel up to coming out in a little bit, that would be great. Also I hope you like hamburgers, that's what I will be making tonight for dinner"] he said. He took one last look at her, before he then turned and walked towards the back of the cabin. Rosie looked over her shoulder at the woman, and then followed her father outside, and towards the beach.
The male watched as her eyes lit up, and she dropped her towel and ran straight to the water giggling. He couldn't help but smile at the sight. Seeing her like this, made his heart swell. He stood at the water's edge, as she waded into the water, and then sat down with her pool toys around her. He just wished he could do more to ease his daughters mind. For now, this was all he could do for her.
It seemed that she woke up just as the car was pulling to a stop. She thought that perhaps they were stopping for a break to allow Rosie something to eat or even use the bathroom if she needed. Roslyn genuinely thought that she had only been asleep for a couple of hours but it seemed that the stress of the situation and the fear she had been living in had taken its toll on her and had allowed her to sleep throughout the whole journey. She certainly needed it, especially since she had a very little amount of sleep these last few nights, worrying about whether her ex might find a way into her home.
She waited quietly for the moment, wondering if they were going to check if she was awake but she felt a breeze enter the car as her door was opened and she heard Bradley’s voice beckoning her to wake up. She was surprised that she had slept all the way but she needed it so she was grateful. It was just proof that she felt safe with him. His scent filled her as he leaned over her to remove the blindfold and she took a minute to allow her eyes to adjust to the light. Roslyn nodded towards Bradley who told her to take her time before she climbed out of the car and took in their environment. She had no idea what she was expecting but this was far from it. She didn’t know why but she had imagined that living in hiding would not exactly be glamourous. Perhaps a small apartment where they kept themselves to themselves but this was so much better. It was a cabin, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, where there would be very little footfall.
She turned to face the beach now after taking in the sights of the cabin and found herself smiling. It had been a long time since she had visited a beach and it was one of the places she found most relaxing. Perhaps she would come outside and draw the landscape later. She hadn’t been inspired to draw for a long time but this new environment and new sense of safety offered her some. After a few seconds of inhaling the fresh sea air, she found herself turning around to head into the cabin and she couldn’t help but laugh when she saw Rosie happily running around the house and asking if she could go swimming.
Roslyn took the time to look around the house and even explored upstairs to have a look at the rooms. They were all of an equal size and well-presented although she could tell that Rosie’s had already been picked out by the décor in one of the rooms. After a minute she ventured back downstairs and observed Bradley watching his daughter for a moment. It was lovely to see how much adoration he had for her and she knew that she would find herself growing attached to the young girl quickly, if she gave her a change to get to know her that is. Children could sometimes but up barriers and it was likely that this girl would do that, especially since she was the reason she had been pulled away from her home and her normal routine.
[b “I wasn’t expecting something like this.”] She said towards Bradley as she neared him. [b “I can take my things upstairs and get out of your hair for a while and unpack if you wouldn't mind telling me which room will be mine.”]
As the male drove, he shut the radio off, and let the silence wash over them. That, and he wanted to make sure he head Rosie speaking if she did. As he drove, he kept looking in the rear view mirror and realized that the woman had fallen asleep. He didn't blame her, cause he wanted to do the same thing. He let out a small sigh as he looked back at the road. [b "Do you need to stop anywhere?"] he asked Andrew. The other male shook his head lightly, [i "No I don't. I know Rosie might though"] he said.
Bradley knew that, but with Rosie coloring, she didn't seem like she had to use the restroom. The safe house they were heading too, was a good six hour drive away. They were half way through the drive, when Rosie said she had to use the bathroom. He noticed the Rosyln was still sleeping, so the stop was really quick. He bought the child something to eat, and then helped her back inside. He smiled at her, and kissed her forehead lightly. [#ff00ff "Are we there yet daddy?"] she asked looking at him. The male shook his head at the child.
[b "Not yet, but we are almost there. Then you'll be able to get out, and run around"] he promised. When the child was happy with that answer, he climbed back inside and started towards the freeway again. [i "You know, I could take Rosie with me. Have her stay at my mom's place. That way you won't have to worry about her"] the male offered. Just thinking about that made the male shake his head, and his temper rise. [b "I love your mother to death, but I don't think right now would be the best time"] he admitted lightly.
[b "With MacKenzie calling me, and I just feel like she'd be better with me, where her mother can't find her"] he said softly. He didn't want the child hearing about her mother right now. She would want to talk to her, and he didn't want that happening. [i "Oh? She's calling you again? What about this time?"] Andrew asked as he opened the bottle of Dr. Pepper he had bought from the gas station. [b "She wants to take Rosie to Disney World"] he said bitterly. He knew the real reason why she wanted too.
[i "What's so bad about that? It would give you some time alone"]
[b "Everything's wrong about that. She's planning on leaving, and not looking back. She doesn't want Rosie with me. When I have full custody of her. She's planning on kidnapping her"]
[i "No, that's bullshit man. I don't blame you for being slightly worried about that. Have you let her see Rosie though? With you around?"]
[b "The funny thing is, I've tried. Mackenzie's the one who refuses to have me around. That right there, is a huge red flag on her part"] he said slightly his hands tightening around the wheel.
[i "I can see why"] Andrew muttered lightly. Pretty soon the men were silent once more. [b "Don't get me wrong, I know Rosie adores your mother, but right now the best place for her, is with me. Even with everything going on"] he said, his voice cracking a little bit. [i "I understand mate, I really do. The offer will always be open though"] he said. Bradley nodded lightly, [b "Thanks Drew, that means a lot to me, it really does"] he said turning to look at him for a second. Then he looked back at the road.
About fifteen minutes later, they were pulling up in front of a cabin near the beach, and he cut the engine. He then climbed out, and opened the side door as Andrew got Rosie out. [b "It's time to wake up sleeping beauty. We're were."] he said as he leaned in and took her blindfold off. [b "Take as much time as you need, I'll take your things inside, and you can explore your new home"] he said with a warm smile. He left the door open, and went to the back and got her things.
He carried them inside, and watched as Rosie ran around the house giggling. He shook his head lightly, and set Rosyln's things on the floor. He would let her pick her room. The cabin had two levels, and Rosie was already in love. [#ff00ff "Daddy! Can I go swimming?!"] she screamed bouncing up and down. [b "Later baby, we have some unpacking to do"] he promised. That made the child grin, and start running though the cabin again. He just hoped that, Roslyn was taking all of this in. He leaned against the door jab watching his daughter, as Andrew made sure everything was unlocked.
Although Roslyn could tell that the two men had been talking about her she had no idea what had been said between them. She figured that they had been discussing her case, perhaps even talking about where they were going to take her so that she was protected but there was no way that she would have thought they were discussing her looks. Partly because her ex had completely worn down any confidence or self esteem that she might have had once upon a time. She watched as Andrew moved towards the young girl and started to help her back away her things. He might not have been her biological family but she could tell my looking at the two of them together, Rosie thought the world of him and it was so clear that he felt the same way about her. It was sweet to see.
Her heart ache slightly when the girl claimed she didn’t want to leave and asked about whether she would be coming with them but Rosie didn’t indicate whether she was displeased with that matter or not. She looked up from the two of them when she heard Bradley’s voice. It made sense for her to not see where they were going. If her ex was to ever threaten her she wouldn’t be able to give away their location. She nodded softly and allowed the man to move behind her so that he could cover her eyes with a bandana and when it was secure and he was sure she couldn’t see anything, he took hold of her arm and led her out towards the van. Luckily her driveway was rather secluded and no one would see her being led to the van in this way.
Bradley was sure to be gently as he helped her into the car, strapping her in when he was done and telling her to let him know if she needed to stop for any reason. A part of her hoped that they didn’t have to, that way they would get to wherever they were going sooner but there would need to be a couple of stops on the way since they had a child travelling with them. She nodded once more to show that she understood and waited for any indication that everyone else was in the van and they were ready to go.
Roslyn felt the van burst to life and lurch forward and as soon as she knew that they were on their way to somewhere new, she felt a bit of relief. She hoped that wherever they were going would be far away enough that they couldn’t be found. The journey was easy enough when one was blindfolded. Having all the light and distractions blocked out had allowed her to fall asleep along the journey, something she hadn’t done in a few days since she had received that phone call. She remained that way for quiet a while and even when she finally woke up she still had no concept of how long they had been driving or where they were.
Watching his little one, was the biggest joy the male ever had. Watching her grow and learning new things. The sad part was she looked so much like his ex, that it sometimes hurt to ever watch her. Her eyes were the same color, and her attitude was the same. It was like they were two peas in a pod. He wasn't about to dwell on that for long though. Andrew nudged him slightly, [i "I wasn't expecting her to be that good looking"] he whispered. Bradley just rolled his eyes and crossed his arms over his chest, keeping quiet for a moment.
[b "Honestly I wasn't either. I was hoping she would have been a bit older, or a teenager. Then I might not have that hard of a time. But seeing as she's around my age, is going to make this a bit harder for me"] he admitted. The two talked about it a moment longer, before she came back into the room saying she was ready. Andrew walked over, and started helping Rosie clean up her things. [i "It's time to get back into the car. You are going somewhere else"] he said to the child, and she pouted.
[#FF00FF "I don't want to leave.. Is that lady coming too?"] she asked pointing. Andrew lowered her hand, and looked into her eyes. [i "Yes, your daddy has a special job to do for a little while, and he will keep you safe as well Princess, I promise you"] he said. Bradley loved watching Andrew with his daughter. Their bond was so special, he was glad he let the other man into her life. He looked at Rosyln and sighed a bit. [b "Considering you can't see where we are going, I have to blindfold you, and I'll load you into the van"] he said.
He pulled a bandanna out of his back pocket, and he stepped behind the woman. He tied it around his eyes, and gently took her arm. [b "You okay with Rose?"] he asked. Andrew nodded, [i "Yeah. We are going to get her car seat, and I'll get her strapped in"] he said taking her hand. The four then made their way out to the van. Bradley helped the woman into the van, and he strapped her inside. [b "If you get hungry, or need to use the restroom let me know"] he said.
He then closed the door, and went back inside for her bag. He made sure it was the only thing she had, and then he shut the door behind him. He watched as Rosie and Andrew got her car seat, and he couldn't help but smile at the sight. She was so young, and innocent, he didn't want her apart of this. He shook his head as he opened the trunk, and tossed her bag inside. He then slammed the truck shut, and went and climbed into the drivers seat. Rosie was finally strapped in, and Andrew climbed in front.
[b "Alright, it's gonna be a while, and like I said. If you need to make a pitstop, let me know"] he said. He started the van, put it into gear and pulled out of the driveway. Rosie was settled in watching the woman, and Andrew started fiddling with the radio. This was going to be a long ass ride, and he hoped that they could make it halfway, before having to make a stop or two.
It was harder to relive than she realised. Roslyn had worked so hard to shut the events out of her mind, forget about what had happened to her that night and what she had lost. It was not just a baby she had lost but the potential of a better future but with that she held a world of regret for not running away the moment she had found out that she was with child those years ago.
Roslyn brought her hand up to her eyes so that she could wipe away the tears that had threatened to run down her cheeks. She nodded towards him before the sound of the young child in the other room brought their conversation to an end. It was a delightful sound, but one that still failed to bring her comfort in a time such as this. She attempted to pull herself together as a new gentleman entered the room with the young girl in his arms and she looked down at the floor to try and conceal her sadness from her until she was instructed to go back into the living room and only then she looked up at the new stranger who had entered her house.
When she was introduced to him she nodded back and then she was being instructed to pack a bag. Roslyn was not naïve, she knew that they might need to leave this place behind if he was to offer her any protection. [b “I understand. Whatever you deem as necessary.”] Within a matter of seconds, she was left along in the kitchen and she ran her hand over her face before she made her way towards the stairs so that she could pack a bag.
She did not see the need to pack anything other than the necessities, ensuring that she only had a few items of clothing and she did not take any personal items with her, not that she had that many to begin with anyway. Roslyn did not need the thirty minutes to pack but she took the time to clear her mind and cast any memories that she had to relive out of her mind so that she could go about the day without thinking of her tragedies once more.
When she was satisfied that she had everything she needed and that her mind was her own again, she retreated downstairs and found Andrew and Bradley talking in the living room as his daughter continue to play with whatever she had brought in her backpack.
[b “I have everything I need. I will be prepared to leave whenever you are.”] She said as she placed the small bag on the sofa and waited for any further instructions. Roslyn glanced down at Rosie and offered her a smile. A part of her figured that she would need to gain her trust at some point, after all they would both live in this safe house.
The man sat there listening to her speaking. Seeing the tears welling up in her eyes, and seeing the pain made him soften a little bit more. When she was finished talking, he rubbed his temples lightly. [b "I know it's hard to relive this, and I know it's all in your file, but I need to make sure everything is correct before proceeding into our next steps."] he said lightly. That's when there was a knock at the door, and he heard Rosie crying out. [#ff00ff "UNCLE ANDREW!"] she screamed, and Bradley shook his head lightly knowing that's who it was.
Sure enough, he heard the child's scream of laughter as she was scooped up by the man, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, and he carried her into the kitchen. [i "Yes it's me, and yes I'm here to save the day"] he said with a laugh. Rosie snuggled into his neck, and started sucking her thumb, as she male cradled her in his arms. He looked between Bradley, and the woman and he cocked his head to the side. [i "I see I missed something already"] he said, as he placed Rosie back on her feet.
[i "Alright baby girl, go back into the living room"] he said. The child nodded and looked towards her father. [#ff00ff "Can we go home soon daddy?"] she asked. The male sighed and shook his head lightly. [b "No sweetie, we can't"] he said softly. The child's heart sank, and he saw it on her face. She lowered her head and walked back into the living room. [b "Roslyn, this is Andrew, Andrew this is Roslyn. She just finished telling me what happened a couple of years ago"] he said lightly. Andrew nodded a bit and looked towards the table top.
[i "I take it, you haven't told her yet? That she should start packing a small bag?"] he asked. Bradley shook his head, [b "I was about too, when you walked in"] he said and turned to the woman. [b "I know I made you relive the most horrible night, but you need to pack a bag or two. We will blind fold you, and we will move you to a safe house. You have a half an hour"] he said, as he stood. The two men walked out of the kitchen, and into the living room, and joined the child.
Rosie looked up and bit her fingernail. [#ff00ff "Daddy, why can't we go home? I don't want to be here.. I want Henry.."] she said, her voice cracking a bit on the last word. [b "I know you do baby girl, but daddy has to help this woman. I want you to be a brave little girl, and I want you to help me out here"] he said. Andrew excused himself, and walked back out to his van and grabbed the child's toy bear and hid it behind his back. He then walked back in and smiled.
[i "Your daddy called me earlier, and told me you might want this"] he said, as he pulled the bear out. [#ff00ff "Henry! Thank you daddy! Thank you Uncle Andrew!"] she cried out, and reached for the bear hugging it to her chest. That's when the water works started. Bradley watched his child cling to her toy, and his heart was breaking. He was still really upset about this whole mess, but he didn't have much of a choice in the matter. He looked at Andrew [b "The van ready?"] he asked the other male.
Andrew nodded lightly. [i "yeah it is, you just need to stash your car somewhere, or I can have Daniel come and take it away."] he offered. [b "Daniel should come and get it, and then keep it until this whole thing is over. If it'll ever be over"] he said darkly. Rosie looked between the two, and started sucking her thumb, as she sat on the floor. Bradley and Andrew started talking in hushed voices, as they waited for the woman to finish packing, and let them know she was ready to go.
Roslyn closed the door behind the two and shifted to the side as she watched the man lean down to talk to his daughter. She took that moment to look the two over properly now that they were not simply stood on her doorstep. The young girl was perhaps one of the sweetest children she had laid eyes on in a long time and if the circumstances were different she might have smiled down at her with that kindness she had developed working with children her age. It was then that she realised just how much she would miss her line of work, knowing that she perhaps wouldn’t be able to go back to it now that she was no longer in control of her life. That thought almost made her feel sick. She had worked so hard to gain control again to have to relinquish it to another man. This time it would be to keep her alive rather than to control her because he simply liked to control women.
Her eyes then moved on to Bradley. He was nothing like what she expected to find at her door. She thought that he might be older and look a little rougher around the edges but this man was the exact opposite of who she expected to find at her door and she was already beginning to regret her decision to ask for his protection. When Roslyn asked for him, she had no idea that he had a life like this and she was responsible for pulling him away from that. Guilt ridden, she watched as he told the young girl to play in the living room and within a matter of seconds he grabbed at her arm and started to lead her into the kitchen. He might have noticed the way that she flinched at his touch but she adjusted her thoughts to tell her that he wasn’t doing so to harm her.
When they arrived in the kitchen he let the door shut and he let go of her arm before getting down to business very quickly. She didn’t have the right words to respond to him so she simply nodded, knowing that he shouldn’t be here helping her, that he should be home looking after his daughter but it was her fault he was here now.
It was still hard to hear anyone speak of what happened to her and that was partly why she had moved to a place where no one knew her. She couldn’t bare to think about what had happened and what she had lost so to have to relive that all now and explain exactly what happened was going to be one of the most painful things she had experienced in a long time. However, she obliged, taking the seat and looking at the picture of the man who had once rules her life, a man who had claimed he would take hers when he had the chance. She pulled her eyes away from the picture and looked up at Bradley.
[b “I took a letter to the neighbour. It had gotten in with our mail accidentally and it would only take me a minute to walk it over there and I thought that I would be able to do it before he got home but...but he got home early that day and saw me walking from his door to our own and I could see it in his eyes before we even got into the house. He started to accuse me of sleeping with the neighbour and called me a hundred different names before he grabbed the knife from the counter. He then started to accuse me of sleeping with other people, that his baby wasn’t actually his baby at all and that I didn’t deserve to live if I could betray him in that way. The moment I saw the knife I ran to the bedroom and I managed to make a phone call but I didn’t have chance to finish it before he burst into the room. I thought that he had been successful, that I was going to die in that room and that no one would know what had happened to me.”] She took a breath and wiped at the tears that were falling out of her eyes now and she looked down at her hands folded in her lap. [b “He took the knife and thrust it into my chest. I had lost consciousness and that much blood that my body was no longer strong enough to keep my baby alive.”]
At that point she was no longer able to continue talking. Hopefully Bradley got what he needed from that and she could take some time to gather herself again before she had to speak of anything else. She was sure that he had all this information in the files so she didn’t know why she had to relive it again but it if was part of his process she would follow it.
[font "Georgia" As the minutes slowly ticked by, he was getting more and more annoyed. He didn't understand why he was feeling like this, but he was. He shook his head lightly and when the door opened, he was surprised to see the beautiful woman standing there before him. He felt Rosie grip onto his hand, and he looked down at her, before he led her into the house. He nodded at the woman, as she shut the door behind them. He then knelt down in front of his daughter, and slid the back pack off her shoulders, and looked into her eyes.]
[font "Georgia" [#ADD8E6 "Daddy, and this nice woman have to go into the kitchen for a little bit. I want you to stay in the living room, and color for a little while. Uncle Andrew will be here soon, and when he does come, I want you to let me know. Okay baby?"] he said softly. The child looked around him to the woman, and then back at her father. [#FFB6C1 "Yes daddy.."] she said softly. The male kissed her forehead, and handed the bag to her. She took it, and walked into the living room.]
[font "Georgia" He watched to make sure, she was okay, before he stood and took the woman's arm, and led her into her own kitchen. For some reason he already knew the house like the back of his hand. He let the woman go, and made sure the swinging door closed behind them. He then looked at the woman, and crossed his arms over his chest. [#ADD8E6 "Seeing as you insisted on me, and I wouldn't allow anyone knowing I had a child, I will hold you accountable for anything that happens to her. Do you understand me?"] he snapped at the woman.]
[font "Georgia" He wasn't meaning to sound rude, or cold but he wasn't about to play games with her. He sighed lightly and reached up rubbing his face. [#ADD8E6 "My trusted friend, and partner will be here a about fifteen to twenty minutes. I want you to start telling me everything I need to know, about the man that tried to kill you, and about the man that killed you baby"] he said, as he reached for another back pack on his shoulders. He slid the straps off his shoulders, and placed the bag onto the table top.]
[font "Georgia" He then proceed with taking out folders about the woman, and about the man she had been with all those years ago. He was surprised that Andrew had everything ready for him, but he didn't care at all. He placed one of the folders onto the table, and opened it. He then pulled out some pictures of the male and her taken years ago. She had been pretty back then too, now though, she was breath taking and he had a feeling he was going to get distracted, and he didn't like that feeling at all.]
[font "Georgia" He pointed to the pictures and then pulled out a chair, and sat down. [#ADD8E6 "Take a seat, and start talking. My partner will come in, and then I'll catch him up, when I feel he needs to be caught up"] he said lightly. He crossed his arms over his chest, and let the silence wash over the two of them. He wanted to hear her side of the story, and he was going to get it, one way or another.]
Ugly. Worthless. Unlovable.
Roslyn has been so used to hearing those three words over the last year. While they were words that no one would ever associate with the woman, they were three words she believed of herself because of her boyfriend. A boyfriend that had been emotionally abusing her for twelve months to the point that she now believed those things about herself and that’s why she stayed with him, even when the abuse got worse. Believing those things meant that she did not think that anyone else, not even her family, would want her in their lives. After all, they never called her or even came by the house. What she didn’t know was that they had called plenty of times but she had never been the one to answer the calls. After the first month of living together, he stopped her from answering the phone or the door. He controlled everything and she had no idea how much he had been controlling.
Up until this day, he had never laid a hand on her in violence. He had perhaps been a little rough when he had taken her to bed or he had grabbed her a little too hard when he wanted her to look at him when he was talking to her but he had never so much as hit her before. Things were different now. Roslyn had never seen him so angry in his life. She did not do anything to deserve what was happening to her now but his rage was blinding and he could not see that she had done nothing wrong and because she had no voice with him, there was no way that she could reason with him.
Her eyes were stained red with the tears that had fallen as they stood in the kitchen, him screaming in her face, so close that she could feel his hot breath against her skin. Roslyn was not safe and she knew that from the moment he stepped into the house that night. Tonight would be the first time he laid a hand on her and she was not sure that she was strong enough to survive it.
The male’s hand thrust forward and closed around her neck, squeezing what little oxygen she had gathered in there. [+green “You betrayed me. I told you that you are mine and no one else’s and you jump at our neighbour. I have given you everything. I’ve given you a home, I’ve given you a life and this is how you repay me.”] His voice was harsh and spit found her face as he pummelled his fist into the wall beside her. [+green “You are such an ungrateful bitch. How am I supposed to feel knowing that you have been near him. Is this baby even mine?!”] He asked slamming his fist into the wall again.
Tears streamed down her face and she coughed as he released her throat long enough for her to reply. [b “I was just taking a letter over there. I swear. It had come through the wrong door and I was just returning it. I know I should have let you do it. I’m sorry. I promise it will never happen again. Of course this baby is yours. I love only you.”] Even as she said the words, she knew that they were not true. She hadn’t loved him for a very long time. She had felt trapped and when he got her pregnant she wanted to run but who could she run to when no one wanted her? A fist came down on her face when she finished speaking and she cried out in pain. [b “Please, you have to believe me.”]
A second blow. [+green “You are a liar!”] He moved away from her to grab a knife from the drawer and her eyes widened. She had no other choice but to run. He was smart though. The doors had been locked and there was no way out for her. [+green “How dare you run from me!”] He shouted after her as she ran up the stairs, grabbing the phone from the hallway and locking herself in the bedroom. He was stronger than she was and he would break the door down quickly, but perhaps it would hold him long enough for her to phone the police. Her breathing was heavy and her hands were shaking as she dialled the number and held the phone to her ear. The bang on the door startled her and she let out a scared scream as she heard a voice at the end of the phone.
[b “Please come quick...my boyfriend has a knife. I’m pregnant. I can’t lose this baby. I just can’t.”] She couldn’t hold back the tears as she cried down the phone. The woman asked for the address and she relayed it back to her but before she could finish the door burst open and she dropped the phone. [b “Michael please. I didn’t. I swear.”] As she backed up on the floor her back hit the bed and the male slowed as he approached her.
[+green “You don’t deserve me, or this baby.”] He said as his foot collided with her face so that she fell flat in the floor. He leaned down and grabbed her hair pulling it tightly. She was already feeling dazed at this point. His face was blurry and she couldn’t understand his words but she knew was what happening when he straddled her, holding a knife to her throat and taking off his belt. She was entirely numb and her eyes were beginning to grow heavy, heavier still when he had finished and plunged the knife into her chest. She screamed out in pain one last time before consciousness escaped her. Roslyn might have heard the faint sound of sirens in the background if she hadn’t already lost consciousness.
Several years has passed since that moment. Somehow Roslyn had managed to survive but that did not mean that all of her had. There was a part of her that mourned her loss everyday and even though she had moved on with her life, she was not entirely happy. Roslyn found if hard to trust, especially men and whenever she tried to date she freaked out and had to end the date early. This was her punishment for not taking her baby and running the moment she found out she had been pregnant all those years ago. She would forever feel guilty about that. Over the years she had built herself up again, trying to make a life for herself in a new town where no one knew her. She hadn’t even been able to face her family after the incident but that was all behind her now, a ghost of her past that she never wished to relive again.
Little did she know that the ghost would be coming back to haunt her soon.
Roslyn had trained to become a teacher; a job she had always wanted and it made her happy but she knew that happiness wouldn’t last forever, especially when her phone rang before she went to work one morning. Her life was about to change again.
[+green “Hello princess. You thought you could escape me didn’t you?”] A sickening laugh came from the other side of the phone and Roslyn was frozen with fear. [+green “I know where you are Roslyn. I’ve been behaving so well so I can come and see you again. Finish you off.”] With the she dropped the phone and started to panic. She couldn’t stay here and she wasn’t able to protect herself. She knew exactly what she needed to do.
The knock at the door had pulled her out of the memory of the phone call. He was here. She had asked for protection and that protection was now on the other side of the door. It worries her to meet him, knowing that she had been so insistent. Roslyn had pulled this mine from his life but she really couldn’t see any other option. She rose from the sofa and nervously opened the door. Initially her eyes fell on Bradley. He was not at all what she had expected but something else caught her eye, or rather, someone else. The last thing she wanted was for him to bring a child into this and if she would have known that he had a child, she would have settled for someone else. She swallowed hard, feeling guilty and stepped aside to let them him.

[font "Georgia" It seemed like the male had barely gotten to sleep, when the sound of Rosie screaming made the male jump out of bed. He barely missed running into the desk chair, and made a mental note to push it in at night. When he ran down the hall, and into his daughter's room his head was hammering. He pushed the door open, and walked inside. [#ADD8E6 "What's wrong baby girl?"] he asked as he moved over to her side. The child looked up and hiccuped a little. [#FFB6C1 "I want mommy.."] she whimpered, breaking the male's heart.]
[font "Georgia" [#ADD8E6 "I know you do baby, but mommy's not here anymore, remember? It's just you and I against the world little one"] he said lightly as he knelt down and pulled her into his lap. The child curled up against his chest and nodded a little. She hiccuped again, and started sucking her thumb. It was like a safety blanket for her. He wrapped his arms around her tightly, and started rocking her back and forth slowly. She started to calm down, and slowly but surely she started falling asleep in his arms as he rocked her.]
[font "Georgia" When the male knew his little girl was sound asleep, he moved her to her bed, and laid her down. He pulled the covers over her little body, leaned down and kissed her forehead. [#ADD8E6 "I love you so much baby girl, it'll get easier I promise you"] he whispered to the sleeping girl. She didn't even stir, and it made him feel slightly better. He sighed a little as he stood and walked out of the room, shutting the door behind him quietly. He then went back to his own room, pushed the chair in and sat down.]
[font "Georgia" The male sat there with his head in his hands. Everything seemed to be going wrong. Ever since he found out his ex wife had been cheating on him, and that their daughter was in the house when she did made it that much more worse. He sighed as he lifted his head, and looked at the picture on the nightstand. [#ADD8E6 "I hate you, you've made this family fall apart. Not me"] he breathed as he stood and put the picture down. He then picked it up, and took the picture out of the frame.]
[font "Georgia" He ripped the picture into a ton of tiny pieces and threw them away. He wasn't about to let her run his life. There was no way in hell. She had made him quit the one job he loved the most. He had done everything in his power to make her happy, but it was all for nothing. He sighed lightly as he moved back over to the bed. He slid into the bed and pulled the blankets up over him. He laid there looking into the darkness. He didn't understand why Mackenzie had done it, he paid a lot of attention to her.]
[font "Georgia" He sighed again, as he rolled onto his side. He shut his eyes and willed sleep to come. He knew it wouldn't, and that Rosie would be up in two hours. If he could get two hours of sleep he'd be fine. He laid there with his eyes closed, and pretty soon his breathing slowed towards sleep, and he let the blackness consume him. He didn't dream, he just slept. That's all he wanted was sleep, and that's what he did. His whole world was a mess, but sleep took that all away.]
[center [b [font "Georgia" [u Eight A.M.]]]]
[font "Georgia" The sound of his bedroom door slowly opening made the male smirk. He'd been up for the past ten minutes, and he laid there waiting for Rosie to enter. Sure enough right at eight o'clock the door started to open. The sound of little feet trying to be quiet made the male smile. He closed his eyes and pretended to still be sleeping. It was their little game. That's when he felt little hands grab the blanket and a little body on the edge of the bed. [#FFB6C1 "One... Two... Three..."] the sound of her little voice, and then laughter.]
[font "Georgia" The male jumped out of the blankets, and grabbed the giggling child and started to tickle her. The sound of her laughing made the male smile. He loved her laugh so much. [#ADD8E6 "What do you say?"] he asked as he kept tickling her. [#FFB6C1 "Uncle Daddy! Uncle!"] she shrieked with laughter. The male smirked, and stopped the tickling, and then set her on the bed between his legs. [#ADD8E6 "Looks like I win this time"] he said, as the child stuck her tongue out at him, and he laughed poking her nose.]
[font "Georgia" [#ADD8E6 "Are you ready for breakfast baby girl?"] he asked her, as she slung her arms around his neck and nodded. [#FFB6C1 "Yes I am, can I have toast with jam please?"] she asked. The male nodded and covered her in kisses [#ADD8E6 "Of course you can, let's go"] he said. The child smiled and kissed his nose, before she rolled off of the bed and walked out of the room, her hips moving in a sassy way. He shook his head, and knew he was going to have trouble when she hit her teen years.]
[font "Georgia" The two walked into the kitchen together, and Rosie climbed onto a stool, and Bradley went to the pantry and pulled out the bread. He popped a couple pieces into the toaster, and pulled out the jam and juice. He set them both on the counter, and then turned to face his toddler. [#ADD8E6 "What do you say after we eat, and get showered we spend the day at the park?"] he asked hiding a grin. The way the child's face light up he knew she was going to say yes. [#FFB6C1 "Can we really daddy?"] she asked bouncing.]
[font "Georgia" [#ADD8E6 "Of course baby girl. Let's eat, and get showered and everything first"] he said as the toast popped up. Rosie had a huge grin on her face as she at her breakfast, and downed her juice. Then the two went to shower, and get ready to go. It was something he would miss when she got older, so he took this time to spend it with her as much as he could. Even though Mackenzie was trying to ruin it for them both. He wasn't about to let that happen though.]
[font "Georgia" When they were both ready to go, he packed up a cooler of drinks, and snacks. He knew they would be home around noon to get some lunch, and down for nap. It was going to be a fun day, he could tell. [#ADD8E6 "You ready baby girl?"] he asked as he tied his shoes, and looked towards her. [#FFB6C1 "Yes daddy, let's go!"] she said as she did up her own shoes. The two walked out to the car, cooler in hand. It was going to be a beautiful day, and it was going to be a semi hot one too.]

[font "Georgia" As the day seemed to drag on for the male, he was glad that Rosie was enjoying herself. She had made a couple of friends, and when she fell off a swing and started to cry, he knew it was time to get home. It was close enough to noon anyway. By the time they got home, it would be time to eat and lie down. He walked over and picked up the child. [#ADD8E6 "It's okay baby, super daddy is here"] he said as he kissed her tears away. The small child smiled a little as she was carried to the car.]
[font "Georgia" The male put her into the car and buckled her up. He made sure the cooler was inside the trunk before he slid into the car himself. He started the car, backed out of the parking spot and headed home. He looked into the mirror and saw that she was starting to fall asleep. He sighed lightly and knew she would be out in less than a minute. He looked back at the road, and started to sing her a lullaby he grew up on, and she smiled lightly.]
[font "Georgia" When the male pulled into the driveway, he spotted an envelope sitting by his door. He cocked his head to the side, and shut the car off. He then climbed out and went around to Rosie's side of the car. He unbuckled her, and carried her into the house. He left the envelope on the porch. He would get it in a minute. Right now he had to lay Rosie down, and then get something in his stomach. Though his mind was wandering back to the envelope, he had to know what it was, and why.]
[font "Georgia" When he walked out, and sat on the front steps, he was about to open it when his phone started to ring. He pulled it out slowly, and looked at the caller ID. It was Mackenzie, and he groaned lightly. He wanted to ignore it, but he knew if he did she would blow up his phone. He sighed a bit as he answered. [#ADD8E6 "Hello Mackenzie, I was wondering when you'd be calling"] he said. [#98FB98 "Don't be a fucking smart ass. Where's Rosie, I wanna talk to her"] she snapped at the male, and he smirked.]

[font "Georgia" Bradley sighed, and knew that he had to do this. He had to get away from Mackenzie, and keep Rosie away from her. He sighed lightly as he put everything back into the envelope, and carried it inside. He packed up everything he would need, got Rosie up, fed and ready to go. She was crying about not wanting to leave, but they had too. He called his old friend, told him he would do it, and then was on the next plane in an hour. Now that he was back in the game, he felt horrible.]

[font "Georgia" When the plane landed it was six at night, and Bradley had gotten the address he needed for Roslyn's place. Rosie had slept most of the flight, which was a good thing. He didn't have to worry about her asking so many questions about why they had to leave home. Right now he had to focus on getting a rental car, along with getting them both food. When the male got off the plane with his daughter in his arms, he spotted the car and smiled. [#ADD8E6 "Thank's Drew"] he said softly, as he packed Rosie inside.]
[font "Georgia" He slid into the drivers seat, and pulled away from the curb. He drove slowly trying to find something to eat. When he spotted a McDonald's, he pulled into the parking lot and went through the drive thru. They were only ten minutes away from the woman's house, so he had enough time to get food. He then pulled back onto the road, and Rosie was in the back eating her dinner, and staying really quiet. He shook his head and knew she was confused. He didn't know how to explain it to her either.]
[font "Georgia" When the male pulled up to the front of the house, he took a breath, finished his hamburger and made sure Rosie was done as well. He then climbed out, and got her out. They walked up the front steps hand in hand, and he rang the bell. [#ADD8E6 "Alright baby, daddy has to help this woman. We aren't going home for a while, but I have everything you need. I promise once I get this woman help we will go home"] he said. The child nodded and looked down as tears formed in her eyes.]
[font "Georgia" The male shook his head, as his temper started to rise. He was pissed at this woman, and he'd never even met her. He raised his hand and rang the bell. He stood there with Rosie's hand in his, and waited for her to answer the door. His world was being turned upside down again, and he didn't like it. Rosie didn't like it either, and he didn't blame her. He looked at the door, and heard the lock being unlocked, and he narrowed his eyes. He kept his mouth shut, and would wait to rip into the woman when they were alone.]
[font "Georgia" He squared his shoulders back, and Rosie sniffled, and then he looked at the door as it opened.]
