Okay, first things first:
1. I'm not trying to powerplay and be a shitstick and control your character(s). I'm just tossing ideas! ;;
2. A lot of this is re-writes of what we've discussed. My head is all over the place, so I'm just confirming this.
3. I'm elaborating on the idea I just posted to you before, so please read that before you read this.
4. It is totally okay if you don't want to do this.
5. I would have to roleplay the Empress Dowager to make sure this went seamlessly. Or you would have to. Unless we could get someone on board who was 100% okay with most of this being pre-plotted.
6. The timeline of this does not make sense. At all. I jump back and forth in the timeline here and it doesn't piece together seamlessly at all.
But, here's what I was thinking. Sorry for typos/missed names. And The Unfaithful Consort/The Mother of Shouying is supposed to be Xiang Yang's mother. I changed her title like 5 times, sorry. And it's totally okay if you hate some or any of this! Just tossing things out.
The Prince Of Shouying is born to a consort of the Emperor, who was heavily favoured by the Emperor and was set to become his true wife. Once she gave birth, she would be given the title of Madame and named Empress thereafter. However, it was assumed for it to be the son of the Emperor - but it wasn't. The Emperor was not aware. The Empress Dowager disliked her and believed the woman carrying The Prince Of Shouying to be unfit for her grandson and, once she had begun to waste away, investigated her and found out her secret. She summoned a court and attempted to butter the Ministers to find out who knew and how they dare hide the secret from her - by doing so, offering them wine. She drank herself and was poisoned by The Ambitious Minister and The Scheming Consort. She survived that day, but died very shortly thereafter.
It was heavil known The Empress Dowager was in an active fight between three consorts: The Scheming Consort, The Mother of Shouying and The Empress-To-Be. The first of lowly birth who she deemed unfit. The second of higher birth, however assumed to be involved in treason. The third, known incapable of bearing children without great difficulty (This would explain why The Imperial Heir is only one child. If she struggles with providing children already, it would just make it more likely for her to die in childbirth later on.
Anyways. It's discovered that The Unfaithful Consort/The Mother of Shouying is incapable of becoming the Empress. The Emperor is denied marrying her and The Empress Dowager banishes her and her son - she chooses to keep them alive, because to kill them, it would have to come to light that the child she was carrying was not the Emperor's. Instead, she could simply say that she attempted to kill The Empress Dowager - which would later build up more distrust, for when The Prince of Shouying is later framed for her actual murder. Because, several years before, his mother had been framed for attempting to kill her anyways.
Empress Dowager would then remove The Scheming Consort, as she was of lowly birth and seemed far too ambitious and she would simply bar the Emperor from marrying her. After having her "life threatened", he would have no choice but to do what she said and marry the woman who does become the Empress. When she falls pregnant and becomes weak, I imagine she would be given a C-section of some form, and perhaps even the Emperor could order it after finding out she is carrying a son. This could be a premature birth, which means The Imperial Heir would be physically weak as well and likely suffer from health problems - further making him an untrustworthy contendor. Essentially, the Emperor would sacrifice her. Anyways, the Empress would die either way. This would leave Empress Dowager as Regent for The Imperial Heir. Who would probably only be about six years old by the start of the roleplay and be a bit of a brat, who's constantly sick and doesn't take his duties seriously or is incapable of doing so most of the time, and not show much promise at all.
Which also adds the element in that, even if they were to wait for The Imperial Heir, he would be- .. what, 9-10 years before he could take the throne himself? And he would still be extremely young and unknowledgeable and need at least have his hand held for another 8-10 years before he would know how to rule a country. It would be almost certain The Empress Dowager would die before then and so even she would be in a hurry to appoint someone else, or even a regent to take on the throne until The Imperial Heir would be of age.
So, The Scheming Consort happens to have a son anyways. The Empress Dowager has a constant eye on her and sees how twisted she becomes through everything that is going on. She also notices The Ambitious Minister is extremely close to her and attempts to investigate them, trying to prove that Dou Zhi's child is actually The Ambitious Minister's. Of course, there is no evidence because nothing happened between them. However, doing this sparks memories of the previous years and therefore sets up the trap for her death. Just because she did that, it made the Minister remember and he knows how to kill The Empress Dowager. However, he decides that in killing her off he is doing the single most stupid thing ever because of how well-loved she is. Even so, he poisons her drink at the banquet I mentioned above. However, not with enough to kill her - just to get his message across. However, she then decides to threaten him which just pisses him off. He kills her and blames it on another consort who was falling out of favour before the Emperor died, just because she was getting haughty because of the fact she was likely pregnant with twin boys.
So, now Empress Dowager is dead. This could spark up the Minister of Justice - who would be Cao Shui. As, I consider Cao Shui to be the lovechild of Zhuge Liang and Kye-Sook because that is very much the two characters I intended to attempt to base him off of and I let my fantasies run wild from there. Perhaps, he would be an intelligent child who befriended the Prince of Shouying when they were younger and after he had been banished. Cao Shui is an EXTREMELY intelligent individual and would very easily be able to become a Minister. Perhaps, he then swears an oath of brotherhood with The Prince of Shouying. Therefore, Shouying becomes Soo-Won and Cao Shui his Kye-Sook. He would be utterly loyal to the Prince and defend him.
Question. Just for the added bitchery.
What if the Emperor hadn't had an Empress when your Prince was conceived and he was between choosing his mother as his empress vs the woman who actually becomes the empress? And when she's banished, he takes the other woman as his empress?
Whi h would give him more claim to think he were the rightful prince because his mother would've maybe been only days from her coronation or something and the Empress in all but name?
If you love him then don't rule him out so quickly. I mean, NONE of the characters or even the setting/plot is set in stone right now - there's hundreds of ways to squeeze him in. I'm literally not finished anything and I don't consider myself to have even started working on HM yet. I'm just throwing things into the thread so when I actually take remaking it seriously, I have something to go off of.
Okay! Just do keep in mind the skeleton is very likely to change heavily! I'll look him over when I'm a bit more awake! c:
Would he actually be capable, though? I'm just wondering because maybe I can throw some form of dynamic in. Also, Xiuyin can also be a form of retired strategist or even a mentor or tutor? Like, there's lots of ways we can tie him in - I just don't want to settle on anything for anything/anyone right now because I'm really, really not happy with HM right now so I'm very flaky about it. xD I didn't intend to do characters first so right now I'm just " ???? ; A ; " But, I do like that. I think he could be very interesting and if I can tie some more characters to him, I'd like to in the event he does appear in the final roleplay!
Nope. ; o ; HM is really, really low on my list of priorities and I'm too stressed about other things to really start thinking seriously about it. I just can't take the pressure right now of trying to throw myself 100% in. Not all characters are in place, not anyone is confirmed or created, so- .. atm there's not even a character for me TO take xD
I do love him, but I don't know what to do with him. Maybe I can bring him back if there is someone who takes a big main role that would be okay with a collab to make Xu Xiuyin and their character be close or something and Xu Xiuyin acts a a spy like character for them and gets info from inside the palace and stuff.
I'm working of Xiaoshun right now here: !!! so you can see my ideas if you want.
He thinks he is capable. My idea was that he'd be really idealistic and try to work as an emperor for the people and not for the imperial fam and the palace, so this angers people , thus them looking into his past and finding out he is illegitimate.
Do you have any idea which character(s) you are interested in taking?
WHY YOU CUT HIM? YOU LOVE HIM. Don't rule him out so quickly D:
He's just not in the roster because he's not confirmed to be returning yet, it's not a "you can't bring him back," I'd love for him to come back but there's other main roles I'd just like filled first D:
Would he be a capable emperor though? And as for the general, I do like the idea and will consider it. I did have something pre-planned that I wrote down though, about the general being very close to a concubine . He'd either be a son or uncle or even a brother or something. I do want a character with a VERY strong military command though, who will really be key for keeping the threat of potential civil war. But I do like your idea so maybe I will combine them?
The more established friends/foes and intricate dynamics, the better!!
Okay I am prob gonn cut Xu Xiuyin. Idk.
But I want to model Xiaoshun after Soowon.
Like, my idea for his personality is a little different tho.
Xiaoshun wants to be emperor because he thinks he deserves it and wants it to not only help the people, but to fuel his extravagant lifestyle. He is composed and serious in court and in the palace, but he often goes out with noblemen around his age to party and meet with women.
And I had an idea for if there was someone interested in a general like role. Like, Xiaoshun and the general could've been childhood friends and the general taught Xiaoshun to fight and they became on par. and then either they are on the same team, or they end up fighting and it's kinda similar to what I assume Hak and Soowons relationship is like.
/Takes 50 years to respond. ;;
I think you're right and have an extremely good point, in that regard; but I think that the people who are willing to do that are the ones that will truly put 100% into Heaven's Mandate. It's those writers we want, after all, who will challenge themselves.
Then a main she shall be. <3
I think I might want to have, in the skeleton, "is a known foe of ___" and "is a known friend of ____" so that, automatically, characters might be able to scheme together. However, I don't want to control the bases so much..
As for Xiuyin, I have not a single problem with him! I don't see why he wouldn't be permitted in the roleplay, to be honest; I love the character. I just want to make sure all the base characters are filled, first. ; o ;
And I responded to the rest already! c: <3
I understand the time period being a problem for some people. And a lot of people don't like to take the time out to do some research or ask questions, so it's sad.
I would absolutely love for Dou Zhi to be considered one of the mains <3
My only problem with Xiuyin is that I absolutely love him as a character, but I can't see anything he could do to benefit the plot really. Idk, I just love him so much.
Okay, I'm working on the Bastard Prince . I don't want to leave his surname empty, so is there any surname you had in mind for the royal family or did you not plan to make one rn?
I really do want something amazing- .. but I'm worried by making it too intricate or trying to tailor it to be too heavy on history or the time era, that it will chase people away. That was the problem with HM before, when I invited people; not knowing the time period frightened them and they were too scared to test their limits. I want to do something to put those kinds of people at ease because it was the block for so many amazing writers. Some people I would like to see in this time are writers like Solaris, Knife, KotaKoti. Megu-tan was interested before and I'm sure she'll try again. I don't know who else off the top of my head though - but Knife is someone I roleplay-lust after often.
I think chapters will help organize it, as I can then have a little snippet in the beginning that states some of what is going to happen. Almost like a summary before an episode, that goes over what happened previously. Or, rather, a premise as to what is to come.
To be honest, if nobody knew he was a bastard and you hid it from the skeleton , that would be great for several plot twists, actually. I do like that idea and I think it could bring in quite a bit of an interesting twist, as well as several more layers of deception and intruige; which is what I want.
Dou Zhi will become an official role, if that's okay; I will make The Scheming Consort an actual position and sh- .. I smell fire.
But, I want Dou Zhi to be one of the epicenters of this roleplay. As for Xiuyin, I have no problems with him! I don't think he'll be given the position of a main role though, but I do want all main roles filled before allowing alternate characters in. Otherwise, the roleplay is just too complicated and we don't have characters when we need them.
Yes, chapters would be great! Of course, not having chapters would be great too. No matter what you choose, it will be absolutely great.
I understand not committing right now, though. I will be sure to give you more ideas though!
Yeah, you said you wanted an heir that had a strong backing and a legitimate claim to the throne, so I thought the Bastard Prince would be a good idea. Because, his claim is there and no one knows it's illegitimate. So everyone could be hyped, getting ready for him to take the throne and ready for their new leader, and then boom! He is illegitimate and the other peeps can fight for the throne.
The reason I want to do a third character is because Dou Zhi is, what I assume, as main character. Plus she is considered a contender for the throne. But then I have Xiuyin, who is pretty much a supporting role. Like, he isn't a contendor, nor does he have any power. Idk if you'll even want to keep in HM after your story change tho.
OH GOOD. <3 I'm excited to see what you come up with! I haven't started working on HM yet, but I'll try and get started within the next couple of days. I want to re-work the plot before I do anything else, then move into the rules, then the characters, then a list of things to assist people with. But, HM is the lowest thing on my priority list right now. ;; I have a lot of other things I want to do and I really don't want to rush HM. I want there to be this extremely complex, layered, immersive plot.
I think I want HM to be roleplayed in the form of chapters/episodes, almost.
I'm just about completely asleep and had to draw a diagram on a notepad, but, I think I understand your idea and I do like it. I don't want to 100% commit to any of it yet though but it's definately a good, interesting road I would love to go down.
I'm gonna move all this into the HM thread.
And he'd probably be fairly older than The Imperial Heir. So, if he was believed to be the first son of the Emperor, then rightfully they would think him to be the Crown Prince. But his claim to the throne would be illegitimate; I almost think it should be relatively unknown he wasn't born to the Emperor and have that later revealed as a plot twist. Potentially, opening up a way for him to be murdered for treason.

By the way, I am working on my Bastard Prince right now~
I had an idea that instead of him being born to a servant, he was born to a consort of the emperor, but he wasn't the emperor's son. Like, the emperor either didn't know he wasn't his or he knew and kept it a secret. And his plot twist could be that the Empress Dowager figured out his secret before she died and was going to announce his secret, but then she died.
So the Minister and Dou Zhi try to use him as a scapegoat since all the ministers knew the empress dowager knew a secret of the Bastard Prince, so the frame him for her murder.
And if that sounds cool, than the character I mentioned below could be on the Bastard Prince's side and try to show he is innocent.
Plus, that gives the Minister and Dou Zhi something to actively investigate and do. They could be trying to forge proof that the Bastard Prince killed the Empress Dowager and they could be trying to find out the secret that the Empress Dowger knew about the Bastard Prince.
I don't know if any of that made sense, I just have so many idea xx
TEA / Souji / 2016 Jun 06 15:09:40
Okay, so Dou Zhi's plan is to get her son as the Emperor. So if she were to reach her goal, Dou Zhi would be the empress dowager. But the current one dislikes her because of her ambition and previous low rank. And then the current Empress Dowagershe possibly starts doubting the Ambitious Minister loyalties and maybe threatens him? And so he kills her because not only does she stand in the way of his plans, she also makes him mad by threatening him.
Also, if we do the empress dowager is murdered plot, we could have a character that works in the Ministry of Justice. He could be like the ancient version of an investigator, and he could be trying to find out how the empress dowager was killed. He could be a good version of a Kye-sook character and work with/under one of the good mains.
... The Ambitious Minister murders her as a means to put Dou Zhi on the throne as the Empress though. Empress Dowager was preventing Dou Zhi becoming the Empress and he murders her to increase her chances as well as plainly get her out of the way.
Wait a minute!!! Idk if you'll like this, but Imma throw it out their anyways.
You know how most shows or stories have an exposition before the rising action and what not?
We could have the empress dowager there for the beginning alive, but she is either murdered or she dies naturally and that's when everything really sets off and the fighting starts happening. Her death could be a major plot twist.
Like, who gets put on the throne is mostly depends on her and no one can really go against her, but then she dies and chaos happens.
= /Throws pretty font out the window because I'm too lazy right now. xD
Hmm.. Something like that might actually be okay! It does give room for another contendor; which is something that I need. I admittedly also want a character who is heavily backed by the army; I want a severe threat of civil war to be a huge theme in the roleplay. I want that suspense that this character can literally take the throne at any point.
Regardless if they choose to take it themselves, or are willing to fight for someone else.
I do want an Empress Dowager, even if she's an NPC. But an Empress Dowager would still make the Royal Family stable; even without an Emperor. She would still be the acting regent. So would an Empress Dowager be needed? ;;
BUT I LOVE YOUR IDEA. RUN WITH IT. We'll see where it goes and if it sparks your joy and your inspiration, DO it! <3
I just meant I prob wouldn't end up responding to everything you put in your post.
I had this idea for a character. He's kinda based off of a character I saw in an old Korean show set back pretty far. Idk if you will like him. If not, I'll probably end up doing something else with him... I dunno.
Anyways, he is the son of the emperor and a peasant who wasn't even a palace maid. The empress dowager refused to allow such a child to be brought into the palace, so she forces the peasant and bastard away. He grew up living outside the palace, but eventually found his way back in. He wants to claim the throne so he can have power, but his main goal is to keep his mother safe and spare her from the humiliation of being forced way.
Idk, whatever. Idk idk idk ~

[right [size30 [Abel "---- His Majesty Has Passed On,"]]]
So had come the call from the personal attendant, of The Previous Emperor- within moments gongs would resound throughout the palace and echo within the city as mourning garb had been donned. Like snow, the city had been draped in an endless sea of white and offerings were made to the late Emperor of the Chao Dynasty.
The Previous Emperor, now given the posthumous title of Emperor Gaoli, would be remembered as a virtuous and gentle soul that brought peace to the realm. He was favourable, fair, honorable and kind throughout his reign of several years. Unknown to the common people that underneath the spectacle of white that overlayed the city, turmoil brewed just beneath its surface.
---- THE SETTING;
The Emperor had passed under dubious circumstances, for he previously enjoyed good health - yet a month before his death, had fallen with an undiagnosed illness and no trace of an assassination attempt. His mind had fallen first, impacting his ability to preside over the court - he accused officials of corruption and excecuted them, burned historical temples, dug his ancestors from sacred ground and removed the heir-apparent to call for a new Crown Prince. Yet, fate decreed he would not see the rise of any of his sons to take the throne.
Emperor Gaoli had passed on, leaving behind a corrupted court with dangerous officials who sought to take advantage of the confusion, to higher their status and wealth. He left behind the common people, anxious for a new Emperor to lead them into peaceful times. He left allies-turned-enemies, whom he had offended in his final days of madness and threats of civil war. He left this, without a choice as to whom would succeed him.
--- THE STORY;
The Ambitious Minister would be lef
The Empress Dowager was
The Empress Dowager was left in control of the court, as the mother of Emperor Gaoli.
Before such sensitive and critical matters of state could be settled, The Final Emperor had passed away with only one name upon his lips, that of The 'Adopted' Son; the elder brother of his first and favoured concubine. Believing the Emperor's words a sign from Heaven, The Ambitious Minister sought to end the chaos which loomed overhead; claiming The Imperial Heir too inexperienced. His motives questioned by his fellow and now frantic Ministers brought divide amongst them, swaying between remaining loyal to the traditions of decades, or the final words of a dying man which may have been uttered, in madness.
In desperation to bide time, a summon was sent to The Eloquent Poet; a well-known strategist and loyalist to the Chaoxiang Dynasty and long time friend of The 'Adopted' Son, ushering them both into court to settle the chaos. With carelessness and no word upon the Emperor, the people became restless and afraid; even rising to small rebellions. Letters detailing of rumours had then passed into the hands of another, The Talented Strategist; a young man known for his virtues whom served as his villages' doctor, pleading him to overtake the throne, believing only he had earned the throne.
The Imperial Heir. The Ambitious Minister. The Talented Strategist. The Adopted Son. Four contenders warring for the throne.
Yet, would another attempt to use the chaos to usurp power for themselves? Shall these matters be settled before the people realize the true state of chaos that the realm tips upon? Shall the Chaoxiang Dynasty fall, and another take its place?
Only the one with the Jade Imperial Seal of the Realm, the support of the people, and an army equipped with brilliant strategists and talented generals would decide the fate.
