"So you met with our resident Brooklyn woman. Marries young because she's beautiful, has beautiful kids, turns thirty and stock broker dumps her for hopeful model," Kenna said approaching him leaving the side of the tall Italian.
"That's Nate," she said before taking his arm to lead him over to Nate.
"Ah, so this is Kane, " Nate smiled holding his hand out. "It's nice to finally meet you."
Kane nodded, "Yeah let me find my own wallet... I can take a cab, no problem." He said calling an Uber on his phone and taking her wallet from Trish. It wasn't a long ride to where Kenna's party was but when he showed up he didn't see anyone familiar right away but he was hit on by an older woman, he was flattered but not interested as she wasn't Kenna.
It was different than in high school when she hadn't been sure to show this much. Now she knew how exactly to use her body to get attention or hurt, it was an art at this point. She was even a better pick up artist than Nate.
When she went to get her drink, she realized she had forgotten her ID, but not the rest of her card.
Trish carefully trekked upstairs and knocked on his door. "Kenna needs her other wallet, could you bring it to her? I'll give you the address of where it's at."
Kane came downstairs and smiled to her, "You look beautiful darlin'." He muttered wanting to tell her how much he loved her and missed her but he didn't. Trish could see it. Kane was in love with Kenna and it was obvious to everyone but her. "Have fun tonight sweetheart." He said turning around to go back in his room. He couldn't watch her leave, he would follow her if he did.
She reached one arm out and grabbed the towel. It wasn't as if he could see much, just a misty outline. Kenna came out in the towel. Dressing in the sleek black dress, just above her knees with the spaghetti straps. She wore black knew length boots to go with it.
The Smokey makeup was done in the bathroom and she was ready.
"Wow, you look great Kenna. I don't want to hear you before midnight, do whatever you want to do," Trish smirked .
"You're not my cousin. I plan on having fun," Kenna replied just waiting to say bye to Kane.
Kane nodded, "Yeah darlin'." He grabbed the towel and went to the crack in the door, he had taken his shirt off as he was icing his shoulder. He looked to her and quickly moved his eyes away, "Sorry sweetheart." he said moving his eyes to the floor... damn she was gorgeous. "Here babe." He muttered handing her the towel before going back into his room.
"Try some stretches, it might losen it up and ice," Kenna suggested. She read that paperwork and the suggested sites twice. It had seemed like a good idea at the time.
Smiling to him she stepped into the shower her towel. At last the bathroom had been remodeled recently though she hated the counter. Finishing fifteen minutes later she stepped out before realizing there wasn't a towel in her.
"Uh...Kane...could you get my towel off my bed, please," she called through the crack in the door.
Kane nodded, "Very... thank you for going on Monday." He looked to her and chuckled, "Oh yeah your party is tonight. Have fun darlin'." he muttered and put his hand on his shoulder and rubbed where the pain was, he wished it would go away. Sometimes he even had nightmares about that day and he was thankful he hadn't had one since he had been with Kenna in this house.
"I was reading on what they do. It's amazing. Just using a laser on the nerve and a few hours later people said the nerve back pain is almost gone. Just one laser in the right spot and damages fixed," Kenna said as she looked to the setup. "Nervous?"
She was dirty already from the drilling by having the closets done, and painting. The floor by next week.
"I should shower and get ready. Can't go smelling bad."
Kane nodded, "Thank you Kenna.. I appreciate everything your doing for me." He said smiling, his first treatment was on Monday and he was nervous about it but having a room to come back to would help. He couldn't use his arm Monday after the treatment much but he was hoping it would help. He had been trying to do the excersizes recommended by the doctor as well.
"I should have told you it was getting uncomfortable. The word girlfriend in every damn sentence, and contact. I was hoping we could be be friends without it so messy," Kenna sighed before kissing his cheek. "It's okay, we'll find out balance."
Going to bed with her head more clear. She came back late afternoon with Trish and they had made their peace.
Saturday was a slower day of finishing closets before she was heading out. "And now, you have a closet and your temporary room is done. Is the futon comfortable enough?"
Kane was up still and on the couch watching tv, he just wasn't ready to sleep just yet and he didn't know why. He wasn't waiting up on her. "I'm sorry about earlier darlin'... I didn't meet to cross a line." he said getting up and going to the kitchen to show her that they had saved her some kind of both pizzas. The next day Kane was watching Brooke all day.
"She doesn't hate you. She cares about you a lot...she's built a different life and suddenly that's all shaken up. Give her this night and you'll see she just needs a night off," Brooke smiled to her. "Give her space and she'll always come back better."
It would be a bigger job. She wasn't sure if her agency would take it but she would try. Nate took her for some sushi and drinks afterwards with some pool games.
Coming in around two, not ready for bed yet she changed and went for some water and watch something on her phone.
"I'm sorry..." Kane muttered looking down before she left. He had crossed a line and hadn't meant to. Looking to Trish he sighed, "Don't worry about it... she hates me right now." It had hit him hard what she said, if it wasn't for Trish and mostly Brooke he would have taken his bag and gotten a hotel that night. All he wanted was to be with her and all she did was stomp on his heart everytime.
"This line is getting very blurry. I'm not your girlfriend and not yours, we're friends and I'm happy to help you and be a friend," Kenna said as gently as she could. "Enjoy the pizza though. I'll be back later Trish."
Trish grimaced before getting her plate ready. "I took her life and space away from her. That's one thing she treasures most. this is hard enough without being placed in a box."
She felt bad, she really did.
