Destiny watched over their conversation carefully, she was not going to have repeats of the past between them. Occasionally his dad would raise his voice and she would shoot him a look.
Finally, Oliver wandered in handing Jake a picture with a huge grin on his face before pulling his grandpa out to the living room, yapping away about how mommy yelled at him and what he had done today.
Jake looked at his father.... "Dad don't yell... please... I didn't know about my son... I would have been back in a heartbeat if I had... but I did it... I made it and that little boy in there will never have to worry about anything his whole life... he will never have to worry about money or where his next meal is coming from like we did when mom was alive."
"Because I didn't want you to ruin anything." She frowned, the perked up when she saw Jake's dad walk in. She got up and hugged him, "I actually invited you to see Jake... he just got back." His dad's face was red, and a bit angry. But he just sighed and pulled him into a hug, Oliver squished in between them.
"You guys should talk... You both need it." Destiny grabbed Oliver from in between them. She set him down by the table with his coloring pages and guided the men into the kitchen standing in the door way. "Please don't yell. Oliver gets upset easily... You know that." She shot a warning look to his dad.
Jake scooped his son up in his arms... "Hey little man... you know your mommy loves you very much and changing your pants isn't soooo bad..." Oliver looked at him like he was crazy and hid his face in Jake's shoulder.
He sighed and sat him down on the couch and asked her, "Destiny... why didn't you call me after... I mean I understand why you didn't tell me but why not after you knew I had made it?"
He heard a truck door slam and heard the door open and shut, his father was there and had let himself in.
"Wheres my grandson?" He said before turning the corner and his eyes fell on Jake...
"Hey dad." Jake said looking at him.
Destiny nodded, and pulled out her phone. "Hey.... Im good.... Yea, yea... Oliver wants to see you.... you'll be here in ten minutes?.. Okay, uh huh... bye." She turned to Jake, "He said he'd be here in ten minutes." She turned to her son, "C'mon lets go get you changed." She picked him up and carried him to his room in her parents house.
She came back out, Oliver was dressed in little cargo pants and a collared shirt. His eyes were a bit teary because he was refusing to change and she scolded him. He ran over and hugged to Jake's leg, glaring at her. "He's always like this." She ran her fingers through her hair.
Jake watched her go and took out his iphone. Calling his manager and label he told them the situation and that he needed some time off... they gave him a month.
He headed into the living room where she was with Oliver and sighed, "I have a month off and then its back to work... hopefully... we can find out what we're going to do until then.... and babe... can you call my dad.... maybe surprise him that I'm here?"
Destiny smiled, looking at the necklace. "I know... I just don't think that it's a good idea to move to New York... Our family is here." She looked at him, her eyebrows scrunched up. "Plus... you know how I am about people... You'll have constant people around you, worrying. Your a busy man.... I want us to be together too." She smiled at him and walked over, hugging him.
"You can go in the other room and make a call. I'll be in the living room with Oliver and my parents. Also... call your dad. He misses you." She squeezed his arm encouragingly and went out to the living room.
Jake watched his son and smiled..."Des... I have a house in New York.... I mean I make my own hours but your right I am busy.... but I don't want to leave you two again." He watched Oliver run to get his crayons and a coloring book. "I'm not leaving you again.... I won't... I want to try us again."
He pulled his necklaces out of his shirt and showed he was still wearing the necklace that she had given him that day...the day he left. "I want to announce to my fans that I'm home and with my family....its all over the news about my breakdown."
"I didn't want you to ruin probably the only chance you'd ever have at your dream... Oliver... I never really told him about you... It was hard talking about you... your dad has changed Jake. He's in love with Oliver." She pressed her lips together watch the two interact with each other.
"He's stubborn when he want's something and he tends to get bossy at times." She laughs as Oliver rushed over back to her nearly falling. He looked up, his eyes sparkling. "Mommy! That's my daddy! My very own daddy!" He giggled, his chubby cheeks rosy red. "I know, but your Daddy is a very busy man and I don't know how long he will be here. So that means you gotta spend bunches of time with him, and make him things like you do with Mommy, 'kay?" She poked his nose.
Jake listened to her but it was alot to process at once.... "Hes ours?" He asked looking at the little boy and seeing his eyes perfectly copied.... his nose.... his everything... "You should have told me... I would have... I would have came home."
His eyes fell to her hand, the small ring still glittered.... "So you.... you waited on me?" The little boy came up to him and tugged on his pants... "Your my daddy?"
Jake knelt down and nodded, "Yeah buddy... I'm your daddy.."
She bit her lip, and held Oliver closer to her. "Just listen... After you left, about three months after you left I was late on my monthly. I thought it was just a hormone thing, but it never came. So I went to the doctor... he tested me and I found out I was pregnant. I didn't want to tell you, I knew you were going to come back if you found out and I didn't want that. So I avoided all contact with you and told my parents to tell you I was gone..." She sighed, looking at him, "I had him three years ago in January. He's yours... can you not tell? I promised you I'd wait... I've never taken the ring off. Never." She smiled, looking down at her hand then picks up Oliver. "Jake, this is Oliver... our son."
Jake nodded and looked like his heart broke in front of him... she had a kid... she had moved on. He dropped his bag on top of his guitar case and followed her into the kitchen silently and leaned against the counter like he used to when they hung out after school. "Des...." He said looking at her and the little boy who seemed to be hiding his face from the strange man.
"I.... I had a break down and I... I came here... I didn't know where else to go... I love you... and if you.. moved on.... I don't know how... I will cope." He said with tears threatening to spill out again.
Destiny bit her lip and smiled, jumping on him and wrapping her legs around his waist kissing him back deeply tears streaming down her face. "I-I know!" She cupped his face, so so happy that he was back.. for however long he was back for.
She got got off of him, her feet landing on the ground. "C-Come in!" She picked up his guitar for him and lead him inside, where Oliver met them slamming into her legs and gripping them. "What's wrong Mommy? Why are you crying?" She smiled and set the guitar down and picked Oliver up. "Because... someone very special has come home." Her parents were sitting down on the sofa watching Destiny. She knew she had to tell Jake. "Let's go into the kitchen." She said to him, while she picked up Oliver and help him on her hip.
Jake had sat his guitar down on the porch and dropped his bag when he seen her, pulling her into his arms. "Des..." He muttered, crying too. He didn't bother asking about the little boy... he was just hoping that whoever his father was..... Destiny hadn't moved on too much.
"I... I did it.... I made it..." He said smiling. He knew she had probably heard his songs on country radio... he was more country rock pop but still... he was one of the most well known in the industry at the moment... "I promised I would come back and I called and your mom and dad said you weren't around and I... I missed you so damn much.'
Jake leaned in and kissed her hard... it felt like they were in high school again.... the fireworks were there.
Destiny was at her parent's house that day, visiting them for a bit. Oliver was with her, of course. Her head perked up as she heard the door, "I'll go get it." She started walking to the door, when she felt a small hand tug on her's. "Mommy... I wanna go see who it is too." Oliver pouted. She sighed and picked him up, holding him on her hip.
She opened the door, and gasped looking at who was standing at the door. Jake. Her childhood sweet heart. Her only love. She was flabbergasted. "J-Jake?" She stuttered looking from Oliver to Jake and back again. "Mommy, who's that?" Oliver tugged on her hair. "G-Go to grandma, sweetie." She put Oliver down sending him off to her mother. She turned back to Jake, her eyes tearing up.
