[i All my hopes are up on the ceiling and all my friends are high and I can't keep up, I can't keep up]]
Liam once was a shining jewel in the town of Medford. He had promise of the track scholarship, loved most physical activities, and was a fun, sociable guy. He graduated high school, started at college, things were going well. Two years later it all changed.
What was supposed to be a fun outing turned into an accident, one he thought he'd mend from. Something had
though. After healing physically he felt different. After quitting school and returning to Medford he was a different person who liked to avoid people, couldn't reign in his emotions, and seemed in some pain.
Life was still the same pace, but he couldn't keep up.
was close to Liam . They were inseparable at times. Then college came, and she had big dreams that didn't involve this hellhole. She left for the big city, and perused her dreams. It was almost all coming true, or so she thought. Something still felt like it was missing.
Eight years later, while everyone around her was doing what was expected and she felt on track. There's a tragedy in the family and she returns to Medford to find Liam still there and completely different.
Now she needs to decide to try and reach out or walk away like the others. Or if she wants to face she's living a life she deeply dislikes.
[i Give me something I can believe in 'cause all my friends are high and I can't keep up, I can't keep up]
Post once or twice a week. If something comes up let me know, please.
Honestly, I don't care about how many characters. Let's say over 800 and call it good, yeah?
This is a romance, but it should be slow. Please no mary sues either. There's also many other elements in here that can be added.
Add to the plot and let's make it fun.
To join please PM me with a description of your character. She'd be around 24-26. Add anything you'd like to add with her.
Side info: Liam has TBI .
You don't have permission to post in this thread.
An amused expression flickered across Liam's face. He would have laughed if he didn't think through what he said and did beforehand. That hadn't changed, he had always been careful, but now it was for not being polite but...correct. Going to a woman's apartment. It had been a long damn time since someone asked him to go to that, the last one that got scared off.
[b "Yeah, that sounds good, it won't take more than a few hours. There's not a lot of free time but I'd love to see that,"] Liam nodded, and it was true, though it was harder to tell. [b "I'll cover this. I can still be a gentleman. So...I'll text you when I'm off, yeah?"]
When they got the check, he paid for it using his card, having some money there. It was mostly being saved for the "rehab" he was intending on going through and doctors.
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" A small smile passed over her lips and she nodded lightly. [#DDB9B9 "Yes you do, since it's been changed over the years. So just give me a line about when you are off, and then I'll send you my address and you can come over whenever you want to"] she said lightly. She knew his lunch hour was about up, and she didn't want him going back. She kept that thought to herself though. She wasn't about to overwhelm him. She knew she could be a lot to handle at once, so she was doing her best to keep herself in check.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" [#DDB9B9 "Thank you for inviting me to lunch, I'll get the bill so you don't have too. I'll see you later today? Or this week"] she said lightly. She stood and walked around the table and kissed his cheek lightly. A small simple task, and her heart was hammering away. She didn't quite understand the feelings she was feeling, but at least for now she could escape and think. She made sure to grab the bill before he could even see it, and took it to the front to pay.]]
"Yale, that's still good. I'm glad you're still doing art then..." Liam nodded, listening to her, still having the old memories of her art. Old memories was fine, new memories was another thing. Once they had talked about dreams they had and now his was almost coming back. It had just taken some years to come back.
"Yes, that'd be great to see your art. I obviously have your number now," he said with a dry muse before he rubbed the back of his neck. "You don't need to be sorry. It's really okay. Life is simple and good, it's easy to manage."
That meant happiness to him, really. Easy and mangable.
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" [#DDB9B9 "Yes Yale, my parent's were so excited I got into the school of my dreams. Right now I'm studying on how to become a business owner. I want to open my own art studio someday. I still have a huge passion for drawing, and people look at me weird when I show them."] she shrugged lightly taking a fry and bit into it. She rolled her eyes lightly, and knew it was cliche about the jock marring the cheerleader. She knew it was bound to happen someday though. What made her feel bad, was it was his ex.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" [#DDB9B9 "I'm so sorry Liam.. Honestly, you can do so much better than the bimbo blondes in this town. You should go for someone who knows what she wants, and maybe see how things go from there"] she said with a small shrug of her shoulders. She took another fry and ate it. This was what she missed. The two sitting in a place like this, and just talking. She cocked her head slightly watching him with silent eyes. She broke out into a smile as she crossed her arms over her chest.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" [#DDB9B9 "Do you want to see some of my drawings? I don't have them with me, but when you get off work you can come to my apartment"] she offered. It might be weird, but she wouldn't mind the company. Plus she had a drawing she really wanted to show someone. It was some of her best work, but she didn't know who to show. Maybe it could be the male, and maybe just maybe he could be her next art project. Now, if only she could bring that idea up to the male.]]
"Yale? That's great. Right, you were talking about Yale...now I remember. So, what did you study?" He asked in an attempt to get a conversation flow happening. It was possible that he could act normal and get a conversation it wasn't the most fluid of conversations but it did happen. "Well...the high school jock just married the cheerleader, my ex today. If that doesn't fulfill any cliche."
He hadn't been a normal jock, he had been outdoors and field and track. He had wanted to go to sports medicine. Possibly still could. Taking his head out of his thoughts he looked back to her.
Taking some of the food he began eating some onion rings, hoping that she wouldn't be too put off by him now. He wanted his friend back.
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" The woman nodded lightly as she listened to him speak. She had noticed a couple of the people she had known, had children or were slowly getting married. Some of them weren't even here anymore. She didn't blame them either. When he asked what she had done when she left, she sighed lightly. [#DDB9B9 "Well I've been going to Yale, and just trying to keep up on all of my school work, and keeping up with everyone else I've gotten to know over the years"] she shrugged lightly as she lifted her glass to her lips and took a sip.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" She set it back down and looked up towards the male. [#DDB9B9 "In all honesty, I've missed this place. It's been my home since I was a little girl, so it's nice to be back. I know it's different with everyone being gone, or married off, or having kids. It's strange being back here at the same time."] she admitted. When the waitress came back around, asking if they were ready Maeve ordered a big juicy burger, and a shake. She handed the woman her menu and then leaned back into her chair.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" She looked up at the male slowly, and watched him with silent eyes. She didn't know what to say at the moment so she let the silence linger around them for the time being.]]
"Am I that obvious? Damn, I thought I was getting better, too..." Liam said going for a drink of the soda he had asked for when the waitress had came. Looking to her he tried to figure out the right words. Spilling everything out seemed a terrible idea but there was no lying that he was incredibly awkward as hell. Oh, this really was a pickle.
"No, no, it's just been a while since I've gone to a sit down place. And with an old friend. Most of the friends have moved on or married...The rest of them is..." It had been a lot of years, he just rubbed the back of his neck. "Everything is fine. Why don't you tell me what you've done since you managed to leave."
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" Maeve walked in behind the male and she looked around the place. It was small, and it was cute. The smells hit her nose and her mouth started to water. She followed behind the men to a table, and she sat down taking the menu offered to her. [#DDB9B9 "Thank you"] she said with a smile. She opened the menu and started looking it over. When Liam spoke about ignoring anything he said, she shook her head slightly and placed her menu down. She put her hands onto the table top, and started playing with her fingers.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" [#DDB9B9 "Liam, I'm not going to ignore anything you say. You never say anything wrong, or stupid. You never have. If you did I would say something"] she said softly. She removed her hands from the menu, and opened it again. She scanned though it and decided on a chicken salad. She closed the menu and looked around the small building. It was a cute place to go, and she could see taking a family here. As she was looking around, she spotted a couple of families already there, and her heart warmed slightly at the sight.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" She turned her eyes towards him and she bit the inside of her cheek lightly. [#DDB9B9 "You don't really want to be here do you? At least not with me"] she said softly. She felt like she was pushing him to do something he didn't want to do, and she could tell he wasn't relaxed. She bit her lip a bit and finally asked the question that's been burning in her mind. [#DDB9B9 "What happened to you Liam? You are so different than I remember"] she said softly, as she lowered her eyes to the table falling quiet.]]
[b "That's what I've heard. I really haven't gone out in a while so I really don't know. Only that people seem to think this is a new small town feel but hip place to have a family,"] Liam gave an awkward shrug before he remembered to open the door. God, he'd lose his head if it wasn't so attached. Looking behind her as they entered he felt his thoughts drift.
During the final year he was at school and they had been friends, he hadn't truly looked at her. At that time he was dating someone and had until the accident. Since then it had been a string of failures to the point where he was calling it good. Even attempts at one night stands went wrong.
They were seated by a nice new person before he looked to the menu. [b "It's been a while since I've met and talked to someone at some place like this so...if I say anything weird or stupid you can just ignore it."]
Always start off with a warning, though it was usually laughed off as cute, until the end of the date when they couldn't get away soon enough.
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" The woman was leaning her head back against the couch, her stomach growling as she waited to hear from Liam. She wouldn't mind going anywhere as long as it was with her old friend. She did notice something odd though. He seemed to not really remember her, and it was driving her slightly insane. Should she ask him about it?She knew she shouldn't, but apart of her still wanted to know. She let out a sigh when she felt her phone buzz and she picked it up, reading the message. [#DDB9B9 [i I'll be there in about ten minutes.]] and hit send.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" She stood and walked into the bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror. She cocked her head slightly to the side wishing she had showered. She stuck her tongue out at herself and rolled her eyes. [#DDB9B9 "Who are you trying to impress? Someone you had fallen head over heels for. Someone who might not feel the same about you"] she muttered. She ran a brush though her hair, and she walked out of the bathroom. She grabbed her apartment key's, and was ready to go. She slipped out into the air once more.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" She double checked the address, and realized it wasn't that far from her apartment building. She made he way down the street, her heart starting to skip a beat. She was nervous to be seeing him, but she knew she didn't have much of a choice. What was she supposed to say anyway? Did he even remember anything they had shared in the past? She sighed lightly and shook her head. The building came into view, and she spotted the male not too far off either. She smiled lightly and walked up to him.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" [#DDB9B9 "So, this place is supposed to be good? Looks like I'll be the judge of that"] she teased. She nodded to the door and opened it for him, letting him go inside first.]]
It seemed overnight there was at least ten places to eat. Each was with some catchy or comforting name. That was what it seemed to Liam who barely went out except on one of those few set up dates that was painful. Lucci's was suppose to be good.
[i Lucci's is supposed to be good.]
He wrote in the first message before thinking of adding more. She wouldn't know where it was unless she had a chance to explore the growing town of Medford, where the new families was finding so charming.
[i It's on 2nd Street.]
He added before grabbing his jacket and headed out. It was only three blocks away, so he walked there just in time. Waiting awkwardly outside of the place he waited on her, preparing in his head what he would say to her. Or partially...he wasn't sure what would happen.
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" A small sigh passed though the woman's lips. She felt like her mind was going a thousand miles a minute. She honestly didn't know why she was here. She did miss her old home town, but there was something off. She didn't know what it was, or if it was even that important. She shook her head lightly and unloaded her car. She went back and forth into the apartment, and her car. Pretty soon she had everything she owned inside, and the movers finally showed up with her couch, and bed. She led them inside and they followed.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" [#DDB9B9 "Thank you guys, I know it wasn't much but I do thank you for the help"] she said lightly as she paid them. They didn't say anything as they took their payment, and then walked out. She was then alone, and she sighed lightly. She walked over to the couch and plopped down. She kicked her legs over the arm, and looked around at the boxes. She didn't know if she wanted to unpack, or shower. She couldn't get Liam off her mind either. Something about seeing him stirred something up inside of her.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" Feelings she thought that had died out, but she knew they hadn't. She groaned lightly and put her arm over her eyes. She laid there a moment longer, before she heard her phone going off. She reached into her pocket and pulled it out. It was a text message from someone she didn't know. She read the message, and it dawned on her who it was. It was Liam. She made sure to save his number, and then she replied back. [#DDB9B9 [i Choose a place, and I'll be there.]] Was all she said back.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" She placed the phone onto her stomach, and waited for the male to reply back. She slowly dozed off, as she let herself relax a little bit. It was going to be an interesting afternoon that's for sure.]]
Liam wasn't fully certain of how anyone missed Medford. It wasn't the worst of the cities, in fact it wasn't even the smallest town around here. There was two high schools, two middle schools, and three element schools. "Downtown" was three streets of joined buildings in the original red brick with redone signs, and only a quarter of them was closed for business.
Awkwardly returning the hug, he wasn't sure why but it wasn't comfortable right now. Sometimes it was, and sometimes it wasn't, before he really had been a teddy bear. That was a different person though, from a different time.
[b "Uh, yeah, lunch sounds good,"] Liam nodded slowly, placing a smile. It was a script, what people wanted to hear rather than what was really on his brain. Taking the number he nodded after her, watching as she left with confusion on the situation and himself.
[b "Wow, brain...you looked and sounded like an idiot then...she's going to realize that you are not the same person, too,"] Liam muttered angrily to himself, going back to work on the box with extra umph.
An hour later he stared at the numbers, knowing he'd never remember them. The debate was intense inside his head of saying just call that it'd be fine, the other half giving terrible scenarios. Either way it was nervewrecking.
He ended up texting in the end saying that he had an hour lunch coming up.
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" A small smile passed over her lips as he did remember her. She shrugged lightly and ran a finger along his desk. She didn't know why she was here, but she wasn't about to let him know that. She locked her eyes with his and spoke. [#DDB9B9 "I just missed being home, I wanted to come back and see who was all here. When I called your uncle I was surprised you were still around. I thought you would have gone off to college or something"] she admitted. She walked around the desk and hugged the male tightly.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" [#DDB9B9 "That, and I missed my best friend. So you are going to have a little shadow around for a while"] she said as she looked up at him. She stood on her tip toes, and kissed his cheek lightly. She then dropped her arms from around the male and put her hands on her hips. [#DDB9B9 "How about you and I go do lunch? I do have to get to my apartment and unpack though, so you can call me when you are ready"] she said as she looked for a piece of paper.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" She found a blank one and wrote her number down. She then looked up at the male again and her heart fluttered in her chest. He looked wonderful, and if felt nice feeling his body against her for that short moment of time. Right now though, she had to get going. She didn't want too, but she had too. [#DDB9B9 "I know I have to cut this short, but you have work to do and I do as well. Call me later"] she said as she hugged him again. She pulled back and smiled up at him.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" [#DDB9B9 "You look amazing by the way"] she admitted. He did too. She could spend hours on end looking into those eyes of his, and listening to him talk. She took a step back and then she turned and walked out. She told his uncle goodbye as well, and then she headed back to her car. She slid behind the wheel and started it up. She sighed lightly as she felt like apart of her was all of a sudden missing. She looked up at the building, and sighed lightly.]]
[size11 [font "Lucida Console" [#DDB9B9 "Welcome home Maeve"] she muttered to herself. She pulled out of the parking lot and headed to her apartment building.]]
The man that Liam Murray used to be and was now, was like looking between a statue and a rock. Everyone changed after high school, they grew up, they got skinny or gained weight. Either made something of themselves, broke even, or failed. At times Liam couldn't quite remember what his [i true] dreams had been. His parents said it was sports, not as an athlete but some sort of specialist, he couldn't exactly remember why.
Now Liam Murray didn't give that smile, in fact he looked quite serious most times or distant. He wasn't as lean but gained muscle from his full time job at the factory. The only thing that felt the same was the unruly hair.
Slowly rising, knowing that if he rose too fast he'd lose his balance, something he had learned over the years. Don't rise to fast, avoid beer and everything like that, and there was a small list to go along with that.
"Maeve," Liam said slowly placing the box down, making a small mark on the clipboard next to him. Keep track or forget. Another small rule. "You look good. What brings you back to this hellhole?"
Maeve did look good, one of the few people that hadn't aged too much, her eyes looked nervous. Or so he thought, he couldn't be sure. Making sure that everything was done. He gave a smile, after that minute, remembering her and some of their adventures. It was just a little fuzzy at times.
