Two people in "Fair City", the city of wonder. A technological wonderland and safe haven for those too scared or too smart to wander the wastelands. The landscape outside of the city might be in ruins, but there's enough strife inside the protective walls to make it just as dangerous.

As these two brave the city streets, back alley black market deals, and gang related violence, they know the saying "nothing's fair in Fair City" is true.

Roleplay Responses

[+green “I recommend you let me leave. There's no need for either of you to lose your life here.”]The sword wielding man said. His voice was heavily modulated so it would be unrecognizable. Denari could see that in the marauder's offhand, he was holding a data-container.

[+blue “I'm not going to let that happen.”] She heard Andros say and with a thrust of his hand, a bolt of blue magical energy came from his palm. The man spirals out of the way, closing the distance between them with an expertise he has rarely seen in a fight.

Denari seemed to have been thrown to the other side of the room as well, and he couldn't tell if she put up a fight or not at the moment. After a few moments she opened her eyes again feeling a rush of pain flow through her body. She hadn't even had the chance to get even a few feet into the room before being blown back.

[+green “Stay down. I don't want to kill you.”] Denari heard the other man say. Her vision was still a little fuzzy she could see Andros begin to get to his feet, and the masked marauder points their sword his way. She watched his right hand going in to his pocket. In another instant, the man raised his sword as Andros' hand flies from his pocket, a circular device is thrown to one of the adjacent walls, as his free hand points at the marauder, a purple beam lancing through the air and striking their hand.

Immediately, the man is sent across the room led by his hand towards the device sticking to the wall, the data-container and their sword leaving their hands. She groaned slightly not trying to get up at this point and just watching the other two as they fought it out.

Despite the man being pinned to the wall by one of his hands, he still managed to be a hassle. Andros dove for one of the side-tables in the room; a gun was strapped underneath it. But just as he moved to grab it, there was a sharp and intense pain in his left shoulder, and it took away the momentum of his dive. Instead of sliding towards the table, he hits the ground, gripping his shoulder, a throwing dagger sticking out of it.

[+blue “Son of a bitch!”] Andros shouts, and with a start, he turns to look at the man pinned to the wall, only to find that he was no longer there, barely catching a glimpse of him leaving through the window like he had tried to before. It was sort of a relief that they didn't have to fight the guy anymore, since, you know, he was light years ahead of them when it came to combat, and not to mention that strange power he had that somehow negated their magic.

He'd have to figure this guy out, because there was no way in the hell this was the last time Andros and Denari would be seeing him... But that was an issue for a little later. The problem in the immediacy that Andros had to deal with was this dagger in his shoulder. He was bleeding pretty badly and could already feel himself getting a little faint... It was a little bit of the blood loss, but mostly because he hated the sight of blood, it made him nauseous and lightheaded. Saying that though, the wound was far from superficial, it needed to be dealt with, and in the quickest way possible since it seemed Denari and him needed to be on their feet and moving through this now.

[+blue “Are you alright, Denari?”]Andros calls to the room. He didn't really look around since moving hurt like a bitch.[+blue “If you're willing and able, I need you to take me to Vi's. We could use a healer on our team, and hopefully someone who call figure out who the hell that guy is.”]

Denari managed to stand up slowly and make her way over to where Andros was laying in a pool of his own blood. She bent down taking one of his arms and putting it over her shoulder.

Denari grunted as she stoop up lifting him off the floor the best she could.[+red "Can you put pressure on your legs to walk?"] she asked looking over at him.[+red "You will have to tell me where she lives and the best way to get their from here.I'm not sure how to two of use would be perceived on the street right now all bloody, broken, and bruised."]She smiled down at him a little anguish showing in her face.

[h3 Quick scuffle]

[+red “I recommend you let me leave. There's no need for either of you to lose your life here.”] The sword wielding man said. His voice was heavily modulated so it would be unrecognizable. Andros' eyes narrow at him. He could see that in the marauder's offhand, he was holding a data-container. Considering all of the coincidences that seemed to be happening today, it wasn't much of a stretch to assume they wanted his research on the Ley lines. Could this person be the same person who guided Denari through the Compendium? Did they work for the Council?

[b “I'm not going to let that happen.”] And with a thrust of his hand, a bolt of blue magical energy comes from his palm. The man spirals out of the way, closing the distance between them with an expertise he has rarely seen in a fight. Andros barely manages to duck a punch, only to lower himself right in to a knee that rocks his head backwards. The blow left him fuzzy enough where he didn't know what happened next, but Denari seemed to have been thrown to the other side of the room as well, and he couldn't tell if she put up a fight or not at the moment.

Andros begins to get to his feet, and the masked marauder points their sword his way. [+red “Stay down. I don't want to kill you.”] And Andros smirks a little at that, his right hand going in to his pocket. Although the man was wearing a mask, Andros could tell his eyes widened fro underneath it. In another instant, the man raises his sword as Andros' hand flies from his pocket, a circular device is thrown to one of the adjacent walls, as his free hand points at the marauder, a purple beam lancing through the air and striking their hand. Immediately, the man is sent across the room led by his hand towards the device sticking to the wall, the data-container and their sword leaving their hands. Honestly, he was aiming for the sword to disarm the man, but this worked just as well.

The next moment was imperative, and it all seemed like it was in slow motion... However, Andros' reflexes weren't as good as the highly skilled warrior's. [+red “They knew what I was going to be doing.”] Denari said, and that struck Andros like a ton of bricks. .[+red "It was too easy to get in and out. It was too easy to get the schematics... I'm an excellent hacker but that was just too planned..."] They didn't want anyone to be touching their stuff, let alone Andros and Denari. And how would they know about their plan? Only Andros and Denari were privy to that information...

And that's when Denari asked the same question that was on his mind. [+red "What now?”]

[+blue “I'm not too sure; this doesn't make any sense. At this point, it'd all be up to the council to do something, not us.”] Which was problematic. But if they wanted Andros to have the schematics and all that, why wouldn't they just give it to him? Or at least give him more leeway on his Ley line theory. Denari nodded letting out a long sigh.

So does that mean someone on the council did or someone else entirely?[+blue “The council reacted as you'd expect. 'Its out of their hands' and all that, but that's what we expected. I'm more concerned about this job I had you do, though. That's a lot more suspicious and conniving than the council is capable of.”]

When they finally got back to the apartment, Andros enters with a huff, tossing his coat on to the coat rack, and heading for the wall safe. [+blue “Yeah, just drop it where you did last time.” ]Andros agrees looking at Denari before turning back to the picture covering the wall safe... And something seemed off.She nodded starting the drop off process.

And his question was immediately answered when there was a small rustling sound in his bedroom. In one fluid motion, he turns, twisting his hand and pulling, the door flinging open with unseen magical force. Inside was his bedroom, and just like Andros' life, it was a mess. However, the most unusual thing in his room wasn't the fact that he was clearly a slob. It was the ninja looking thing clad in armor and an Oni mask halfway out his window.

[+blue “Denari!”]He shouts, and his reflexes kick in, and with another motion of his hand, he pulls the masked man back in to the apartment. There normally would be more force behind the pull, but the masked man's body glowed red slightly, and it was almost like his magic disappeared from around him, making Andros stumble a little bit. Denari heard Andros' shout and immediately stood up sprinting into the other room.

[+blue “Shit.”] He mumbles under his breath, as the masked man begins to pull a samurai sword from his back, the blade glowing red with the same kind of energy as before. Denari stopped suddenly in the door way and stared at the masked name.[+red "Holy shit."] she said looking at the sword and feeling the strange energy coming from it. Denari snapped her fingers and lite the flame that was part of her magic. She looked over at Andros to see what he was going to do next.

[h3 Intruder alert]

“They knew what I was going to be doing.” Denari said, and that struck Andros like a ton of bricks. ."It was too easy to get in and out. It was too easy to get the schematics... I'm an excellent hacker but that was just too planned..." What the hell was that supposed to mean? The council let her in? Why? They didn't want anyone to be touching their stuff, let alone Andros and Denari. And how would they know about their plan? Only Andros and Denari were privy to that information...

And that's when Denari asked the same question that was on his mind. "What now?”

[b “I'm not too sure; this doesn't make any sense. At this point, it'd all be up to the council to do something, not us.”] Which was problematic. 'Its out of their hands' and all that, but that's what we expected. I'm more concerned about this job I had you do, though. When they finally got back to the apartment, Andros enters with a huff, tossing his coat on to the coat rack, and heading for the wall safe. [b “Yeah, just drop it where you did last time.”] Andros agrees looking at Denari before turning back to the picture covering the wall safe... And something seemed off.

He reaches up and tilts the picture slightly like he normally did. Why was it straight?

Once out, Andros spots Denari immediately who was non-chalantly waiting for him. Quickly, he moves up next to her, and they begin walking their way back to his apartment complex. He doesn't say anything until they are a fair distance away from the council building. She followed him as they walked down the street away from the council building.

[+blue “Good work getting in. I assume since the alarms didn't go off immediately you were able to recover the schematics?”] It was more or less a rhetorical question. Denari nodded with a frown on her face.He didn't doubt Denari was able to get the information they needed to move on, but at the same time, he still wanted to ask.

[+blue “I'm sorry I put you in that situation. Remote hacking can be risky business, but I promise you, this is all for a good cause.”]He said that a lot, but it was hard to quantify how it was a good cause. She sighed.[+red "They knew that I was going to be doing."]

Denari looked towards the ground.[+red "It was to easy to get in and out. It was to easy to get the schematics..I'm an excellent hacker but that was just to planned.."] She shook her head in frustration. The road that they walked down would lead them back to Andros' building.

Denari went back through the whole scenario as they walked. She just couldn't figure out how they knew and why they let her get to that point. Reaching the building she followed him back up to his apartment. [+red "What now?"]

Denari asked as she climbed the stairs. She lit up another cigarette with the snap of her fingers and stuck it into her mouth. Once reaching the correct door she walked into the apartment and sat down on the floor leaning against a wall. Denari took a drag of the cigarette and looked up at Andros. [+red "How did the Council react?"]

She asked with a slight smile on her face. Denari could just imagine their reaction and it made her smile. She wasn't very found of the council and their decisions. Denari wasn't a "Favored" so she felt like she was always looked down on because her parent's were "Favored".

Her treatment of better when they were alive but once they died she was just pushed to the side. After Denari finished her first cigarette she lit a second one.She put her head in on her hands feeling the code running through her body.

Denari was fully downloading the schematics file so she could give it to Andros.[+red "Do you want the folder in the same spot as the last one?"] She asked looking up at him again. Denari hadn't really noticed him entirely until she was looking closely at him now.

[h3 A good cause]

There was a bit of a silence as the letters continued to flash on the screen; an eternity seemed to pass before anyone so much as reacted to it. However, that could be because Andros found himself under the microscope, as the members of the council slowly turned their gaze from the holoscreen to the young and prying Sorcerer. He was hoping to have been on the way out before any of the alarms tripped, but he [i did] get a little carried away in his part of the plan. Andros was really invested in this research.

“What is this?” Lars asks, motioning to the screen while looking Andros' way.

[b “It says 'Compendium Breached'... But that's impossible isn't it?”] He did his best to seem dumbfounded, but that was hard; he wasn't surprised a lot, and it was a very unfamiliar and complex emotion to him. And because of that, he could tell the others thought he had something to do with this... Which was right, but at the same time, there was a lot of doubt cast over the situation because of where he was standing. [b “You think I had something to do with this don't you?”]

“To be fair, Ozlo, you are well known for your schemes.” Xendrix says, the man looking a little displeased, and Andros frowned. Xendrix was literally the only one he liked on the council, so when it felt like he was being scolded by him, he felt kind of like a child.

“Not to mention his crackpot theories.” Another member interjects.

“Which are generally correct. He's batting a thousand so far.” Xendrix chides. “But his theories aren't the issue right now.”

[b “Well, I didn't do it. I'm not much of a hacker, and as [i everyone] can attest, I've been standing here the entire time.”]

“I've seen you hack before.” Xendrix says, and then realizes what he's said, a few of the other members casting their gazes his way.

[b “Yeah, doors maybe. But that's mostly manual overrides with hardware I have, or rewiring. Not software.”]

“Fair enough. Get out. We'll look in to this, so in the mean time, Ozlo, don't leave the city.” Xendrix says, waving his hand at Ozlo who grins.

[b “I didn't plan on it.”] He says with a wink and then turns on his heel to leave the building. Once out, Andros spots Denari immediately who was non-chalantly waiting for him. Quickly, he moves up next to her, and they begin walking their way back to his apartment complex. He doesn't say anything until they are a fair distance away from the council building.

However, Andros was right on the money most of the time, so if he thought it was a good cause, it probably was... But that could be the arrogance talking.
  Andros / MarkyMark / 39d 17h 50m 7s
Denari saw the side of Andros' mouth quirked up at her comment.[+blue "Don't get too cocky.”]He says, pointing a finger at Denari, her cigarette extinguishing. She frowned taking the cigarette out of her mouth and tossing it into the nearest trashcan. Denari watched him as he grabbed his coat from the rack, putting it on, and then motions for the door.

[+blue “Remember to stick to the plan. Two blocks away from the building, we split off, I go in alone, you sneak in five to ten minutes after and work your magic.”] She nods putting on her coat now too walking towards the door.[+red "Got it."] Her specialty was software, not hardware after all. Hardware was Andros' and this made them a good team.

[+blue “After you, Denari. Greatness awaits!”]

Denari headed out the door in front of him and proceeded down the stairs.Like the beginning of the plan, the two split off, and Andros headed in to the large and bright building that holds the council meetings. Denari waited a few minutes and then entered another part of the large and bright building.

She stuck to the shadows making her way towards the archive room. Once reaching the door she used a combination of magic and mechanical parts of her one arm,Denari began trying to lock pick the door. After a few seconds the latch clicked and she was in. Once inside Denari walked over to the large computers and inserted some wires out of her arm connecting to the mainframe.

She began her search trough files, firewalls, virus software, and anything else the council had put to keep others out. Denari was searching for the Compendium like Andros wanted. She stopped in her search for a moment to copy the schematics to Fair City. Moving on Denari continued the search.[+orange "This might take a little bit of time."] She thought hoping Andros had a lot to talk about.

Denari scanned what she was looking at before typing in some complex lines of code to get through a firewall. The more code she entered the closer she got to the the Compendium.[+red "Almost there."] Denari whispered as started having to type faster. Finally after about five minutes of typing the Compendium program popped up on the large screen.

[+red "Here we go."]

Denari clicked into the program hoping for the best. She was only in there for about five minutes when a few red flashing lights come on and sirens went off.[+red "Shit."] she said quickly pulling out the wires and erasing everything that could trace this back to her. Denari sprinted to the door opening and closing as fast as she could. She made her way to the door she had entered.

Denari had gotten a small amount of information from the Compendium and the the schematics. It was something but not enough. She snuck into a dark alley and made her way to the front of the building to wait for him. Denari was going over what she had done in her head to try and figure out what went wrong, what had she missed, and how she could of done better.

[h3 Out of everyone's hands]

The side of Andros' mouth quirked up at Denari's comment. He was glad she was confident in herself enough where she thought this would be easy, and hopefully it would. However, he didn't need her to get cocky and get herself caught... But to be fair, she was also a Sorcerer like himself. The technological portion of this endeavor could be handled by her software skills, and the magical defenses in place like Wards, could be bypassed by her use of magic... However, saying that, one arrogant Sorcerer to another. [b “Don't get [i too] cocky.”] He says, pointing a finger at Denari, her cigarette extinguishing. The both of them could probably get knocked down a peg or two, especially in his case. Andros was cocky as shit, but it was because he was just as smart. Having magic made him that much more of a pain in the ass to deal with.

Grabbing his coat from the rack, he puts it on, and then motions for the door. [b “Remember to stick to the plan. Two blocks away from the building, we split off, I go in alone, you sneak in five to ten minutes after and work your magic.”] There was more to it, but those were basically the footnotes. Andros liked to be overly prepared for everything, but in this situation, he had to be the opposite or else the people on the Council would know what was up. He's been a thorn in their side long enough where they would smell a scheme of his a mile away if it involved them... Which it has several times in the past. That's why this plan was going to seem more like a coincidence than one of his kooky capers... Or at the very least, as close to a coincidence as possible. They'd know it was him for sure, they just wouldn't be able to prove it. His specialty was hardware, not software after all.

[b “After you, Denari. Greatness awaits!”]

[pic https://i.imgur.com/anldbAw.jpg]

Like the beginning of the plan, the two split off, and Andros heads in to the large and bright building that holds the council meetings. He's greeted with a mix of love and hate, but mostly he was liked among the magical community. Lots of the time, he was the only one who would speak up to the council with his outlandish theories, and a good portion of the time be right about them. He figured that;s why the council wasn't super fond of him, it made it seem like they weren't exactly doing much... Which, well, was kind of true if we're being completely honest. They represented those with magical abilities, but not much else.

And walking in to the big circular room with the members of the council all sitting up high behind their hover desks, Andros' face mirrored his feeling towards them. That small lopsided smirk where it seemed like he believed he was the smartest person in the room... Yeah, Andros definitely needed to be taken down a few pegs.

“Ozlo Andros,” One of the older members, Lars begins. “We've been told that you have another theory regarding the fissure.”

[b “Yes, but not just one. Many.”] And they all looked confused which made him smile. [b “There's multiple fissures. Or as I like to refer to it: 'Ley Lines'. Magical fissures spanning the globe, all connected, and one of which I believe, is right here in Fair City.”]

The members of the council floated a little closer to each other to whisper, all seemingly confounded by Andros' claims. And honestly, he couldn't blame them. They didn't look in to things, just took tax payer money and sit around all day bitching.

“Do you have proof, Ozlo?” One of the younger members, Vance Xenrix asks. It wasn't a malicious question. Xenrix was one of the few members on the council who often listened to Andros instead of waiting for his turn to talk. He might seem prying, but he was usually interested.

[b “I do actually.”] Andros responds, pulling back a piece on his mechanical arm, pressing a few buttons, and then motioning towards one of the large screens. On the holoscreen, it shows the old world maps—yes more gasps at that—and the Ley Lines accompanied by the numerous mathematical formulas he didn't expect any of them to understand. Magic being connected to science or being a science not yet understood wasn't exactly a firm belief around here.

“And how did you get these maps?” Of course that would be their first question.

“Lets hear what he has to say before we ask him those questions.” Xenrix says, motioning towards Andros. “Go ahead, I'm sure I'm not the only one who is interested to hear the Ley Line theory.”

[b “Thanks.”] Andros says, and the other Sorcerer winks. [b “So the Ley Lines is sort of a metaphysical belief back in the old world, not exactly taken seriously by the general populace. Just like how magic was believed to be make-believe back then too.”]

“And how do you know that?”

[b “By reading and researching.”] And a few snickers resound around the room. [b “So, Ley Lines are apparent alignments of land forms, places of ancient religious significance or culture, often including man-made structures. They are ancient, straight 'paths' or routes in the landscape which are believed to have spiritual significance. However, the Ley Lines of the old world, and the Ley Lines of the modern world,”] He moves his mechanical hand to move to the next slide, a map of the modern world, and the Ley Lines shifted, even more mathematical equations next to them. [b “have shifted. And as you can see here:”] He zooms in, following one of the lines all the way to the mega city of Fair City. [b “We're sitting in one.”]

“Preposterous! How are we supposed to believe that? If we were sitting on a Ley Line, don't you think everyone who was magically inclined would know about it?”

[b “It depends on how the city was made.”]

“Ozlo has a point there. The modern world was built around being able to negate or at least not be interfered with by magic. Its possible that wherever this Line sits, it could be blocked.” Xenrix interjects, and the others move together again to whisper amongst each other. He could tell they were annoyed that they might have to actually do stuff in the neat future, like the mountains of paperwork it would take for this investigation if they wanted to take it off the ground... Which was unlikely.

Once everyone was done whispering to each other, they turn back Andros. “And what is it that you would like us to do about this discovery?”

[b “[i Something] would be nice.”] More snickers. [b “But mostly I would like some sort of research team to look in to this, with me on it. Or even, I'd be willing to look in to it myself, I would just need the funds, equipment, and access to the lower levels of Fair City.”] The lower levels were dangerous. The mutants from the outside some times found their ways in, their were gangs, trafficking of all sorts of things, the undesirables of the city, and many other things that kept little kids up at night.

“You'd probably need the schematics to Fair City as well.” Xenrix says, and Andros sarcastically hits himself in the head as if he didn't think of that.

[b “That would be nice too. It'd make looking in to this a lot easier. Add it to the list.”]

“This is where it comes out of our hands, Ozlo. If we were going to go through with this, since you need restricted access and documents, we have to go through the municipality of Fair City. We're technically not a governing body, we hold sway, but we can't just hit 'yes' and you be on your way.” Xenrix says, and that confused him. Sure they could, they've done stuff like that many times before.

[b “Couldn't you ask?”]

“We could, but it could take months, and a lot of credits if they try and take it out of our hands and we fight them on it.”

[b “But its magic! Isn't that what you guys are here for?”]

“Technically,” Lars interrupts. “But it's also a Fair City concern, which means it is up to the municipality, not us.”

[b “So basically what you're telling me is: if this is going to get done, you guys have to go to the municipality and chat with them about it?”]

“Yes.”

[b “And you're not going to do that.”]

“Correct.” And Andros rolls his eyes. “If your flimsy Ley Line theory is even true, what good could come of it?”

[b “Tons! We could actually study a fissure and figure out more about magic and how it has affected the world! You know as well as I do that radiation doesn't just mutate things in to monsters! There's more to explore and understand!”] And just as he was about to go on more of a rant, a few red flashing lights come on. His little slide show on the holoscreen is replaced by a message: Compendium Breached.

[b “Shit.”] Andros says under his breath.

Denari heard the door open to the sound of Andros talking to her. [+blue “D!”] Andros says letting the hacker in to his apartment. She walked in the door spotting this other lady.[+purple “So this is the one who hacked in to the archives?”] Vira asks, already standing, arms crossed, an eyebrow quirked. She had a small smile on her face as she looked at Denari.[+blue “Very impressive. Oz always seems to meet the most interesting people.”]

[+blue “Yourself included, Vi.”]Andros says with a sideways smile. She looked this woman up and down. This Vi looked kind of familiar to her. Denari was sure she had seen her before somewhere she couldn't pinpoint where though.[+purple “Naturally.”]Vira responds with a small bow.

[+purple “I think I'll take my leave, I have my sister to see, and I assume you two have some important and private matters to discuss. A pleasure to meet you, D. I wish you both the best with the council.”] And with that, the Favored leaves the apartment shutting the door behind her. Denari opened her mouth just as the women left to the apartment, she wanted to correct her name before everyone started calling her that.Denari looked back over at Andros.[+blue “She's an identical twin and you would not believe how different the two are.”] Denari grimaced at the thought of two of them.

[+blue “Anyways, on to business.”] She nodded and replied [+red "Yes that.."] Denari watched as he pointed to his chalkboard with the mathematical equations, and the crudely drawn map.[+blue “As you know, I have been researching in to Ley Lines, and with the map you provided me, I was able to figure out that we actually have one running through Fair City. I'm not sure where exactly it is, I need more documentation, and schematics of the city... Which are all in the council's Compendium.”] Denari nodded.[+blue “So as you probably know, getting in to the Compendium is no small feat, but since you got in to the Archives, I have no doubt in my mind that you'll be able to do it, there just might be a little more grunt work. I plan on presenting my research to the Council, but I know they're not going to hand over their stuff which is why I need you to break in and get it for me while I'm there doing that. It throws suspicion on me, but I couldn't possibly be the one to have hacked in with the entire council witnessing me not doing it, right?”]

She placed thumb and fore finger up to her chin nodding as he talked. Denari could already see the equations running through her head and how she was going to accomplish this feat. She watched him walk across the room, Andros moved a painting on the wall, and opened a safe. He holds out a stack of credit chips towards Denari. [+blue “Obviously there will be more of this once we complete the job. You're the only one skilled enough to get in to the Compendium, and I'm the only one smart enough to believe my bullshit. If you want to walk away, just take the money and go, I can figure something else out, but know that this is really important. Like, 'once in a thousand years' important.”] She took the sack from him and counted a few of the chips.[+red "This should be a piece of cake."]

Denari pulled out another cigarette sticking it in her mouth and using some magic to light it. She looked over at him the lite cigarette in between her teeth with a big smile on her face. To her Andros's theory made sense it was the only thing that could make sense about the way their world was.

[h3 The Compendium]

Before there was even a knock, Andros' head turned towards the door. The resounding knock caused him to make a 'come hither motion' with his hand which should've opened the door magically... But it didn't. [b “Right.”] Andros mumbles to himself, standing up from his chair to open the door manually.

Andros sort of 'magic' proofed his stuff. It was sort of part of his tinkering, and a part of a lot of functioning technology. With the appearance of people with Magic hundreds of years ago, it wasn't long before it was discovered that people with magic—more specifically, Sorcerer's—could fuck with technology. Mostly by disabling them or making it hard for them to work, but in modern society, a lot of tech was 'magic-proofed', including and not limited to Andros' many technological/magical doodads and gadgets. It'd be kind of a shame if he accidentally blew himself up, after all, especially since he messed with plenty of dangerous shit.

[b “D!”] Andros says once he finally opens the door, letting the hacker in to his apartment. He acted like he was very familiar with her, but in actuality, they were acquaintances. He didn't know all that much about her and vice versa. At the moment they knew each other through 'work'.

[+blue “So this is the one who hacked in to the archives?”] Vira asks, already standing, arms crossed, an eyebrow quirked. She had a small smile on her face as she looked at the girl. [+blue “Very impressive. Oz always seems to meet the most interesting people.”]

[b “Yourself included, Vi.”] Andros says with a sideways smile.

A pleasure to meet you, D. I wish you both the best with the council.”] And with that, the Favored leaves the apartment shutting the door behind her.

[b “She's an identical twin and you would not [i believe] how different the two are.”] It was almost like night and day. They were both Favored, but Vira's sister, Renna was ice cold, and despite being a healer, practiced more in combat despite not having any magical abilities attuned to that area. [b “Anyways, on to business.”] And he points to his chalkboard with the mathematical equations, and the crudely drawn map.

[b “As you know, I have been researching in to Ley Lines, and with the map you provided me, I was able to figure out that we actually have one running through Fair City. I'm not sure where exactly it is, I need more documentation, and schematics of the city... Which are all in the council's Compendium.”] The region of Fair City had the archives while the council had basically the exact same thing, but they called it 'the Compendium'. And it had to be accessed while inside the actual Compendium. [b “So as you probably know, getting in to the Compendium is no small feat, but since you got in to the Archives, I have no doubt in my mind that you'll be able to do it, there just might be a little more grunt work. I plan on presenting my research to the Council, but I know they're not going to hand over their stuff which is why I need you to break in and get it for me while I'm there doing that. It throws suspicion on me, but I couldn't possibly be the one to have hacked in with the entire council witnessing me not doing it, right?”] It was kind of a big gambit, but it was the only hand Andros had. Once they had the information they needed, it would be smooth sailing from there.

Walking across the room, Andros moves a painting on the wall, and opens a safe. He holds out a stack of credit chips towards Denari. [b “Obviously there will be more of this once we complete the job. You're the only one skilled enough to get in to the Compendium, and I'm the only one smart enough to believe my bullshit. Making her way down a crowded street Denari looked up at cloudy sky. There was a high chance of rain this afternoon, she was looking to get some target practice before then. Looking at this girl on the outside a person could not tell that she is a hacker and engineer by trade, who is a Sorcerer by birth. The only thing people usually see is the scar on her face, mechanical arm,and the color of her hair. As an orphan she really never trusted people and was often seen alone.

When her parents were killed Denari had been stranded in the outer lands, she was attacked by one of the outlying creatures. It was killed and she was left with the disfiguring scar on her face. Denari could feel the stares as she walked past. She doubted that they knew she was the hacker that had gotten into the archives so that some old world maps could be accessed. It was hard to know on the street who was on the council these days.

Denari could feel drops of rain on her face, she moved under the awnings as she continued down the street. Crossing the street she shielded her face with her arm. The rain bounced off with a tinging sound. Once under the building awnings again Denari took out a cigarette and lit it with the snap of her fingers. She quickly flew out the flame once the cigarette was lit and stuck it in her mouth.

The smoke floated in the misty chilly air. Walking a few more blocks she stopped in front of a brightly lit apartment building. It looked like almost every other building in the city. They were all very brightly lit, with all the technology and people not matter what time of day. Denari opened the door and made her way up the stairs with the cigarette still in her mouth.

She made her way up to one of the top floors. Reaching the right door Denari could hear two people speaking inside.[+blue "Semantics. There's a girl I know who got into the archives, so I was able to get my hands on some old world maps. Ley Lines haven't been hypothesized in hundreds of years! Not even by the council."] she heard the man say.
if this was infidelity the right place then she knew the man who was talking was her dear friend Ozlo Andros.[+blue "And I've noticed some correlations with the activities of the creatures in the wastes and their proximity to what I believe to be the Ley Lines. I don't think there's just one big fissure somewhere. I think there's a lot of small ones scattered around the world, connecting with each other."]

Denari heard him talk again and then she heard a women's voice. [+purple "That's sounds like BS to me, and the Council isn't going to look in to it."] She had know idea who this women was and now wasn't sure if she wanted to even knock on the door. Denari scratched the back of her head before she knocked on the door.[+orange "So much for getting any target practice done."] she thought looking out one of the windows waiting for Oz to open the door.

[h3 Theories]

It was a cloudy afternoon with a high chance of rain in Fair City, but bad weather was something that wasn't exactly uncommon in this region of America... or really any region. You see, a long time ago, there was a war. A World War no less, and obviously it didn't end well for anyone considering the state the Earth was in. Nuclear fallout aside, stripping most of the land of its wealth and mutating certain beings, there was one more thing tagged on to the list of horrors. Magic. Something that was believed to have only existed in fairy tales, but it turned out to be just as real as the atrocities now walking the Earth. They're not quite sure how nuclear missiles had anything to do with magic, but somehow the two were connected. Research on the matter has been far and in between since the Magical fissure brought upon by the nuclear fallout was believed to be out in the wastelands, outside of the protective walls of the many mega cities dotting the land, so research on the matter was given up on long ago...

Well, until recently. Ozlo Andros, an engineer and tinkerer by trade, and Sorcerer by birth, has come up with a new hypothesis as to where the magic came from and why not long after people and creatures began to emerge with special gifts. It was something he had theorized for a while, but had only recently come to a conclusion based on scientific fact... Yes, he believed magic and science were connected, an uncommon belief he often advocated for, resulting in people thinking he was nuts.

[b "I believe it has something to do with Ley Lines. I'll just explain it like I was explaining it to a five year old."] Andros says, and the woman across from him scoffs. They were in his apartment, a shabby little thing with lots of nick nacks, books, spare parts, and novelties strewn about. He lived in The Narrows, a shittier part of Fair City. His magical and technical expertise, and ability to combine the two paid the bills, but his services were intended to be kept under the radar, so business wasn't exactly booming.

[+blue "That's a little rude."] The woman, Vira says to him. She was a fairly tall woman with dark skin, dark hair, and very easy on the eyes. She was also a "Favored", a healer and naturalist essentially, and normally Sorcerers and Favored didn't exactly get along, but Andros and Vira were apparently the exceptions.
Although Magical individuals were still relatively rare, there was still sort of a hierarchy in regards to them. Favored were, well, favoured for their healing abilities, especially considering how rare they were, while Sorcerers were viewed a little more barbaric since they had access to 'battle magic' and tended to be pompous and self-absorbed; Andros not being an exception in that regard.

[b "Well, I'm not [i trying] to be nice. This could be huge! I've been looking at old maps I found-"]

[+blue "Stole, you mean."] Vira smirks. She wasn't [i exactly] wrong.

[b "Semantics,"] Andros continues. [b "There's a girl I know who got into the archives, so I was able to get my hands on some old world maps. Ley Lines haven't been hypothesized in hundreds of years! Not even by the council."] Oh yeah, there was a Magical council. They weren't huge or anything, but since people with magical abilities were generally one in a hundred people at the very most, the local government decided there should be a governing body to represent them... but really all they did was bitch and complain, Andros being one of their biggest complaints with his 'outrageous' theories and generally overzealous and adventurous attitude. [b "And I've noticed some correlations with the activities of the creatures in the wastes and their proximity to what I believe to be the Ley Lines. I don't think there's just one big fissure somewhere. I think there's a lot of small ones scattered around the world, connecting with each other."] He points to a chalk board that was covered in mathematical equations, and a crudely drawn map of the modern world, dots and lines across it representing the location of Ley Lines.

Vira looks at him for a moment. Like, [i really] takes a look at him with her big beautiful blue eyes. She had eyes you could get lost in, but that might because of her empathetic powers. [+blue "That's sounds like BS to me, and the Council isn't going to look in to it."]

[b "I know. Which is why I'm going to do it myself."]

[+blue "Oz, that's crazy! You know what's out there in the wastes. You know how dangerous it is."]

And Andros frowns at that, flexing his right metallic hand. His entire right arm, all the way past his shoulder was mechanical. It was long ago when he was younger and stupid, out in the wastes himself, believing his gadgets and magic could protect him, but there are things out there that, just like magic, were only believed to be in fairy tales. He still had nightmares.

[b "I know... that's why I'm not leaving the city."] and Vira looks at him confused which makes Andros grin. [b "You can't tell anyone, but I believe there's a Ley Line running through Fair City. If I can find its source, and show my evidence to the council, then my Ley Line theory could be revolutionary! One more piece of the puzzle from the past solved and it could help connect all the mega cities in the region."]

[+blue "How do you intend on doing all this? It sounds kind of crazy, even for you."]

And Andros grins again, pushing some of his dirty blonde hair out of his face. [b "With a little help, of course."]
