It would be awkward in it's sense but at the same time that would be dull. There would always be a care for Bella, but she wasn't the one he was made for. She wasn't the one who now held his heart. The one who did sat in the passenger seat and didn't know it. And he needed to tell her. Soon at that but was not sure just how he would.
"I don't really know...I had this crazy nightmare and wanted to make sure the old man's okay... And I won't be leaving, I promise." Jake found himself saying and without thinking a hand moved to give one of hers a squeeze.
"You know...I don't know if they'll start again. Maybe they'll surprise you." He whispered, trying not to wake the other two. It wouldn't be too much longer as already they had been driving for a while. "Do you look forward to seeing Forks?" He asked the girl. The boy needed something to distract his thoughts.
"Still must be awkward, unless it's not anymore...Is everything okay with your dad?" Daria asked. She obviously felt the concern. The idea of him meeting the almost ex which was really weird. "This might sound selfish...but I hope you stay with us. Really. You make it bearable and when they start going at it again, oh god..."
There was something different about them now. She wasn't sure what and she wasn't sure she wanted to know. It was very pretty up here, she liked it, looking out the window she leaned back contently.
After a few hours of sleep and having had his talk with Liam, Jake was given the keys to the car. He knew the way and where they were going so it made sense that he drive. His dark eyes went to both Liam and Charlie as the other two were asleep, leaned against the other in the backseat as he began to drive.
"Yeah, I should be fine with it. I mean that's not what we're going there for anyway... I asked Liam if I could check in on my dad..but that also means seeing the pack and possibly the vampires in the area.." Jake explained quietly. He was still trying to work out how to explain the imprinting and everything to the girl.
This was all new territory yet they were running out of options. He wouldn't fully recover for another week. "Well, please be careful about it. There will still be pain if she's hurt," Liam answered matter of factly. "Get some sleep, you'll be driving us there."
A few hours later after talking, Jake was given the keys, and they were on their way. While Liam slept in the back, Daria sat in the front. "So, you think you'll be okay with facing the almost ex?" She asked woreied. She didn't want him leaving them, it was selfish but he was the only thing that made this bearable.
Liam had a point. They had never had another alpha around or another pack of sorts. For the longest time it had only been the shifters. So there was that to consider too. "That point I can't be sure of. Sam will probably want to meet with you and set up arrangements of some kind of another. Make sure there is no threat or anything." Hey, the man needed to know and Jake was inclined to be honest about it.
The next question took the shifter off his guard. How long had Liam and Charlie known? But he had to quickly push that aside as dark eyes were upon the other man. "I should tell her soon.. But I haven't wanted to run her off or scare her. Besides I have to be whatever she wants or needs from me. Right now it's a friend...Guess I'll have to make sure the guys don't tell her until I have had the chance.." Jake said slowly and quietly.
It was obvious that Liam didn't believe him, but he wasn't exactly prepared to debate with him. There was still the pain and the exhaustion from the recovery was taking it's toll. It was soon after the full moon and then shifting again. "Right, that should be interesting to see. I guess I'm the alpha here. That wouldn't bother your pack leader?"
It was more of a female question he thought of next. "When are you planning on telling her? She's still new so she's not as in tuned. It'd be something from a movie if she found out through them."
"Last I knew there was a small coven of about seven. They aren't harmful and try and keep it on the downlow. The Cullens are what you call 'vegeterians'...they drink animal blood." He explained quickly, knowing that Liam was concerned on the vampire part since he brought it up so quickly. And then again, Jacob nodded. "Yeah, I think they'd be fine with you and Charlie. You're like Daria's family and they can't harm an imprints family...and you're now my family too."
He hoped his words would be enough to convince Liam that it would be okay. Enough to get the other male to agree. When he said he would talk it over with Charlie, a smile cmae to his lips. "Thanks."
"Jake, isn't there vampires there?" Liam asked, rather straightforward though was genuinely concerned before pondering the words. "You'd think that they'd accept us? I mean, Daria is your imprint, but we are just the other wolves."
It could do Charlie good though he did wonder about the vampires. The few run ins with vampires hadnt been good. Still Jake looked like hell and was basically begging. "I'll talk it over with Charlie. As long as we'd be safe, that's okay."
The man had his face hidden in his hands. He was trying to even his breathing out and had by the time Liam had asked him what was up. "Had a hell of a dream.. But because of it I want to go back to La Push.. Have to go back. I have to check on my dad." Those were the only words he was able to manage.
He was still shaken up by the dream as he got to his feet and went to get some water. Jake took a slow drag from his cup of water and then set it on the counter. "Can we go there and check? I think I want the others like me to meet you guys too. Might be safer too." He added, eyes beggig though he would not beg outright.
Liam was adjusting, he was still in pain, but after sleeping for a while he was just not tired. The girls were asleep in the room and he had offered to keep an eye out. If something happened he'd hollar.
Looking to Jake curiously, he put the book down. "What's up, Jake?" He asked curiously. He didn't look that good, something must have scared him. He adjusted himself to go get his drink. "Looks like you had hell of a dream..."
Dreams was a bane of their existence. They were nightmares, and thus they had nightmares.
The water seemed to splosh around him as he ran through it after her. Only did he stop when she had near the small waterfall. And again did he get distracted with how beautiful she was. With how the water glistened around her. Quickly he had to shake that from his head. If he didn't his thoughts would be heading down another path that he didn't want it going down yet.
"Were they much bigger than this?" Jake asked with a smile as he motioned to the waterfall. "In Forks there is one..not in La Push."
Another bright smile came to the shifter's lips. "I'm glad you're my friend too. And really?"
The day had seemed to pass relatively uneventfully after the romp in the waterfall. There were just the small chores to be done here and there. It was quiet and even he noticed what Daria had said about "mom" and "dad" behaving better had been true. Dinner that night had not been awkward and it was the lightest it had been yet.
Everyone had called it a night and had as far as Jake knew gone to bed. For a little while he was able to sleep. But then his normal nondreaming turned into a horrible nightmare about his father. The other wolves had been lured out and there was no one left to keep La Push and all of those they cared about safe. And in his dream he could see the leeches so clearly chasing everyone and tearing them apart. His father being one of the first. Jake woke up in a cold sweat and looked around the livingroom and to the still burning fire. The shifter was all but gasping as he was trying to clear his head of the dream. It couldn't be real. It just couldn't.
It was strange playing like this but it was also amazing fun. Finally reaching the waterfall. The water at least went above her waist here before giving a grin towards him. "Oh, this water feels amazing...They have waterfalls in my hometown..."
She liked her home, the food, though she had been eager to escape. Looking to him she gave a smile to him. "Thanks for being my friend here...I really am glad that you came along...Even Charlie and Liam are being better than they were before."
It was no shock that both she and Liam were surprised in the turn of their conversation. Never was she so open and honest with the man, and never was he this open. It was strange but it also reminded her of what they had been. Reminded her that they still cared and it was more than for survival that they stayed together. Though before the shifter came, Charlie would have never thought about imprints or even how they worked. But Jacob unknowingly had brought that up for them. [b "It seems so...now we understand why we can never leave.. We can drift and wander..but in the end we're still always there. Though I'm not sure if I prefer our way of imprinting or theirs."] The woman said softly as her eyes had trailed back to Jacob and Daria for a moment.
Nothing about this would be easy. They had traveled many roads and many years, a place to start would be difficult to find. Sex would definitely be the easiest as they both had admitted to missing it. But that wasn't fair and was putting their emotions on the line too. When her hand had been taken, Charlie gave his a squeeze and turned dark eyes to the man with a slow smile coming to her lips. [b "I think that will be the journey I look forward to most...and so will I.. We'll figure this out.."] Her words were quiet as she was falling into thought.
Both were surprised, he was surprised that she missed this and was being so honest, and she seemed surprised he opened up. He couldn't blame them on both accounts. "I guess we imprint as well, just differently. Like an invisible bungee cord or something...while they have a ball and chain..." Liam said watching after them for a moment longer.
Where did they start? It was easy to start with sex but that wasn't fair. Instead he took her hand. "Well, whenever we want to try that journey again, I'm going to be right here. For now we can just figure out where to go next."
"Having me captive? Hm what would that ential?" Jake asked with a laugh and shake of his head. The flirting playfully as they were was fun. Felt natural in a way. Well on his end he knew why it was. On hers he didn't know. But he did know that she thought of them as good friends, which he was more than content with. He would be anything she wanted or needed of him. But with her he was free to be him too.
When she slid down from his back, Jake'e head tilted. But after a second, the girl tapped him and then darted off. "That's not fair!" The boy shouted and chased after her. He could have sworn they were children at that moment but he didn't care. It was just nice to have the freedom without the worry.
