Kane looked at his phone, that was his day with Ava, "I can't..." He muttered knowing it would irritate her, "Well...wait... where is this game?" He could take her... he had never taken his daughter anywhere but he didn't want to keep canceling on her and on other people. She was almost 4 and in 4 years he had never missed a visit. He had never missed anything with Ava, even if he and her mother, Shelby, didn't get along.
"Food sounds amazing. I may be tiny but love food and coffee," she grinned to him, holding her own coffee she nodded. "That doesn't wake you up, I'm going to need to reconsider my last few years. Anyway, you have fifteen to get ready and I need to prepare to clean up the over scheduling."
She looked at the device again. "Oh, and in two weeks on Friday for a big homecoming came and they'd like for you to be a guest of honor for the baseball game. That's actually pretty exciting."
the next day Kane was there at the radio station bright and early, not really too happy about it. He took the coffee smiling, "Thank you darlin'... I need it.... maybe after we can get breakfast. Kenny and I usually do but that asshole didn't show up today." Kane knew Kenny didn't want to come to something this early and thats why he had gotten an assistant.
"No need for melodrama, the weekend is all clear now. I'll see you tomorrow with what I call nuclear coffee. It worked for my detective ex when he was working a case," she rose and smiled. "Glad to work with you. Sorry I didn't accept before, stuff happened here so here I am."
Maybe this time through terrible would not happen. Her dad wasn't thrilled with that choice but maybe she'd make it right.
Kane nodded, 'Better... I just have to go next weekend no matter what." he was nervous. His daughter was turning 4 and he couldn't explain to her that he couldn't miss it. It was a princess party and he had made a promise to his little girl that he would be there... he was her favorite person in the world. "I have a promise I can't break." He muttered looking at his phone background, him and his little girl.
"Two weekends a month. This weekend free, maybe extra days. See what we can do next weekend, and next weekend free. And see about combing these days so there's more time to unwind. Can't have you going insane," Iris teased with a smile. Switching some slots around she showed it to him.
"Good?" She asked, proud of herself. It would help them all out, but when recording happened that'd be a pain.
Kane nodded, "Where is the big event because I'll have to leave right after, I can't miss going to Georgia." He muttered. He had made a promise to a 4 year old princess that he couldn't break. Not that he could tell her that. Just telling her and Kenny that he had to go to Georgia made him nervous. His ex girlfriend kept their secret safe and out of the public eye... if someone knew about her... well she couldn't grow up normally.
"I'll leave you two to work out the details," Kenny said, starting out the door.
She sat down and looked to the schedule. "It's too late to reschedule the radio, I do happen to know some good, strong coffee. Without coffee in Portland and Seattle they would be zombies. I haven't had a sunburn in four years, though."
She couldn't do much for this week since it was Wednesday. "We may be able to combine these interviews so you'd have Thrusdsy through Sunday free. Not next week, some big event that Friday. See, we worked together anyway."
Kane nodded, "I have to go to Georgia on Friday and I won't be back until Sunday... its not negotiable." he said not elaborating on why. He sighed and looked to Kenny, "Man you have to stop scheduling things so early in the morning. I just got back from Georgia last night and you scheduled me for that radio interview first thing this morning, I don't even think I was awake for half of it." Kenny shrugged, "maybe you should bring whatever your going to in Georgia every weekend to Nashville and you wouldn't have that problem." Kane shook his head, "Can't Kenny."
"More like she keeps my schedule and objectives while I take care of the big parts," Kenny gently teased. "A good bridge. I thought she looked like a teenager but ends up she's a terrifying terrier."
Iris gave a small grin, she looked mostly professional but without the jacket and skirt. She went to get the coffee.
"I already got the schedule and fixed it, don't worry," she said bringing some coffee for them, as well.
Kane chuckled seeing her, "Just a disclaimer, I'm not and I'm always late... so... your my new manager's assistant now... which means your basically my assistant?" he asked with a smirk. "I'm not available two weekends a month." he said putting it out there. "I prefer all my weekends but I know I have to keep working." His manager didn't even know about his secret back in Georgia.
"That's okay, I'm good right now," Iris smiled, wondering partially why she was doing that. Pulling out her phone she glanced to the time and then judged the time of day. She almost thought on this before deciding her life, aside from dating, was perfect.
"Good luck with everything, Kane," she took her heels off before starting to go. A cousin already had agreed to take her to the hotel and then airport. She said goodbye first to some family.
She didn't think that four months later, she'd actually be moving to Nashville but her mom needed her and Britt was pregnant. She had a decent apartment and got a job at a record label as an assistant. It was throwing dream job and good salary.
Kenny called her back to meet what would be her project, and it was none other than Kane.
"Well, this is a small world. Ends up I'll be working with you anyway," Iris grinned. "Just as a disclaimer, I'm particular about schedules."
"I'll triple your salary." he said looking to her. It was a last ditch effort. He wanted this girl in Nashville... even if she was just his assistant and friend. He hadn't had someone that he clicked with for in forever and he would enjoy having a friend... that is if she said yes. He didn't even know what she was paid but that didn't matter to him.
"It's not because of the flirting, is it?" Iris asked. Three song had ended she stood there, likely awkward, this was nice though. "I don't think so, though. I like what I do and my crappy apartment. Portland is my home now."
Smiling to him she squeezed his arm. "It was great to meet you and thank you for making country enjoyable again..I need to go and start getting ready for my flight."
"Its good pay and I'll pay your moving expenses... I just click with you and I've been looking for that in an assistant." he muttered as they danced. He was flirting but in all seriousness he did need an assistant to handle his affairs and cover for him when he had to go to Georgia on the weekends. It was getting harder and harder to hide for him the more famous he got.
