"Technically you'd be an uncle figure unless something happens. Uncle figures are just as powerful too. I already scooped out a guy for her to go out with," Kenna grinned.
"Most of my figures was kind neighbors growing up. Anyway, if they want you to see you dating me. I'll do it. You helped me get to where I needed to be. I'll do the same for you."
Kane shook his head, "I can deal with this awkward in between world but I meant what I said about Brooke. I might work and leave for shows, hell you are coming to my show with her next week... but I will always come back for her... she needs someone in her life like me." He didn't want to say a father figure but he knew thats what he was to her... without even trying.
"Good, that would have been awkward if you didn't," Kenna chuckled before raising an eyebrow. "Pretty impressive for a two year old. If you do need to travel or go back...she'll be okay. She won't remember people very well."
She had asked for her dad but then forgot about him, didn't even say the word dad. "because you helped me...I'm here, had a good time, and Brooke is here because I was. So if you need me to, we can go back to where we started. Not completely real...not yet."
Kane smiled, "I remember coming home with you and what we did but I don't remember anything at the bar." he muttered and looked up to Brooke waving, he waved back, "Shes something else but Kenna... I'm not going anywhere... Brooke asked me if I was leaving and I told her no... I don't want to let that little princess down ever.... I want her to know even though shes not related to me she can count on me."
"Morgan was our old classmate. I guess someone asked and told about us in high school. So, maybe it was that receptionist who got the picture at the party," Kenna thought carefully. "Do you remember anything past the bar?"
That would have been interesting if he didn't remember them getting together.
Brooke waved from the little window and Kenna softened. This girl. .
"What relationship? What pictures?" Kane asked confused. He remembered having sex and reconnecting in a way only they coupld last night but he had no idea about all of the flirting and kissing at the bar, he didn't remember that at all. Kane sighed watching Brooke, "How bad is the damage?" he asked wondering who Morgan was and how she had gotten pictures of them together.
Entering the children's museum where there was already kids squealing a d screaming. first was the playsets where kids was running around like mad.
"Brooke, want to play in the house?" She asked after Brooke was starting to stir. She would pass out hard later.
"Down," Brooke said and once she was down there she walked still groggy before finding the little house
"She loves that house," Kenna smiled. Looking to her phone she blinked at the link. "Wow...that was fast...Morgan told about our 'relationship ' and last night pictures are out. This can't be good."
Kane looked to her, “Everything.” He muttered and then focused his attention on brooke but heard her say there was too much happening right now and he understood that. Kane kept tabs on brooke, sometimes carrying her since she didn’t seem to want to be in her stroller. She ended up leaning her head against his shoulder and sucking on her thumb before falling asleep.
"What do you actually remember about last night?" Kenna asked quietly. She remembered very much about their reunion. It had been something amazing and to wake up next to him. "I can't right now. There's too much already."
It was a warm day for February when they got out of the tunnel. Pushing the stroller she pulled out the passes for the children's museum. Brooke was gone inside the supermarket the moment they entered.
Kane didn't realize that the woman assumed that he was the little girl's father but he picked her up gently and kissed her forehead putting her in the stroller since this was their stop. She fussed a little as she wanted to be with them but once she was back in her stroller she was fine. Kane reached for Kenna's hand, 'Think about trying us again... please."
"I didn't do any of the hard work I become massive. Just awkward procedures," Kenna chuckled. Brooke was very open and affectionate but she was well taken care of. "It may have...but this city made me. Health, body, career. Nothing as close though."
"You have a beautiful daughter," a woman said passing them with a smile.
"Thanks," Kenna mumbled. "This is our stop, too." Kenna said before placing her back in the umbrella stroller.
Kane smiled, 'Shes perfect so yeah... something did go right." Kane said and nodded, 'Yeah while enlisted... my squad all got tattoos to match and I got the K..." he said showing her their number and where they were deployed tattooed on his arm. "I have a few pictures, remind me to show you... sometimes I think back and I wonder if things could have been different but I knew it wasn't the right time... and you have a code because of me... well Kenna... I tried to be happy without you and it didn't work... whats that tell you."
"I figured that was the case. So you got this while enlisted," Kenna nodded thoughtfully. Looking to him she gave a smile. "Trish will say it's Nate of why I have the code but it's actually you. I knew it wouldn't be the same so I just changed the game."
Brooke fidgeted next to Kenna before crawling over her lap to sit between them resting her blonde head against him.
"I don't know...something went right all those years," she said kissing the top of Brooke's head .
"its for you." He muttered looking to her. 'I had to have something to focus on to keep my mind out of the shooting and the war. I wasn't over there long but while I was, my only goal was to get back home to you. We always said maybe it would work in the future and I had hope it would. Being with you... I never had that connection with anyone else. I went home and got married because thats what your supposed to do and I thought you had moved on. I never wanted to get married and have that kind of life. The house, the car, the picket fence. I wasn't that guy, but I tried to move on and be happy with Bella, you see how that turned out."
"Why don't we go to the fun place, Brooke?" Kenna suggested, they had been there enough.
"Yes Kea! Train?" Brooke cheered before running off to get her shoes.
"I can't have her getting sick...or...we'll just go on the subway and make a day of this. besides your album comes out today we should celebrate.
" Ready! " Brooke smiled widely. "Kae, up."
"Kae for Kane and Kea for me, we always match," Kenna grabbed the diaper bag and the umbrella stroller. "Hop in, Brooke."
In the subway she learned against his arm. "What's with the K on your chest?"
