Jake had worked so hard and half year after he left... he got his big break... on Janurary 5th his single hit number one.... he had it all... except Destiny. His schedule filled up... he would call her and she wouldn't answer or her parents would tell him she wasn't there.... the days turned into weeks that turned into months that dragged into years.... all the touring... music videos... parties... photo shoots... he was miserable.
One day 4 years after he left... his 23rd birthday to be exact... he snapped on his producer... his manager... and anyone else who was around. He got out his phone and booked a ticket home... He was going to see his girl..... and hoped she was still waiting on him.
Getting out of the Uber he grabbed his bag and guitar and headed to knock on the door of her parents house...he had no idea if she would be there but he had to start somewhere and she hadn't answered his calls.
Destiny watched Jake go, tears running down her face. She was surrounded happy smiling faces, and her’s was the only one that couldn’t smile.
[B Four Years Late...]
Four years had past since the day Jake had left her, and everything else behind to hopefully have his dreams come true. About 3 months after Jake had left, Destiny had been late on her monthly cycles, and she ended up going to her doctor. The best and worst news of her life had happened that day. Destiny had found out she was pregnant.... It was Jake’s son. Destiny didn’t know what to do or think. Would’ve Jake stayed if he knew? Ruin probably the only chance he’d ever have of music? She really didn’t know. Destiny went through the pregnancy with the support of her family and friends. January 5th she gave birth to a son, who was indeed a splitting image of Jake. He had the same strawberry blonde hair, only darker and round chubby cheeks.
Destiny, had gotten her own apartment and raised Oliver, their son. Oliver was now three. He was curious and as stubborn as ever. Going on four, she decided that she probably needed to start pre-school. Oliver loved his grandpa, Jake’s dad. He often visited. He knew he secretly missed his son by the way he looked at Oliver...
Jake nodded holding her, "I have a band waiting for me... I'm going to do it... and if I've not gotten anywhere in six months.... I'll swallow my pride and come home... and forget about all this music stuff." He kissed her hard and whispered, "I love you Babe."
Turning around he picked up his guitar and backpack and headed toward his car. He was trying not to cry but as soon as he was in his car, the tears overtook him.
Destiny gasped, holding her hands to her mouth and looking at Jake. "Yes! O-Of course!" She pulled him to her and wrapped her arms around his waist. "I'll never take it off." She smiled, leaning back and held her hand out for him to put it on. "You didn't have to, you know I'd wait for you and marry you either way!"
She looked at him, "Are you positive you have to go?"
"I will never forget about you... but I got you something too..." He said smiling. He dug in his backpack after putting the guitar pick necklace around his neck. "I love it babe... thank you... but this... this is a promise... a promise that when I come back... hopefully... you'll marry me." He said opening a small black ring box and revealing a silver ring with s diamond and their names on either side of it... their anniversary was engraved on the inside.
Destiny whimpered and started bawling, "P-Please.... do your best.... Dont only do it for me... but for yourself." She sobbed, pulling his head down closer to her and kissing his lips softly. "I-I love you."
She pulled a small box out of her pocket and handed it to him, "I-I got you this... a present for graduation..." She pressed it in his hands, inside was a guitar pick engraved with his name. "Don't forget about me..." She bite her lip trying to hold back the next flood of tears. "I love you Jake."
Jake shook his head, "I've tried that... you know I have... I've been playing here so long that they're tired of me... but I'll come back... I love you I promise I'll come back." The tears were streaming down his cheeks now. He had to do this for them.
"I will make something of myself and come back to you baby... I promise... I love you more than anything... I don't have anyone but you.... my dad.... he basically said don't come back." Jake said leaning his head against her. "I have to do this for us....if I don't go I will always say what if... and if I go and fail... I'll be back faster than if I succeed.... you said it yourself that I'm good enough babe."
Destiny looked Jake's in the eyes, seeing his hurting and despair. she cupped his cheek, "Jake... you know I can't.... my family is here. I need to be here for them..." She bit her lip and hugged him hard, gripping the back of his shirt.
"Y-You don't have to go do you? You can still stay here. Do some gigs, maybe you could get discovered here. We can get an apartment and move in.... I just can't leave my parents.... I'm the only one they have." She didn't want him to do this, He'd leave... and probably not come back...
Jake watched her with her friends and waited. He would wait forever for her... but this was something he had to do for them.... if he didn't he would end up at a dead end job and struggle for the rest of his life to make sure she had everything she deserved.
"Babe..." He sighed pulling her into his arms finally. The tears were welling up in his eyes already. "I can't do this...." He muttered shaking his head, "Babe I'm leaving... come with me?" Jake was losing his mind, if she didn't go... this was it... 6 years of dating came to this and he was afraid she wouldn't go.
Destiny was on the verge of tear's in her eyes from all the laughing she was doing. When she saw Jake wave and the look on his face. She frowned, waving him over. "Jake..." She tried to walk over to him, but she was pulled into another round of pictures.
"Sorry." She mouthed to him, a reassuring smile on her face. She bit her lip worried about him but concealed it with fake smiles and poses with her friends....
Jake grabbed his backpack and guitar from his locker... the last time he would ever use the thing. "Dad I'm leaving.... consider me gone." His dad shook his head and walked away.... "I won't be waiting for you to come back."
Jake shook his head, "I wouldn't expect you to." He sighed walking away to find Destiny. He saw her with some of their friends taking pictures. He was tall, 6 foot 7 and everyone was used to seeing him carrying his guitar case. He waved to her, his face was like stone. He didn't want to do this... he didn't want to leave her. He wanted her to go with him.... all he could do was ask...
"Destiny, sweetie we are so proud of you." Her father hugged her happily, while her mother stood back crying. "Y-Yes, very proud! You've grown up s-so much!" She mother whimpered, holding her tightly. "Thanks mom, but you can let me go now."
"Destiny! Come over here and take some pictures with us!" A few of her friends called her over, She looked around for Jake wanting some with him in them too. They had been through so much, and they had done everything together. "Okay, coming!" She excused her self from her parents and skipped over to her friends.
She didn't know where Jake was at that moment, but she had a feeling it had to do with his dad. His dad never approved of anything he did. What she didn't know at that moment was she had a Jake's child in her, and he would never know.
"Jake stop!" his father begged while trying to fight him from leaving and throwing everything he had here away. "Dad no, I'm leaving this God forsaken town... I'm following my dream. I won't end up stuck here... I can't end up stuck here." He said taking off his cap and gown and shoving it into the trash can.
His father shook his head, "Your leaving me, college... your girlfriend, and for what? A silly dream of bring a musician... you know you have a one in a million chance of actually making it in that business?" Jake rolled his eyes, "Yeah and I have no chance if I don't go and at least try." Shaking his head again his father sighed, "Fine go... but you break it to that pretty girl in there that you have been dating since 7th grade that your leaving her and probably not coming back."
Jake sighed, "No I will be back... for her... I'M DOING ALL OF THIS FOR HER!" He screamed. "She believes in me... unlike you!"
