Kane stopped and without a warning he pulled her into a hard kiss, smiling for real for the first time that day. “I’ve been waiting to do that, and you can’t deny that you feel it too, it’s driving me insane and I know she’s a good nanny, Ava is Happy and I’m still alive, seems like a win win but she gets one day off a week and today happens to be that day.”
"Your nanny is impressive, Kane. I may need her on days off and it's all Netflix binges and attempts to burn down my kitchen," Iris smiled. "Don't worry, I won't cook in yours. Enjoy yourself."
She couldn't help but kiss his cheek. Maybe she'd get lucky and the television would do the rest. Google would help her to an extent though. "Well, remember to give that adorable smile and have fun."
Kane rolled his eyes, “Got it. Do you hate that song as much as I do?” He asked out of no where. It was obvious that even with the nanny, Kane was on his last nerve. He was a dad before but he was never cut out for all of this but he was trying. He would never abandon her and she still cried every night because of her mom. It broke his heart as he hadn’t she’s a tear of Shelby.
This was there, and that, and all while giving personal time to the star. The first few weeks had been an easy time and now proved to be far more difficult to do so. The strange chill didn't help, either, not that she had time to fixate on it either.
Friday she felt like she could sleep for a week, instead she wound up at his house as a charity event wanted him to come and the nanny wasn't available.
"So...just follow these guidelines and we'll be okay?" She asked Kane. hearing the sound of Micky Mouse Clubhouse in the background. She hated the sound of it just through a few notes.
Kane nodded, "When your ready... I'll be waiting.." He said and kissed her temple gently. "I'm sorry for whatever I caused you." He picked Ava up in his arms and sat down at the table, not making eye contact with Iris the entire meeting. He felt something for her, more than just friends but she didn't seem to feel the same way and he had a daughter... something he knew she didn't like.
"We kissed? I must've have drank more than I thought..." Iris rubbed her temple. She remembered dancing, the car and two parts of the movie. She looked to him and sighed. "I don't want a serious relationship right now. I want to work stupid hours, take thr middle of the bed and meaningless shit. Date people I won't remember. Maybe some nights I'll regret. On top of that, I'll be going back to school for management."
She never focused on herself seriously. This was now Iris time.
Kane sighed, "I need to talk to you and it would be great if you could turn off the work for a minute." Ava was showing his tour manager her teddy and Kane was watching her and he handed Iris his phone, showing her a video from that night. "Tell me that we can't be more after watching this and I'll stop." In the video they looked happy and perfect and were kissing.
"I'll help you find one," Iris walked over and hugged him lightly before stepping back. Professional but friends, not like that night where it had blurred the boundaries. "Sometimes that happens. As long as she grows up happy, and loved with discipline. I turned out okay even with all of my mom and dad with everything."
She smiled to Ava. She wasn't sure exactly what to do but would help as she could.
Kane showed up for the tour breifing with Ava in tow, she was dragging a build a bear teddy and clinging to his hand. Ava saw Iris and smiled, the little girl was doing better after a few days with her dad. "First thing.... I need a nanny." he muttered to Iris looking at her with pleading eyes. "I can't do this alone, I don't even know how to do this alone."
"I'm a little jetlagged, there's a few hours difference and Kenny's adding to my workload. It's only been a week with her, maybe take her to the park or something outside. I'll see you tomorrow for the tour briefing."
It was for the better, right? Yawning she pulled out something frozen. Food, shower, sleep and that he'll week would begin. A month tour, and pre CMA. She hated to think what album time felt like.
Kane sighed, "Iris... please." He muttered into the phone, "I've had nothing but Jojo Siwa and Disney for the last four days, I need some human interaction thats not with a four year old." he said disappointed. He didn't dare push his luck and ask her out. "Its not like we can leave, the whole laying low thing prevents that so we're just cooped up here and my dog is hers now."
"Thanks, it's good to have sun again. Kim's working it out. No public appearances, even if it's just hanging out for a while. I'm agreeing with her. We're friends but I still work under the manager."
Did she dare risk that line again?
"I don't know if that's a good idea, right now, Kane." She answered biting her cheek. That line should have been drawn a while back, she just didn't see it.
Kane smiled seeing her name light up on his phone, "Ava and I are making pizza tonight, want to come over, watch a movie, talk about how we are going to deal with the press? about your trip and how much I missed you? Plus you can tell me how bad I did with her room... granted she helped and picked out most of it... have you ever heard of a Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty? because I hadn't."
"Nothing is going to happen and.. that means being a mom...no thank you," Iris shook her head. Settling down was okay, children just bothered her even before her mistake. She was a little broken. Maybe that girl would partially change her mind.
Portland was refreshing and she decided she'd go back to school. At least she could go on more dates with available dad joke guy. She couldn't be defined by the this. When she returned she already began to apply at schools and started pre-CMA season.
"I'm back, just got busy looking at new places and schools," she said while putting groceries away.
"He just saved mine, tell him I owe him." Kane said sighing, "Thank you and I miss you darlin', call me when you get back, I put a emergency plane ticket credit on your account, use it when you see fit." With that h hung up.
"So thats Kane?" One of her dad's asked as they sat at the table. "He said he had a daughter? Shes 4 now?"
Kane was struggling but the tips helped and Ava seemed to know what she liked.
