After a few moments spent looking into the mirror and trying to recompose himself Al emerged, back into he sunlight and back to the bench where the woman whom once was his sat patiently waiting for him to return. God how she looked like an angel the way the sunlight shined through her dark hair and landed on her perfect red lips. She was something of a dream.
After a few stumbling steps the well adjusted drunk was able to smooth and steady himself to where he seemed as a normal person, sober. [b "I apologize for keeping you waiting."] he said before taking his place beside her once more.
[b "Where were we?"] he looked into her eyes as though he had gotten lost in them. It was still unclear to him how so much time had passed and yet still, seeing her here, resurfaced so many feelings he had long ago pushed deep inside.
[b "It's still hard for me to believe that you are really here, both of you."] he said, looking to Ava who seemed to be enjoying herself. [b "After that day in the hospital I figured you had moved on, never wanting to see or hear from me again, I'm glad that wasn't the case."]
Reaching out he allowed his hand to push the hair that had fallen in her face and tuck it behind her ear, lingering there for a while before lightly pinching it between thumb and forefinger. [b "You really are something else do you know that?"]
[i At first was deeply angered. I cared nothing for this woman and here she was, claiming to carry my child. The entire thought of it drove me mad. But something inside of me changed when she was about 6 months along. Then she told me she was having a boy. I was thrilled. She was a drug addict though you see, so I moved her into my home to watch after her and our baby and something sparked. I would say it was love, but love doesn't drive your hand to a bottle.]
Chloe sat beside Alphonse.
Chloe sat beside him closely and bit her lower lip again and again out of a bit to the point she didn't know she was even doing it.
His words weren't so kind, nice but they were honest and of course sincere but it wasn't exactly what a Chloe wanted wanted to hear.
Chloe hated the fact he Al was with another woman, a drug addict who was suitable enough to stick himself inside and make a baby.
However who was she to talk?
Alphonse wasn't exactly hers anymore.
[b "So you're a dad for the second time. How exciting...."] Chloe spoke softly, giving off a smile while voices in her head screamed out to kiss him. Kiss him hard to show Al that she did miss him because she did, she did miss him one hell of alot.
The hand grip got tighter the moment Chloe nodded and agreed that she would attend dinner that evening with Ava and perhaps Eric. If he wanted to go with his so called family.
The words Alphonse spoke there after, made Chloe smile a little wider knowing that he was excited.
[i Wonderful, Henry will be ecstatic to have a friend to play with. And I'm sure it would do Catherine some good to have someone else to talk to than me.]
[b "Ah yes, Catherine. It should be fun. No doubt about it...."]
A fucking nightmare to stare upon and speak to the woman the love of her life was fucking.
However the moment there was silence and the two ex lovers stared into each others eyes, Chloe was just about to lean in and kiss the man she loved and who hopefully.loved her back but she was rejected with his words on excusing himself to use the rest room.
Nodding, Chloe lent back and turned her head, eyeing Ava still having a great time on the swings.
Ava. The love of her life.
[b "Ava. Slow on the swing please!"] she called out still leaning back on the seat waiting patiently for Alphonse to come back.
Truthfully, there was something about Al that was off and wasn't quite right. The words he spoke earlier somewhat made her think the same but pushed it too the side all because she wanted to enjoy the time she was having.
[i "I want you Al. I need you like I need the air to breathe. How could you form another family without me? I guess that isn't that fair to say...look what I did to you. How could I? You are the love of my life and that will..never...ever change. I love you Al."]
Those words haunted her mind.
Those words she wanted to speak but didn't all because of fear and rejection.
[+crimson "Life did have another plan. It was only a one night stand, was it? You conceived a baby from It. Must of been good for you."]
[b "Not at first."] he admitted, [b "At first was deeply angered. I would say it was love, but love doesn't drive your hand to a bottle."] He hoped she would not entirely understand what he had meant by that. She was the last person in the world he wanted to know about his recent drinking addiction.
As soon as the words came to him, that flask began to burn a hole into his flesh.
[+crimson "I would love too. We would love too, Al. What an nice offer..."]
Alphonse was thrilled, he hand around hers tightened slightly, [b "Wonderful, Henry will be estatic to have a friend to play with. And I'm sure it would do Catherine some good to have someone else to talk to than me."]
Truthfully, the two rarely talked. They were either fighting, fucking or ignoring one another. Not to mention the rage Alphonse took out on her often. But that was something he would never admit.
[+crimson "It's good to see you, Al..."]
[b "I wouldn't say that just yet."] he said, releasing his hand and standing. [b "I will be right back, I need to use the restroom."]
Without waiting for reply Capone darted into the concrete building that had been nearest him and finished what was left in his flask. As the burning traveled down inside of him he felt his body relax. [b "That was what I really needed."] he said, leaning against one of the walls while his head began to change.
It was true.
The Alphonse gene ran deep and incredibly strong however deep down, Chloe wished Ava didn't have that gene as every time the little girl showed her stubbornness, Alphonse came to mind and it broke her heart all over again.
What a life it had been.
Never in a million years, singing in that nightclub on a Tuesday night did she think she would find the one she would spend the rest of her life with...well somewhat of a life.
I love you Alphonse.
I love you, she wanted to scream out from the top of her lungs but held it all on the inside because she couldn't ruin something good for Alphonse.
He was happy.
He was finally a little happy now with a baby and a female living in a house that he built all because of him knowing he was going to be a father.
Alphonse already was.
[i "No, our house is and will forever be our house Chloe, this is a different house, I had it built when I found out I was to father a son. Catherine and I were never to be much more than a one time thing. But I guess this life had another plan."]
[b "Life did have another plan. It was only a one night stand, was it? You conceived a baby from It. Must of been good for you."] Chloe spoke.
It was a one night for them too where she became pregnant.
Chloe lost the baby.
The worst day of her life.
Alphonse continue to speak on how much she and Ava meant to him and this caused Chloe to look down and nod but became heart broken yet again.
This wasn't how it was supposed to be.
Would it ever be the same again?
However it was the moment that Alphonse grabbed her hand THAT Chloe looked.at him with her magnificent eyes and just stared, listening.
[b "I would love too. We would love too, Al. What an nice offer..."] she muttered softly, biting her lower lip once more knowing her hand was embracing his own as they both sat there upon the chair.
Chloe was longing for a kiss.
Chloe was longing for his touch again and again and it broke her.
The urge became to much.
[b "It's good to see you, Al..."]
Alphonse looked towards Ava as well, wondering just what type of girl she had grown to be. He began to think of all the time that he had lost in her life, she did not know him, her father. The thought of this gave him a deep pain in his heart, one that he wished greatly he could fill with another swig from his flask.
[+crimson "Ava had a growth spurt. I gave a feeling she will as tall as her father. She already has your stubbornness. Today she didn't want to get dressed. Took me an hour to get socks onto her feet..."]
The thought of his daughter being as he was brought a smile to his face, [b "Well the Capone gene does run deep and strong."] He looked to her with those eyes, those eyes he had given her so many years ago when they first met at the nightclub she was singing at. It felt like an entire lifetime since then, and in ways, it had been.
[+crimson "She lives with you? In our house?...I mean.....your house?.."] It would have been easy for Al to pretend that he hadn't heard her slip up, but then again, where was the fun in that?
[b "No, our house is and will forever be our house Chloe, this is a different house, I had it built when I found out I was to father a son. Catherine and I were never to be much more than a one time thing. But I guess this life had another plan."]
There was that look, the moment Al had told her that he was no longer in the same business she gave him that look. He knew her all too well and that look, was one of complete and utter betrayal.
[+crimson "Um well..I am a receptionist at a law firm, believe it or not. Shine Lawyers. Its good work, gets me out of the house while Ava is at school. Keeps my mind busy..." ]
[b "I didn't have the option back then Chloe, or I would have left in a heartbeat. You and Ava, you meant the world to me, you still do."] He wasn't sure why he felt the need to explain himself, but all the same he had.
[+crimson "I don't know. We...are still married but we hardly talk anymore. Its like there is nothing left to talk about. Were in it for Ava. Its a marriage, that just how it is. I guess the loss of our child really hit him hard, just like it did me...."]
Capone's eyebrows pulled together in sorrow when hearing that she had lost a child, the child she had been carrying the night that Alphonse stormed to Eric's home only to lose what he had been fighting for. The irony in the situation was all to bitter. [b "I'm sorry to hear that, I do hope that life turns around for you."]
He would be lying if he said that a apart of him wasn't happy that her life with Eric had been less than magical. Of course he wanted nothing but happiness for her, but not in her life with that man.
[+crimson "Im no longer happy in my marriage, but I m glad to see you are in life. I'd like to meet Henry..."]
[b "I'd enjoy that, I'd enjoy that very much."] suddenly an idea hit him like a ton of bricks, he turned his body towards her with a smile and grabbed her hand softly. [b "Join me for dinner, tonight. You can bring Ava and Eric if you'd like to. You can see the house, meet Henry and Catherine. What do you day?"] there were those eyes once more.
[i "I really can't believe how much she has grown, and how beautiful she had become. She looked just like her mother."]
Chloe gave off a smile as she continued to stand in front of the coffee cart, ears perking up and listened to Alphonse's words carefully about their daughter having grown as much as she did in the last three years they were apart - again.
It was true.
Although Ava was 6 ears old, she was rather tall for her age, smart - talented and ever so witty when it came to Maths but when it came to her attitude from time to time, it wasn't so pleasant.
[b "Ava had a growth spurt. I gave a feeling she will as tall as her father. She already has your stubbornness. Today she didn't want to get dressed. Took me an hour to get socks onto her feet..."] Chloe spoke out, turning her head back to the man behind the cart and reached out, giving him a smile and a quick word of thank you before stepping away with Alphonse towards a seat.
Sitting down slowly, Chloe stared ahead at Ava who was having a great time on the swings and happened to of made a new friend but it was asking Al whether or not he was married was what made the woman turn her back to the man who had her heart.
[i "Christ no! I told you Chloe, you are the only woman that I will ever marry."]
[b "You did indeed tell me that.."] Chloe spoke with a nod but it all stopped the moment she heard Alphonse speak about a son.
A boy that was brought out into the world by a woman he had fucked and willingly gave her.
[b "A...A son?..."]
[i "He'll be coming on two not too much longer now, and he's smart, real smart, just like his mother."]
What the fresh hell?
Chloe had to breathe out as hearing this kind of made her just a little angry on the inside but who was she to act in such a way.
She was the one that told Alphonse to leave.
What, did she actually expect that he would stick around for her and not fuck another woman?
[b "Thats wonderful, Al. Congratulations..."]
[i "We uh, we live together. In my home."]
[b "She lives with you? In our house?...I mean.....your house?.."] Chloe spoke out but corrected quick still not having a drink of her coffee as of yet.
[i "I became a lawyer too. With Henry being around I decided I should chose a profession with a little more... stability. The money isn't what it was, but it still keeps us in a nice home with nice things to fill it with. What about you, what has Chloe Darling been up to?"]
Alphonse changed for another woman.
After Chloe had asked him to try and forget about his old life, having refused, it was another woman and a little boy to make him change his mind on everything.
What the fuck?
The way Chloe looked at Alphonse was, somewhat hurtful, betrayed yet...she had to be happy for him as this was his life now and she was the one that gave it to him.
[b "Um well..I am a receptionist at a law firm, believe it or not. Shine Lawyers. Its good work, gets me out of the house while Ava is at school. Keeps my mind busy..."] she muttered, bringing the coffee cup to her lips and drank from it, taking a look at Ava who was having fun with her new friend upon the swings.
[i "And Eric, hows he?"]
[b "I dont know. We...are still married but we hardly talk anymore. Its like there is nothing left to talk about. Were in it for Ava. Its a marriage, that just how it is. I guess the loss of our child really hit him hard, just like it did me...."]
There it was.
Truth was, Chloe found out she was pregnant 3 weeks after the accident.
It was too early to loose it when the accident happened but, the baby was Alphonse's. A little boy. A little boy she lost due to falling down the stairs by accident, in her home as Chloe lost balance.
Alphonse and Chloe conceived a baby that night she ran to him to give him back the money of charity.
He didn't have to know.
[b "Im no longer happy in my marriage, but I m glad to see you are in life. I'd like to meet Henry..."]
Chloe looked at him as though she was deeply lost and confused. There was no hiding the fact that there was something truly off about the man that had once been so cool. confident and collected.
[+crimson "I was just about to grab a coffee at the park so Ava can play. Would you like to join me?..."]
But then he captivated her.
It was a gesture so simple.
Something so small.
His eyes became glued to her lips as she did the one thing that would forever drive him wild, bit her bottom lip. [b "Glad to see somethings never change"] he teased, before bending down to pick up the toy he had earlier dropped. [b "I would love to grab some coffee with you and Ava."] his eyes landing on his daughter, his own flesh and blood. The child he left behind three years ago. Seeing her now returned the smile to his face.
The three made their way towards the front of the store with their groceries, [b "Somethings never change with me as well."] he smiled before paying for not only his milk and red toy, but her basket of food items as well. [b "Try not to make too much of a scene."] he laughed, remembering back to three years ago when she had thrown his money in his face, refusing to accept it.
The moment they made their way to the park Ava tore away from her mother towards the swings, [b "I really can't believe how much she has grown, and how beautiful she had become. She looked just like her mother."] he turned to her with a smile.
Ordering their coffee's from the stand it was there that Chloe asked Alphonse the one question he had hoped she wouldn't. It was a question that he knew would eventually pass her lips, but even though she had told him to leave three years ago, the thought of telling her about Henry and Catherine still gave him a feeling of anxiety.
[+crimson "Are you married? ..."] she asked.
That was the easy question. [b "Christ no! I told you Chloe, you are the only woman that I will ever marry."]
Answering the question he made it sound as though their life as husband and wife was something that was still to be. Like no amount of time or distance had changed that. [b "I do have a son though."] he looked down at his cup before looking back at her.
[b "He'll be coming on two not too much longer now, and he's smart, real smart, just like his mother."] Just like that the light that had filled his eyes when talking about Henry faded the moment he spoke of the boys mother. [b "We uh, we live together. In my home."] he looked at his cup once more. [b "She wants to get married, but it just isn't right ya know?"] Quickly he changed the subject, [b "I became a lawyer too. With Henry being around I decided I should chose a profession with a little more... stability. The money isn't what it was, but it still keeps us in a nice home with nice things to fill it with. What about you, what has Chloe Darling been up to?"]
Even after all these years, he still refused to call her Mrs. Harrison. Like if he refused to say it, it would make it untrue. [b "And Eric, hows he?"] There was still a tension whenever he spoke the man's name.
There was something different about Al.
There was something different that she couldn't put her finger on it, and that annoyed Chloe something shocking.
Yes, he looked older.
Yes, he looked like he had been to war and back but that was only because of her choice those three years ago to let him go, cut him loose so she could try and be with a man who turned out to be, not exactly her future.
This, whole rugged - older look was working for the man who came into her dreams and spoke those heavenly words, whispering them in her ear as she slept. Fuck. Chloe missed Alphonse unconditionally.
However the moment Chloe made her voice known and spoke out, Al just continued to look at the female and didnt utter a single thing, which was just as well as he was in shock just like her but she had to break the ice somehow.
[i "She's gotten so big... I mean... She's nearly full grown."] Alphonse finally muttered, reaching out and gently caressed his daughters hair, Ava giving off a smile then clutched onto her mother tighter like a lost little lamb. Chloe gave off a smile and tilted her head down and stared upon the little girl who still couldnt wipe the smile from her face.
[b "She has grown, but her attitude hasnt. It isnt so good today..."] Chloe muttered before tilting her head back up and continue to glance at Alphonse while she placed a hand on the back of her daughters head, rubbing slowly to console.
[i "I'm well, and thank you, I see you haven't aged a day Chloe."]
[b "Oh, now your just being modest. Im getting older, dont you worry. Im three years older....somewhat wiser..."]
The look upon his face was one that would stick by her forever more.
Al's eyes were exactly the same, dreamy and handsome - eyes she could lose herself in and truthfully, she was starting too.
[i "Tell me, am I dreaming? Are you really there?"]
[b "Yes. Are you feeling okay?..."]
As spoke those words, her eyes caught up with another person, a stranger in the store and listened to Al has he requested a slap across the face.
Turning her head back, eyes continued to stare upon the man she loved and brought a hand to her mouth in shock the moment a hand swiped and landed upon the face of the man who requested it.
[i "I guess this is not a dream. Come, walk with me. I don't want you to go just yet."]
[b "I was just about to grab a coffee at the park so Ava can play. Would you like to join me?..."] Chloe asked, biting her lower lip out of habit but also knew that Alphonse never was able to resist himself when she did this.
Grabbing the groceries that were needed, Chloe, Alphonse and Ava did what they had to do in order to walk out of the store right, paying for the things they had chosen and wandered down the street towards the park, Chloe finally letting go of Ava's hand and the little girl ran towards the swings and sat down upon it.
[b "Stay where I can see you, please!..."] Chloe called out and Ava smiled in the distance.
[+red "Okay mumma!..."]
Standing by the coffee cart, Chloe gave off a smile, turning around towards Alphonse and her heart skipped a beat, wanting to wrap her arms around him and kiss his lips that she had longed to kiss for those three long years.
[b "So. Three years. What has happened for you? ..."] Chloe spoke out, before ordering the hot drink she wanted before reaching in her purse, paying.
She didn't know about his home life with another woman.
She didn't know about the fact that he fucked the woman with so much passion that a baby was conceived, truthfully, the moment Chloe would find out, her heart cried just a little.
[b "Are you married? ..."]
Capone stood there in utter disbelief as she spoke his name the way only she could. [+crimson "Oh my god, Alphonse. Long time no see... How are you?...."] [i Nothing.]
I mean what could he say, his life has been a meaningless nothing without her beside him.
[+crimson "You look...well, you look good..."]
Maybe it was the alcohol that had still been in his system, or maybe it was the mere presence of her, but without a word Alphonse, with eyebrows pulled together and head tilted to the side reached out to caress one of Ava's pigtails. [b "She's gotten so big... I mean... She's nearly full grown."]
Had time really passed him by that quickly?
Realizing how awkward he must have looked he snapped to, [b "I'm well, and thank you, I see you haven't aged a day Chloe."] he chocked when saying her name. The word still brought him so much pain. It was a name he had not spoken in quite some time.
His eyes kept frantically searching hers as though he was still in complete and utter disbelief that she was even there. [b "Tell me, am I dreaming? Are you really there?"]
It was then that a man had passed them, stopped by a grab of the arm by Al, [b "Do me a favor sir, slap me."]
Confused Capone urged the man, who, with a shrug, complied.
[b "I guess this is not a dream. Come, walk with me. I don't want you to go just yet."]
[i “It's not that kind of love. It's the real kind. The unconditional kind. The non-judgmental kind. Not the physical kind. I love you as a fellow soul who inhabits this earth. I love you as a fellow mortal. I love you because I finally understand what made you the way you are. And if I could change it, I would. But I can't—so I choose to love you instead. And my hope is that my acceptance of you will spur you to do something good too, but if not—" I shrug. "At least I can say I tried.”]
That was it.
Chloe spoke her last words, her peace and witnessed Alphonse walking out of the room and out of her life good this time.
There was no turning back.
The only thing to do now was go forward and forward she was, but it hurt like hell.
However the moment Alphonse walked out, Eric and Ava wandered back in only to console the woman in the hospital bed, broken and painfully upset with a broken heart and it was from that moment on that Eric knew there life together would never be the same.
It would never be - all because of Alphonse, but they could try.
Three years had passed and the rehab for Chloe was vigorous but it was only several months and hard work that finally made her out to be what she was today.
It was 1947.
Ava was now 6 years old, Eric and Chloe were still together, hanging by a thread and quite frankly were no longer in love but strayed in the relationship for Ava to be happy. The parents wanted nothing more than for that smile to be on Ava's gorgeous little face, even if it meant for the two to be miserable.
Another three years had passed and Chloe was strong and quite capable of looking after a 6 year old. However it was on that particular Thursday morning that Ava decided to be a major pain the ass ever since the moment she woke up from her slumber.
[b "Ava please. Stop. Please stop for mummy...."] Chloe begged the little girl who refused to get dressed. Ava refused to put on the clothes instead of acting like a drama Queen in a huff but finally calmed herself the moment Chloe threatened for Eric to give her a smack on the ass.
[+red "I dont want to get dressed!"]
[b "You are getting dressed, young lady. If you dont, Daddy will give you a smacked bottom when he gets home. Which means you will stay home and no shopping for you. I mean it..."] Chloe muttered, reaching out, grabbing Ava by the wrist and pulled her in closer and started to dress her daughter.
A cute little white dress with a light coffee colored jacket. Long hair in pig tail braids along with a hat upon her head as it was cold outside that time of year.
Chloe wore all white.
A cashmere jacket wrapped around her body, one that she held onto from all those years ago. Hair remained down in loose curls with her signature red lips. Thirty minutes later all organized, it wasnt long until the mother and daughter got into a cab that waited and traveled towards the grocery store that waited.
It was reasonably sized.
It had everything Chloe needed and wanted and ...yet the one thing she truly did wasn't around because she had told him to go, leave.
Yet she still held onto the ring, that had to be what angered Eric so much that Chloe actually held onto the piece of jewelry that made her remember.
[b "Keep the change..."] Chloe spoke out, grabbing Ava by the hand and pulled her out of the car slowly before stepping inside of the building that people hustled and bustled in looking for the things that kept them alive of cured the cravings.
Ava ran inside, refusing to behave which just made Chloe stress out even more.
[b "Ava. Stop..."] she called out and grabbed her daughter by the hand and forced her close, almost having it up to here with her attitude this morning but a 6 year old little girl wanted to explore and she did the moment Chloe let go to grab a certain bread off the shelf and into the basket.
[b "Ava. Ava!..."] Chloe called out and chased after the little girl who was just about to make her mother cry from anger until finally, in an aisle, Ava was on the floor in front of a man.
[b "Ava you scared me don't you ever do that to me again do you hear?"]
[+red Im sorry mumma. I fell over.... I fell over...."] Ava started to cry, lifting herself up from the ground and clung onto Chloe knowing she was in big big trouble.
[b "I could of lost you. Dont do that again....]" she spoke before tilting her head up. [b "Im sor- ...Alphonse...."]
What the fuck was this?
[b "Oh my god, Alphonse. Long time no see... How are you?...."]
Nice Chloe. Nice....
Giving off a smile, there was her heart - fluttering away into the heavens while her knees started to buckle.
[b "You look...well, you look good..."]
Upon leaving Chloe that day at the hospital, Alphonse would never again be the same man he was. Instead he turned into a dark, heartless man, wandering the streets and unleashing his fury on anyone that stood in his way. He had become a wrecking ball of a man, leaving paths of destruction behind his every step.
It had been three years since he walked from her. Three years since he had been able to look at himself in a mirror without smashing it into pieces. The man he was had been unrecognizable to the man he once was. It didn't take long before everyone he once knew left him for fear of their own lives.
[+hotpink "Darling come to bed will you?"] Catherine begged, standing in the doorway of his office wearing nothing but a white see-through robe. [+hotpink "The baby is asleep and you've barely touched me all week."]
Glazed eyes turned their attention on the woman who began to seductively swing the tie of her robe in a circle and pout. [b "Can't you see that I'm working here? What did I tell you about disturbing me when I'm busy?"] he hollered, throwing the first book he could find at her but missing and hitting the wall instead.
[+hotpink "You're always busy Alphonse! And you never have time for me or Henry anymore!"] just then a cry could be heard. [+hotpink "Great, you woke up the baby!"]
As the woman stormed away, leaving him to the dimly lit darkness he opened the top drawer, grabbing the flash and taking a long swig from it. Truth was, this was something he often found himself doing nowadays, drinking in secret. He wasn't sure why, it wasn't like anyone dare try and stop him. He was a man who could do as he pleased without any remorse or punishment. He was free to live the way he wanted. Well, almost.
Taking another swig Capone was immediately distraught at reaching the last drops, [b "FUCK!"] he screamed, throwing the container at a picture hanging on the far wall, causing it to drop and shatter against the wood.
[+hotpink "GOD DAMN IT AL! I just got him to fall back asleep you asshole!"] Catherine yelled over the sounds of a screaming Henry.
The way she sounded caused the drunk to laugh.
Like the whole ordeal had been funny at all.
Alphonse awoke sprawled out on the couch, Henry eating cereal on the coffee table beside him. He didn't remember how he had gotten there but from the size of the headache he had he couldn't say he was surprised.
[+hotpink "We're out of milk."]
[+hotpink "Milk Al, we're out of milk. How am I going to make Henry chocolate milk if I don't have any milk?"]
[b "Alright, alright woman. There is no reason to be screaming."] he said, waving his arms at her as he attempted to sit up.
[+hotpink "I''m not screaming, but maybe you would know that if you weren't so hungover."] Crossing her arms over her chest the sound of her foot tapping on the floor rang in his head.
[b "You're doing it again."]
[+hotpink "Doing what? I'm not doing anything."]
[b "That tapping, with your foot. Stop doing that."] he said, covering his ears with his hands, Henry copying him as he did with a smile on his face. [b "That's right Henry, tell mommy to stop it."]
[+teal "Stop it mommy! Stop it mommy!"] he mimicked.
[+hotpink "Oh, that's real nice Al."] she said, none to impressed as she grabbed Henry, [+hotpink "Just go get some fucking milk Al, and take a fucking shower, you wreak of alcohol."]
[+teal "You wreak daddy!"]
Capone was happy to see that the market wasn't all that full, it wasn't like he was really in the mood to be around people. Making his way to the dairy aisle he began to search the area before taking out his trusty flask and taking another long, sweet taste of the nectar inside. [b "Now that's one way to cure a hangover."] he said as his headache slowly began to subside.
After grabbing one of the glass bottles he decided he would pick up something extra special for Henry in the toy aisle. It was something he was always doing. So much so that the first thing Henry would day when he got home was [i toy.]
Picking out one of the little red racing cars it was then that Alphonse was hit in the legs from behind. Turning he was face to face with a face he hadn't seen in years, [b "Ava?'] he asked, the car dropping from his hand and landing on the tile.
Bewildered the young girl stared at him in curiosity before a woman came running. [+crimson "Ava you scared me don't you ever do that to me again do you hear?"] He watched the dark haired woman scoop up the girl and hold her tight in her arms while he stood there in shock, unable to move or say a word.
Fingers clutched the sweetest price of jewelery to of never graced her skin.
Diamonds were wonderful that emerald was..one gem that wasn't acknowledged enough and from It being the man she loved was even better but hurt more because she essential giving it back.
Alphonse didn't want it back.
Alphonse didn't reach out for it nor did he even try to retrieve it out from Chloes hand but just remained to stand tall, handsome and poised trying to hold in the emotion just like her.
Words escaped his lips.
Words that just made Chloe love him even more to the point she had to close her eyes so the pools that were flooding in her hues could be released, streaming down her cheeks like a river.
[b "Your words are wonderful. This is so hard for me, so hard of me to say and do as I don't want too but..I have too..."] she spoke, giving out little sniffles before opening her eyes once more watching and baring witness of Alphonse stepping g in closer to the bed with a hand out stretched.
There is was.
There was his touch against the side of her face, caressing her skin once again and perhaps for the last time.
[b "Im sorry...."]
Bringing her hand back to her lap, Chloe grasped the ring and clutched it tight before breathing out.
Then came the hurt, then came the moment that Chloe became cold again with Alphonse stepping away and finally walked out the door and vanished from her sight.
Tilting down her head, it was there she let all of it go and cried her little broken heart out.
She wanted to get out of the bed and run to him. Hug Alphonse tight and kiss him but with her bones being broken...it was not possible.
Standing there Alphonse's heart began to break, it began to break because he knew that he was losing one of the few things in this life he might actually die without.
Yet no words could escape from his lips.
There was nothing he could say that could change what was happening.
As she held out the ring he had given to her a tear fell from his eye, she was letting go. [b "There is only one woman whom will ever have the right to wear that ring, shall she chose to or not. I can not take that back Chloe, it would only tear me to pieces to have it in my possession."]
But he was torn to pieces.
He was torn to pieces by the love he once had, the love that before his very eyes he was losing. He was broken, shattered, defeated. It was a feeling he had never before felt. The feeling burned him from the inside out, it felt as though his skin was melting and he soon would become a pile of nothing before her.
Taking one last long look at the woman who would forever carry his heart with her his hand unwillingly reached out a touch her delicate features. The way she felt soft beneath his hardened hand only made it all the more difficult to leave.
He didn't want to.
He wanted to pick her up in her arms and run her off into the night.
Finally, reluctantly with drawing his touch, Alphonse Capone slowly scampered out of the room, leaving behind him his heart. Knowing that what lie ahead of him would never feel the gap that would forever be where his heart once was.
Heartbreak was one emotion that sucked on all levels.
Chloe knew what it was to feel extreme guilt and somewhat remorse but when it came to heartbreak, it was the two emotions put together ten fold.
However the difference between the heartbreak of losing a partner she loved compares to the loss of a child was catastrophic and she hoped, now being a mum she would never go through that.
No parent should outlive their child.
There was love that filled the hospital room the moment Eric and Ava left only for her heart to belong to the daughter and Alphonse. With Eric - there was love but it now became clear as platonic. Chloe didn't love Eric the way she thought she did, it was crystal clear the moment Alphonse came back.
As her husband left the room with Ava in his arms, it was the moment that Alphonse stepped in closer towards the bed and spoke his peace and spoke his mind which was perfectly fine. He was entitled. He was free to do whatever it was he wanted however his words were venom and ever so true.
[b "How can I not look at you when you are looking at me the way I hoped you never would? I shed those tears because deep down, I want you to be happy and me being in this predicament, I can see you are not happy and I cannot change that."] Chloe spoke softly, hands upon the bed and slowly started up lift herself up so her back was in perfectly alignment with the pillow. [b "I never said ..I didn't love you. I do love you and that will never change. I love more than I love the air to breathe but I only wanted to marry once. That was my one rule. I wanted to marry you, but you left me to wallow in grief...."]
Tilting her head down, Chloe tried ever so hard to contain herself from crying harder as her heart continued to crack, break and shatter.
Eyes upon her left hand ring finger, her other limb joined and digits slowly started to pull the exquisite emerald ring from her finger.
[b "Im afraid of you, Alphonse. I am afraid you will leave again and never come back. I'm scared that you will die infront of my eyes because of the jobs you live for. I'm scared you will leave and Ava having to feel what I do but for her it'll be worse as you are her blood...her father."]
Tilting her head up, eye stared upon the greatest love of her life knowing she had to let him go.
Reaching out, Chloe continued to stare as her fingers held the ring signaling Alphonse to take it.
[b "This ring belongs on another woman's finger. Not mine. I have to let you go..."]
Hearing his name on her tongue touched a place in his heart that had not been touched in a very long time. The way her mouth made it sound, it was the way he wanted to hear it for the rest of his life. But that could not be. He could never belong to the woman who already had so much love for another person. Seeing her with Eric, he finally knew that to be so.
He did not want to look at her, he didn't want to see the way her skin reflected the light or the way her eyes sparkled. He did not want to see her stands of hair, in the delicate mess that they were or the tears he could hear in her voice. He didn't want to see the woman he loved and know it may be the very last time he would. But still, he turned.
[+crimson "Thank you..."]
[i Thank you....] That was what he got, a thank you. A thank you for what? It was because of his own greed that she was laying there in the first place. It was because of his hunger for revenge that she was in the arms of another man. Everything that had gone wrong in their life together was by fault of his own.
[+blue "You both need to say goodbye right. I'll let you talk...."] [i You'd like that wouldn't you, home wrecker.]
[+crimson "He is my husband, Al...."] she spoke as Eric left with Ava in his arms.
He knew this, he knew this more than he wanted to know. But it still did not stop the tears that fell from her eyes. It did not stop the pain that he knew she felt in her heart. In fact, what had Eric done for her at all?
[+crimson "This ring doesn't belong to me. Not anymore..."]
There it was
With only a few short words she had taken his heart and ripped it from his chest. [b "If that is true, then why do you shed those tears? If that is true than why is it that you can't go longer than a moment without glancing in my direction. If you no longer love me"] he walked until he was only a foot away from where she lay, [b "If you truly do not love me, then I will leave. I will leave and you will never have to hear or see me again."]
