The man knew that he should not have been amused with her words but as always she said the unexpected. "No I would never let you stay away. Perhaps even drag you back kicking and screaming." He couldn't help saying the words or giving her a smirk. The sad part to his words was even if it sounded like he was joking, he truly had not been. Without her, Nik could and would very easily end up losing what was left of his humanity. She was the one to keep him grounded.
Her hand had found it's way to his leg and the young woman leaned in and kissed him. It being something he wanted and had alreasy grown to love, Klaus returned her kiss. It in his way was another form of saying he loved her.
A sane person would have someone they cared for as emotional support. Kenna was not a sane person, there was edges and holes that made up her being.
What would someone without all these flaws do. And how she said in a round about way, said she loved him.
"Somehow I doubt you'd let me despite how much I'd curse you out," Kenna said dryly before she placed her hand on his leg. Leaning she kissed him softly.
"Seems we both have perhaps only one person who can put up with us enough to try and knock some sense into is." The man said quietly as he was still watching the view. From the way they both seemed to admire it, that only added to the plan of painting it one day soon. Perhaps a going away gift for her even.
Slowly he looked to her as she began to speak again. He could hear what she said, but the fact remained that he still did feel hurt and like in a sense he would lose her. How was he to voice that with being as horrible with letting himself show his emotions as he was? But somehow it seemed she did know that was what happened to be on his mind.
"Well it's good to know that I don't have to worry about you staying away.. and that my feelings aren't returned." He said, giving a weak smile to the girl.
"I won't be alone. I'll have my Elijah there. She's five foot two and probably the only person who knocks sense into me so far," Kenna sat down admiring the view. It was peaceful, and she loved the view, from the old trees to the view of the town.
It was touching how he wanted to be there, keep her from harm. "This is just something I need to do without...this world interfering. Then I'm coming back here. And I'm not leaving you, just need to get my bearings. I feel the same about you."
When Kenna had left them, as always Elijah was trying to be the levelheaded of the two. The man was telling him how poorly that he had handled things and how Kenna could take care of herself. His brother even went as far as to give the "if you love someone set them free and if they love you they will return" lecture. All of it, Nik listened to as it was not the firsr, nor would it be the last time he had heard it. That did not stop him from going off and threatening Elijah with the daggers though.
It was awhile later and the man was sitting upon the porch and watching as the sun set and all the colours washed over the grounds. It was a sight and something he was considering to paint. He had heard Kenna come up but did not look her way until she spoke.
"Facing family can be the hardest thing in the world. Believe me I would know that. The part of you going alone is what I cannot understand." He was trying to be calmer now as she also seemed to be.
That seemed too easy. Kenna walked back out keeping the bottle in hand. Another aspect they had in common was imploding in all the wrong ways. Of course she called the repair people first, trying to find an excuse for the damage.
Finally sitting on a bench by the pool she called Trish skipping the pleasantries. Making it quick, she thought this was the madness. Wanting to talk to the woman who fucked up her life.
Finding Nik a while later she sighed.
"I'm not going back to live there. Soarse...she's going to be beautiful again, and I've never made anything beautiful before," Kenna ran a hand through her hair. "I want to go alone to...find out more from Jenny and talk to Eddie, my old step dad. I'd rather face those witches than talk to Jenny
If the man spoke now he would completely go off and even say things he would regret. It was worse when it came to her because he did love her and truly cared about what happened to her. The fact that she couldn't see it had Nik's temper more than boiling over to the case of his nails digging into his palms.
"Very well.." He said as calmly and evenly as he could. This was not how he wanted for this to go.
Nik noticed Elijah and that dark gaze on him. It was one that told him he was pushing things and needed to back off. "Well if you are so confident, why don't you be the one to talk to her. Perhaps she will listen to you."
This was a full on debate, nearing argument. It was also getting old. For the rest of the her days would they always be there. That thought both made her feel weird and pissed her off.
She hadn't mentioned what the woman said, and yet it was not the concern.
"How do you know that's not the plan? First...my personal drama...because if I learned anything from your family is that those skeletons become your weakness," Kenna answered calmly. "Wow...is that what you think? Yeah, well, that's not the case. I'm going to go now and get the repairs set up before the floor caves."
"You think that just because it is over here means that it is over completely? Things are never that simple. Just because they are done here does not mean they will stop. They will want you and any others they can find dead." Klaus said, words low. The girl was clearly not going to back down and neither would he.
His eyes followed hers to the wall and he saw the damage that she had caused. It would need to be fixed to keep it together. But then his attention was back on her when she spoke again.
"Do you just think you can walk away and pretend none of this happened? That you can get back to a normal life?"
"It's over. They're gone. I should be able to go to my other home and go about only worrying about insane taxi drivers and handsy people on the subway," Kenna didn't back down on this. It seemed he wouldn't back down either. Some part of her wanted to settle this in their way.
Growing distracted by the wall she knew that would need support and they were fixing the top floor from the damage. "Probably next week, after some repairs are finished and she's need to hunt down Jenny and the old step dad.
"Maybe a few days," she added as an afterthought. "I need to call the crew."
He cared about her and it was why he was taking these messures now. He was more than aware that she would not like it. And he knew that she would not allow it without a fight. One of her many qualities that drew him in was the fact that she was so stubborn and would fight for what she wanted. She was NOT afraid to challenge him and call him out.
And as soon as she was in her feet, Klaus was as well. Still his cool gaze was locked with hers. "I made the promise to help you in anyway that I can and this will be me keeping it. Already one of you have 'died' this is not a time to be on your own. And tell me exactly why we should listen?" The man challenged.
"I wasn't asking permission," Kenna answered evenly giving a look of her own. Having a baby sitter the rest of her life was not what she signed up for. Even if she cared for him, and the sex was amazing. It would be quite the showdown.
Standing up she dusted herself off. She was glad for her genes so that the vodka was only numbing her emotions.
"I do appreciate everything you've both done, thank you. I'm asking that I have some time. Completely alone. I have some...business I need to attend to. And only saying this because I care about both of you."
Quite clearly the girl was not doing well and still angry. Well angry was an understatement to say the least. She had in a sense lost the only family she had left and now had two or three vampires wanting to run her life. And he knew her to like being one to have a say in her own life and this was suffocating to Kenna to say the very least.
Green-blue gaze was instantly upon her when she said she wanted to go back to New York but did not need or want a chaperone. After the events of the last couple of months and ESPECIALLY the last few days, Kenna was crazy of she thought he would let her out of his sight or far from his protection.
"We can compromise on that. You will not be going back on your own. Either Elijah or I will go with you. But we will keep our distance and only help when you need it." The words were quiet as they were spoken. Dead serious and the gaze he gave was a hard one which said he meant it.
This empty shell would be her home. She'd make it beautiful, and more to the original plans. Soule had taken his mom's body, needing time, but assured her in the voice mail that he wasn't angry. He was considering the same thing.
"I need to go to New York City, and I don't want any chaperones," Kenna said still laying on the dirty floor, She didn't care. There was already a lot of dust in here that she probably shouldn't be breathing in.
"I appreciate the help but I need some room before I destroy my home more..."
Nik had given Elijah a look when his brother had asked her that. The man should have known just from looking at the girl and also the wall. So he did wonder why it had been asked. But then, Elijah did like to hear it more than assuming.
"Well it does save the money for a crew to do it. And the emotions were well directed." Klaus said quietly as he moved to sit on the floor beside Kenna. If he was in her place he would have easily destroyed the place. So he had to give her credit for being so controlled.
For a moment he was silent. "It will be okay and she will come back. Just give it time." But it was all he could say as he was not quite sure how to comfort her. That was not his strong suit
