Kane sighed, "We had a scare... I remember thinking... I'd give up everything and get another job if we were having a baby and then you weren't pregnant and it scared me so much that I wanted it that bad." He hugged her and sighed, "I love you and always will." He said looking to her, "Like I said, come back to me...please."

"Kane, we were in high school. How the hell did we know what we wanted or who? If I stayed with you I wouldn't want to have kids in the first place. Who knows what would have happened?" Iris said before nodding after him. "They had fun today, and I did too. Before they go this week we all will have to do something again."
She nodded and slowly rose and gave him a hug. "It's been nice to have outside friends again."
Kane sighed, “It wasn’t moving on from Rebecca that’s the problem, it’s moving on from you. First love or not you know that I still have feelings for you even all these years later.” He looked to her and said, “I should get going, I’ve bugged y’all enough for the day, I bet your girls never want to see me again after taking their phones for the day, but I had fun.”
"We were each other's, first love. It's sort of something that you think about when you talk about the good old days. It's a good thing," she said looking to him and smiled. Accepting the kiss, she liked how it felt, before letting out a breath. "Maybe you will someday. There's a lot of widowers that move on, trust me."
She started to rise. Right now it was easy to revisit those old feelings and want to go back but knew she couldn't.
"Do you still love me?" he asked looking to her and continued, "I'm not trying to break up a marriage or anything... but if you ever find yourself single or needing someone... for me... it was always you." He muttered taking her hand and bringing it to his lips so he could kiss the back of it. "I married Rebecca for the same reason you married your husband, you love him but it never replaced that feeling and then she wanted kids and then she was gone. I'll never have kids of my own now and I know that... its just hard to accept."
"They have six more days, I'll be here for another week after that. It will be sad, but we can stay in contact, at least," Iris smiled. If David had a problem than she would just say get used to it.
Cyril and Abby went in readily and right to the room without even so much of a fight.
Sitting on the porch she smiled to him. "I still love him, you know. It's changed but...I still feel the same. He may not. He never replaced what we had, it was just different."
Kane nodded, “Let them know tomorrow that their phones weren’t really off the whole time, just in the center console of the truck. I wasn’t about to leave everyone out by the river without a means of contact if there was an emergency. I’m glad y’all had a good day, I just wish you were staying longer.” He said reaching for her hand to bring it to his lips and kiss the back of it.
"It's been a while. God, how long has it been, Abby?" Iris looked over to him for a second, feeling some color to her face before she looked back.
"Oh, when we went to that cabin in Washington," Abby said cheerfully. "Dad was so covered in mosquito bites he itched for a whole week."
Rubbing the ring she sighed.
The girls were half dead on the ride to her dads' house. She looked to Kane leaning back into the seat. "This has been a fun day. We all needed this day."
Kane smiled at Iris who was looking up at the stars, he had never seen someone more beautiful. “It’s beautiful out here tonight.” He said looking to her and the girls noticed he was talking about her and not the Stars. He was a gentleman, he hadn’t kissed her or made a move towards her, she was married and he wasn’t the kind of guy to break up a marriage.
"I never really did go to college. Tried acting in California, that didn't work out, but I did enjoy theatre. Got into writing for a blog and it worked out for a side, then I met David and then those beautiful girls," Cyril said cheerfully. "It's been amazing. But I have missed this."
When did she have friends of her own other than the few? She was beginning to think twice about everything and it wasn't a happy feeling. With the stars out she settled back in to the blanket, not that cold with her jacket on.
“We wanted different things in life but we broke up and stayed friends...” kane said smiling, “she went to college and I moved to nashville to follow some crazy dream and that dream turned into my career...now I can slow down and take a step back from everything.” He was telling the truth they had parted on good terms and stayed friends after, even after the pregnancy scare in high school and Kane telling her that he would marry her right then.
Boy, was she glad when this day was done. The girls were worn out and even if it was sandwiches, chips, and other unhealthy foods that David had stopped eating. She was glad to be having this free time off. Sitting in the back of the truck, she had waited for the sunset to happen.
"Are we almost done?" Abby asked looking to Kane. Going without her phone was killing her.
"Just need to wait for the stars to come out and then we can go home," Iris said shrugging on a light jacket.
"Why did you two break up?" Cyril asked curiously.
Iris looked to Kane, unsure what to answer, the teenage answer didn't work anymore.
Kane followed and chuckled, smiling again, those girls had a way of doing that to him. "Ya'll want to pet one?" he asked knowing that they could even feed them if they wanted to. He knew they hadn't been excited when they got there but now was a totally different story. Kane motioned to one of the workers and asked him where they could feed the reindeer and he said, "When they're done here I can take you there."
Iris slowly nodded trying to process that. She had approved articles like that, she gave a soft sigh. Placing a hand on his she didn't have time to reply before Cyril ran out to grab her hand.
"Mom! You have to see this!" Cyril exclaimed.
"Okay, okay, I'm coming!" She laughed following the excited girl. It was baby reindeers that had them so excited.
Kane nodded, "I still see her everywhere... everytime I think of something or see our old friends and I'm alone. Its so hard. I miss her... the kicker is we found out she had the cancer because we couldn't concieve... then a month before she passed... we found out she was pregnant. By some miracle it had happened... so I lost them both." he shook his head, "I've never told anyone that, not even her parents.... they blame me for her death."
