Pearl kept talking comfortingly to Marina, eventually falling asleep with her friend, and she was cuddling her friend in the morning while she slept, being comforting as Mariana had been to her in the past. And in her dreams, all she could think about was protecting her friend.
Marina hadn't meant to fall asleep when they had gone into the house...but exhaustion finally had taken over and she ended up passed out with her head on Pearl's lap. The place looked a bit messy, which was odd until Pearl realized that it must have been this way due to how the black Octoling had been depressed and almost seemed to not care anymore...that is, until Pearl had come back.
She sighed and helped her friend inside, ending up passed out on the couch with her best friend after takin her headphones off and she smiled at her friend. “They’ll see what they did wrong, but we’ll be back in business soon...” she said
"T-thank you, P-Pearl...thank y-you..." Marina managed to say as she cried, both overjoyed to see her best friend and also horribly depressed to know how everything must have affected Inkopolis in the end of things.
She hugged her friend back, doing her best to comfort her like how Marina had done for her all those years when she was Inkopolis’ number one big headed inkling. “It’s going to be alright...I promise you that...” she said, smiling.
Marina took the drink and laid it off to the side, listening to her friend's words and hugging her tightly. Continuing to sob, obviously ashamed of herself and thinking it was all her own fault for everything that had happened, the dark-skinned Octoling tightened her hug.
She hugged her back, smiling sadly. “I did it because I wanted to be with you, and it also helps us both, because they won’t be able to make fun of me...” she said, and she opened the duffel bag, and handed her her favorite drink, and pulled out a special soda that she had found along the way to Marina’s house. “I ended up snapping and told them exactly what caused you to leave, and I told them that they weren’t going to be able to fix what they had destroyed.” She said, and she leaned on her friend’s shoulder, after they sat down on the front steps.
Hearing the other Octoling's words and knowledge that was proof of her being Pearl, Marina quickly embraced the female in a big hug, a tight hug. "Pearlie, I'm so sorry...I'm so so so sorry...you d-didn't need to have s-surgery done to become an Octoling just for m-me..." She said gently, crying.
“Oh, sorry...” she said, chuckling a bit nervously, and she looked at Marina, being able to tell she has had a very unpleasant week or two since she left Inkopolis. “Marina...it’s me, Pearl...” she said, but whenever she said who she was, she was met with a No You Can’t Be look, making her a bit annoyed, then she smiled. “Last Salmon Run we did together, you got lucky and had the Grizzco Blaster, and I got the Grizzco Charger.” She said, remembering it well. “And we even were sent to the Salmonoid Smokeyard.” She finished, looking at Marina. Then when that didn’t convince her friend, she had to think long and hard about something that would convince her. “Also, you used to have a secret crush on a black haired inkling named Wilson...” she said, smiling.
Upon hearing a knocking sound upon her door, the Octoling got off of her couch, dreary-eyed and depressed as she opened the door, seeing a rather fresh looking Octoling. "Good morning. I don't believe I've seen you before." She said, lying about the [i 'good morning'] part of her words.
At the end of her extensive surgery, the doctor helped Pearl up, and when she stood up, she realized that part of the surgery made her taller, about as tall as her doctor, and as she looked in the mirror, she smiled, looking very nice while rocking a new hair style as well. “This is amazing!” She said, thanking the doctor for the amazing job he’d done. “Also, a little added perk of the surgery is that you’re able to use Octoling ink.” He said, and she gave him a thumbs up, and had gone out to get some clothes that fit, soon coming out looking like a DJ like her friend. “Okay, let’s see...” she said, unfolding the map, and went out towards the exit of Inkopolis, headed towards where the map directed her, soon finding Octo Valley, and she was amazed by the view that she had. As she descended the clif face, she looked at a picture of her and Marina that was from their first week together, and she sighed, remembering the old days, and she soon hit the ground where the peaceful town was, and she pulled it the map, and continued to Marina’s house. As she came up to the door, she knocked on it, hoping to get Marina’s attention, smiling slightly, and she adjusted the duffel bag on her shoulder, which had some of both of their personal effects.
Marina soon had arrived at her decent-sized house in Octo Valley, all of her old friends surprised to see her back and so depressed. When she entered her house, she locked the door and threw herself down onto a familiar-looking couch, the same type that was in the Inkopolis studio's living room. The Octoling sat there, depressed, crying and contemplating her messed up life, for days on end.
She ended up going home silently, not listening to anyone when they either insulted her or tried to comfort her, not caring anymore, since she lost her friend in the city, and she wanted to be with her again. As days past, she grew tired of the insults from their fans and she finally snapped and made a video. “Listen...I know you think that because I’m salty, that Marina left, by you know what?! It’s all because you people insulted her and called her names, and that makes you just as bad as the octolings that Octavio has, so you know what? I’m done, you tore apart my only family from me, and now you’re going to have to deal with it!” She said, and stopped the recording. Soon she grabbed a bag of coins from all the Salmon runs she and Marina did over the years, and headed to the hospital, where she asked to see the best surgeon they had, and when she got to meet him, she showed him the bag of coins and a good drawing of what she wanted to look like as an octoling. “This might take a while, perhaps a couple days to a week...” the surgeon said, putting on a pair of gloves and a mask, then soon he began to operate, doing his best on her for a few days.
Marina hugged back tightly, and handed Pearl a small map leading to her home in Octo Valley. "I'm sorry that I'm leaving like this, Pearlie...but...I just can't anymore..." She mumbled. "You've always been like a sister to me...so I know how much this hurts you...but I'm sorry. I'm...sorry..." And with those words, the Octoling silently turned around and walked away, out of Inkopolis once and for all.
Pearl was crying silently, not knowing what to say or do, but the first thing she did is hug her friend, not wanting to let go, but when she did, she smiled sadly. “I promise you...I’ll find a way to get to you, I promise...” she said, trying to keep herself from bawling.
