“I have been seeing someone the last couple of years but neither of us is interested in getting married, he works a lot.” She said looking to Kane. “Ive been seeing your father.” Kane shook his head, “You told me dad was dead!” She nodded, “Because he had went to jail and I thought he would never get out and it was easier for you to tell people he was dead than for them to look down on you more for your father being in jail.”
"Why not now? I'm sorry for all that but you're still beautiful and giving," Kenna asked. her filter wasn't fully working but she was tired from pregnancy and nausea.
She knew there would be some game playing soon, there usually was and she either was doing something else or only half paying attention. That was a seemingly normal.
Maybe it shouldn't have been though.
“I did, his name was Todd.” She said and Kane made a face, “He beat Kane when he was little and I didn’t know about it until he came forward and Todd ended up in jail.” Kane hid his face in kenna’s shoulder. He had ruined his mother’s marriage. “Kane’s father was the only man I ever really loved and he was older than I was and I had Kane at 17...everyone looked down on mixed couples and then when Kane was born, well I was basically shunned.”
Kenna was sure she had no idea they started out as a drunk night after the day turned to shit. One night and there was now something growing inside of her. That still felt weird.
"Yeah, I guess so. Why did you never remarry?" Kenna asked. Feeling her relief she as she put her foot up. It was getting harder to be comfortable. Settling into his arms she smiled closing her eyes.
His mother smiled, “I’m glad Kane found someone he loves as much as he can, and your perfect together and having a baby, the Brown family is growing for the first time since Kane was a baby!” Kane blushed, “Momma don’t scare her about having. The baby and everything. She will be alright and has the best doctors money can buy.” He had a hand resting on her slight bump.
"I don't know, I've been told many times I'm supposed to like the Yankees. Not that I understand that," Kenna said before nodding to his mom. She didn't need to work to be here, she was helping where she was able to only able maybe three quarters.
Sitting down next to him she gave a smile to him kissing his cheek. She couldn't completely cuddle with him but that was becoming a wonderful thing.
“Only if it’s the Braves.” Kane said with a smile, his heart was still with Georgia teams, the bulldogs and the braves, they were his favorites. He kissed her and his mother smiled. “Kenna would you and Kane mind if I made dinner tonight, as a thank you for letting me stay here?” Kane looked to his mother, “Momma you don’t have to thank us, your helping if anything.”
"We don't need to worry about the babies room. We just need you to sit down and rest, even if its game after game, and I may sit down and watch one with you. Football is still lost but I might settle for baseball," Kenna smiled wrapping her arm around him leading him to their large living room.
Sometimes she felt out of place here in a big house but wasn't going to ask him to move.
Kane smiled to kenna, “I think kenna has a few things she hasn’t unpacked yet but we were about to start working on the baby’s room soon and since you’ll be here awhile I’m sure we would both like you opinion on what we do and don’t need.” Kane was alright but wasn’t allowed to move much for a few days. He winced moving the wrong way, “I’m okay I promise.”
"Oh yeah. The baby already found my vital organs mostly in the middle of the night," Kenna said dryly, and that earned a chuckle. Pregnancy and childbirth was war stories between moms.
She gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. She loved her and having a real mom is was amazing.
"Are you all settled in and everything?" She asked placing the bags down .
The next day he was allowed to go home and his mother was waiting on them when they got there. “Hey momma.” Kane said sitting down on the couch. He was allowed to walk but not far at one time. He leaned over and kissed Kenna. His mother smiled and asked, “How is the little one doing?” Kane smiled, “Kenna said the baby moved yesterday, I can’t wait until I can feel it too.”
It was frustrating being like this when he needed her most. Getting up to use the bathroom after feeling the strange squirming, the baby landing on her bladder. Feeling a wave of queasiness.
Coming back she gave a sheepish smile. "Sorry, baby, it's been very active and...yeah...how are you feeling?"
Taking his hand again she smiled to him gently. He was as okay, and that was most important right now.
Kane smiled, “Baby likes that daddy is okay.” Kane couldn’t wait to find out if the baby was a girl or a boy. He was hoping for a bit of course but he would love a girl the same. He took a sip of his juice, “Darlin’ I’m going to sit up.” The nurse looked to him, “let me help you with that, we don’t want you pulling your stitches out yet.” Kane nodded slowly pulling himself up and wincing as he did. His fans had no idea he was in this situation.
"I'm glad that you're okay. I really am. That was scary," Kenna admitted. She was slow on the love forever part, but she didn't want anything without him. This level was terrifying for her.
Never taking her hand out of his she sat down next to him. The baby was moving in response, feeling like a light impact. "The baby is happy, too...that's the first I felt that," Kenna said, even if it felt just like a bubble.
“No, Kane was muttering about it when the doctor was putting him under.” The nurse said smiling. Kane looked to kenna. “hospital oh hospital.” He laid his head back on the pillow. He kissed her back but gently, it was all he could do, his body hurt and at the same time he felt like it didn’t belong to him. The drugs they gave him were messing with him.
